I'm so sorry you've been dealing with so many issues at once (technically not just health but the housing aftermath etc from the mould) - it sounds exhausting! We're in just under 500 square feet between 2 adults & it can feel cramped at times, so I can only imagine...

I know it's far from being the same thing but even when I injured my foot at the start of the year, I didn't feel like getting dressed properly a lot of the time - & that was just from having to be in 'Jesus sandals' on & off for about 3 *months* lol, not 3 years!

I'm glad to see you're feeling better enough about yourself to post outfits, though there's no obligation of frequency - we all dip in & out from time to time. Your makeup is lovely though (like @Jules said, you've got great taste & technique!) & it will be great to see some more fellow Dark Autumn inspiration on the YLF forum

I certainly remember You, too-then and now a beautiful lady!:-) and I can relate (loosing myself from time to time due ilneess or weight fluctuation) but shall I say a style refresh/renewal will help to gain your confidence back. Try to see and emphasize your benefits (beautiful face, complexion and hair, feminine hourglass figure, etc.) rather than sticking with older dressing ruts which don't work for you anymore. Focus on one outfit at a time-take notes what you love or not wearing and start from there-one step at a time. It will quickly brig back your mojo, you know you are fab inside and out!

I see dresses love you- bet even a shorter shift/sheat will look fab on you+ layering can be fab on You! What about finding some skirts as well (tube with a BF blazer, pleated midis with fitted tees and denim jackets for more structure, denim skirts to knees with some hooded cardis, etc). I would all style them with on trend casual shoes, like sneakers& chunky loafers) and NOT HEELS-so dressing them all down a bit. Some girls here are trendy on bottoms and feet-, others can be more classic on top(&torso)-but trendy on feet. why not!

I agree about sheen and texture. I also find the browns can’t be too cool. I don’t know why but if it’s a very cool brown it just makes me shudder a little inside unless it has some red or plum to it. (I just sound like a weirdo!) I found brown pants at Old Navy this winter. The color was named “fudge.” In real life they had this grey or silver undertone to them. It was deep enough but a very cool brown. Between that and just being an odd fit with an elastic waistband that flipped up, I ditched them 2 weeks later. Should have kept the tags and returned them!!

I agree: re browns. They should be a slam dunk for DA, but not always. Best with texture or sheen.
I actually prefer black in general, but brown is much better with teal, blue, many greens, and purples- so I keep both.

Sal, I remember you as well!! Thank you for the lovely compliments. Posting here really did help me. Despite not being 100% thrilled, I also feel like okay -- I'm not as frumpy looking as I first thought.

Jennie NZ I also remember you I'm very thankful I posted here. It's truly been like reconnecting with a bunch of dear girlfriends over tea--very restoring. Brown is actually the one I have struggled with more; if it wasn't the right shade it just felt too boring. It took a style-minded friend pointing out that black makes me ruddy. I've actually never loved nor hated black. I wore it for many other reasons. Also, browns need to be really rich and special, not UPS delivery driver brown. Finding rich brown in basic tailored items like softly tailored, pleated pants has been difficult -- at least for where I can search and afford. Hoping I can sew something down the road, once the mold mayhem is done. (Will it ever be done lol?!)

Joyce B thank you dearly for all of that <3 I do love my knits. I think later this summer or autumn I'll reassess and perhaps do a little more knitting again.

Rejoiceandbe what a great user name!!! You hit the nail on the head. I really didn’t (don’t??) recognize myself. I’ve been heavy in other life seasons and they weren’t happy seasons, save pregnancy. So that adds another layer to it all. Thank you for the feedback and compliments on my outfits!! You’re the second person to suggest sending my husband out for clothes shopping. He’s actually trained as an artist though is in a different field. So I may have to try this!!

suntiger why hello there!! I remember you too! Thank you <3 it’s so nice to be here again! Not sure how regularly I’ll post. But I love being back!

Janet hi!! It’s so nice seeing you and all the regulars I remember again! Thank you for your encouragement and faith in the process! I really appreciate that! I feel better after getting some feedback. I will post again soon. But I think part of my issues is getting sucked into Kibbe all of last year. After that it felt like my new “comfort” outfits weren’t good enough.

Hi Jaime I remember you and it’s good to see you! Thank you for the perspective. I am slowly getting there. It took a while to accept the last 3 years and where things are. I will definitely keep playing with my autumn colors!! My hardest challenge is finding the more unusual colors in retail. i did find the elusive dark autumn orchid… in a bra. Of all things ha! Otherwise some of the colors have been very elusive to buy. May have to try dyeing once the is no longer chaotic!

Nomad thank you so dearly! I really hope things begin to shift by summer. So we will see. I would love to have an autumn sister!!! I really do believe that what we love is often what flatters or expresses us. Not always but so so often! I’ve seen cases otherwise but not tons. Thank you for your encouraging words <3 I’m hoping your life’s comes back into lovely order soon. Sometimes the broken pieces make the most beautiful quilts when they’re all stitched back together <3

I am so sorry to hear about your long illness Keturah. You are as beautiful as ever despite everything you have been through, but I get how changes can rock your sense of self, despite what other people see. Total projection: for me, it all starts with accepting the changes and remembering to talk to yourself as you would talk to a friend. Anyway, you look gorgeous and I do think a little play time with your newly found colors is definitely in order.

I am so sorry you're dealing with mold and resulting health issues. It's awful stuff. But I'm glad you identified the problem and are dealing with it. Remediation is no fun, but it'll be so much better on the other side. I hope you respond well to the medical treatments this summer and start to feel more like yourself.

You're beautiful. Full stop. And you absolutely glow in those Dark Autumn colors! (I'm really hoping I'm a sister autumn to you, since olive green is my favorite color.) I love the jeans outfit; you look super cool. And the belts look great on the dresses to give them some structure.

I don't know if this will help, and it's not style-related, but when I'm feeling overwhelmed (which has been a lot lately), I look for what I can control, and try to let go of my anxiety about the things I can't (easier said than done, I know, but it's a practice). I haven't been through anywhere near what you have, but I'm also in the process of trying to put my life back into some kind of order, taking it a little at a time. I think my best advice is to be kind, including and especially to yourself. This is all hard. You've been through a lot. You're doing great.

Health challenges and uncontrollable body changes can really do a number on your self-esteem, can't it? In addition to feeling horrible physically, you don't recognize yourself in the mirror . The sense of "who am I" may add to the stress of the situation in a way that you don't expect.
I like what I see in your images. The colours and the variable textures look good on you. I think that you have successfully found a way of