Thank you ladies.
Aida - I've never paid much attention to accessories, so we'll see if they truly do provide enough variety. It'll be a bit of an experiment. I can understand how, for you, using just accessories for variety would not provide enough impact to your bold style.
Joy - I could see myself just buying things to check an item off my list, so thanks for the reminder that I should buy only scarves that I love.
Brooklyn - I like hearing about other people's style plans too, which I why I thought it wouldn't be too self-indulgent to post mine.
Alasse, Shevia, Maneera, Cerinda, and SF: Thank you, and SF, nice Levis!
Mochi - glad I could help you. I always find other people's 'style' and 'epiphany' posts very educational too.

Reading all these well-articulated analyses is so educational for me. It can be so daunting and hard to figure out what is wrong, the solution and/or direction...it is not hard and fast science, but so intuitive so much of the time. You've nailed it here. I'm still taking notes to refine my own approach.

Your plan is well thought out. Thanks for the mention. About scarves...a variety of fabrics, shapes and sizes is good. Only buy what you really love. Otherwise it will be an orphan. I like your idea of a touch of boho for summer.

I enjoyed reading your post. I love hearing other people's style plans. From your Wiws, I think your wardrobe is already pretty cohesive. I like the idea of varying it up with accessories. I love accessories. I have only recently come to appreciate how much a simple thing like changing your handbag or jewellery can change your look and provide that variety we tend to crave. Look forward to hearing and seeing more

Sounds like a good plan, Smittie. I always enjoy your WIWs and think that you own your style ---- it's natural, fuss-free and quite effortless. You wear jeans very very well, and it's a good thing that you don't need a lot of varied silhouettes to feel happy with your style - I like the idea of skinnies with oversized sweaters and pretty accessories.

Jenn, you're welcome. Hopefully I'll get to see some cognac pieces from you this summer....i might get a sun hat of some sort --inspired by you.

Kerlyn, it sounds like you and I have a bit of the same plan going into the summer. I think it'll be great fun to buy some jewelry. It's been a neglected item in my wardrobe for so long. I love the idea of grey converse too. I think they'd look great with light denim, as you mention. Decisions, decisions...

Rachy, thanks. I think your plan of "Is it angry enough?" (read that on another thread and laughed) is a good starting point.

Beth Ann, thanks. I am psyched about a local shop that I found that sells all kinds of neat things. It certainly does feel like I'm more connected. It's interesting how "being connected" makes you feel good.

Sounds like a great plan! I think many of us have a slightly different style persona in summer versus winter; practically the challenges are so different, and of course the types of activities we do in summer often can range to the more extreme on that end.

GREAT for you to know that you prefer the change-up to come from accessories; I am the opposite and it's taken me a long time to realize and accept that. Shoes though, shoes are always important! I think the Chucks will work just fine with your desired summer style (will work for "urban" nicely, too). I got these chambray Vans last summer which I wore a lot more than expected; they were a particularly great pairing with my linens.

And definitely work on a little denim collection if that is the main type of bottoms you wear! Also a great place (along with footwear) to get your trendy fix in.

How wise to know that you have two different style personas, according to the season! That will save you a lot of frustration, and make wardrobe building so much easier. I think that building a style around accessories give you a lot of freedom to express your own creativity, and will keep your closet manageable. And making your choices locally gives you unique pieces, along with a great connection to your community. A win all around!

I hope we get to see some of your looks!

Really well articulated! I relate to the high happiness factor with accessories, although mine tends to be mostly jewelry (OK, and increasingly shoes, mainly boots...ahem). I too am finding denim to be a constant player in my wardrobe. I've become more accepting of that fact, and have realized that I can add a boho touch even to a simple t-shirt and jeans outfit. And I really do think Converse works great with a boho style. Jenn is a testament to that! I also love my gray converse, and I tend to wear them mostly with faded bootcuts for some reason. Add a cotton blouse or slouchy T-shirt and some cool boho jewelry, and that's a pretty common uniform for me.

Agreeing with Sally that your natural beauty really lends itself to this style. Best of luck!

Now if I could just articulate my own style goals so well!

Smittie - my summer wardrobe is a great size, I have lots of options and I like pretty much all of them.

My winter wardrobe is smaller, and I don't like it as much. I could look at scarves as a way to add variety - I OD'ed on them a few years back and have added very few over the last two seasons. Might be a way to make things more interesting.

Just reading this made me super-excited for you and your style! I like how you've separated out your summer and winter dressing styles into two different monikers. I think a lot of us (especially those of us with kids, or who are otherwise beholden to school schedules) live different lifestyles and have different expectations of our wardrobes in the summer than in the winter, so that makes perfect sense.

It also especially struck me that you specifically mentioned denim and leather. When I originally put together my color palette last fall, I added a navy blue to represent denim and a orangey-brown shade to represent leather. Then, I went off and bought wardrobe items in navy and rust, straying from the original concept. I think I really need to think of denim and leather themselves being wardrobe components, so thank you for reminding me of that!

Thanks Lisap, Kiwigal, and Angie.

lisap, yes, I think I might be a uniform dresser after all, and a few smaller touches in accessories will make me happy. I don't actually need to look that different day to day. I just want to look complete, and also be a little trendy.

Sally, thank you for saying I have a happy style! It's interesting that people's physical appearance does affect the style of clothing they can wear. I find it actually a little hard to accept this notion, because you want to be able to say, 'wear what what's suitable to your personality'. Your summer style suits you very well.

Thanks Smittie for sharing. I always like your posts and WIW because you have such a stunning, happy style.

I do think your plan is sensible given your climate and lifestyle. And you look terrific in jeans- straights, cropped, skinny and I think you could also wear flares very well. I also think fashionable and fun footwear is a huge contributor to style - so I think you are on the right track.

I do agree that appearance does factor into style - and your natural beauty leads you to a natural type look - I think you could skew boho or sporty easily - a more dramatic look is probably harder to pull off. I always find it harder to wear super romantic looks - I just feel too tall and overblown, blowsy in them.....but I love them on other people.

With respect to the sneakers, I don't think you can go wrong with Converse. I have the standard white low Chuck Taylors and wear them every year. I do wish I had leather ones at the moment, for waterproof reasons. Mine are not so crisp now so they get worn for strictly very casual outings.

Good luck

This was a well-done and nicely-articulated post - like reading it. I don't have much to say about the clothing side of things, except to agree wholeheartedly with you on the higher happiness factor coming from scarves, jewellery, bags and other accessories. That's been my experience this past year too.

Btw - I do like the term: Urban Oversize. That makes a lot of sense given what you've described, and it should be fairly easy to work within that parameter.

I just thought I'd recap some of the things I've learned about my style and my personality, since joining YLF last summer. I'm writing this down because I find it helps me crystallize my thoughts, and forces some discipline when shopping. It's a long post, so skip to the bolded items for the cliffs-notes version.

Before I begin, I wanted to thank you to all of you who have responded to my WIWs and style-related questions over the past year. Your feedback has really helped me hone in on where I want to go in 2016.

What happened in 2015?

2015 was a good year for experimentation. I tried a whole bunch of different silhouettes, and fabrics. I think my main successes were my midi dress, striped dress, and distressed denim experiments. My main fails were t-shirts (again!), shoes (patent leather is not 'me' in the summer), the use of black in the summer (again, just not me), and a beige scarf (the wrong colour).

2015 winter was a bit of a fail. I had plans to buy a number of dresses, but this didn't materialize due to lack of interest in winter dressing.

The plan for 2016:

2016 will be less about silhouettes, and more about accessories!

1. My 2016 summer moniker is "Simple boho". Basically, it's boho with less detailing. I want to wear distressed leathers, mostly cotton or linen clothing, and boho jewelry. No blazers this year White, watery blues, denim blues, heather greys, and cognac leathers will be the backdrop. I find that my appearance lends itself to this type of dressing...Kind of the same way Alasse's look lends itself to her more romantic looks.

2. My 2016 moniker will likely be "urban oversized". This is a terrible-sounding moniker. "Urban" because I'm in the city all winter, and I want to feel modern on the streets (I guess this affects mostly outerwear). "oversized" because I want to stick to a uniform of

interesting skinny jeans and chunky sweaters. Footwear is irrelevant as i only wear winter boots outside and ballet flats at the office.

3. My favourite outfits still involve jeans, despite lots of experimenting with different things. I was disappointed in myself for reverting back to the old standby, but based on some feedback from this forum, I'm going to try and think of jeans as a 'framework' within which there are tons of possibilities. I'm going to focus on getting a diverse set of jeans.

4. Although I've had zero success so far, I'm going to keep trying to find an oversized white dress shirt.

5. It's all about scarves, jewelry, bags, and shoes. I realize that these things provide significantly higher happiness than clothes these days. Is that bad? Have I given up? Anybody in the same boat?

I'm going to follow Joy's lead, I'll use scarves and jewelry as the color in an all-neutral outfit.

6. Following up on 5, I want to purchase all locally-made jewelry, since it just seems a little nicer to me, and there's a high happiness factor.

7. My HEWI is a pair of sneakers to wear to the park, sitting in stands, or casual bike rides. I'm not sure what to get. Do the Converse-Lite shoes work with 'simple boho'? Also considering Stan Smiths for durability.

Anyway, that's it for now. Thanks for reading! Hopefully I've got all the numbering correct on the points above.
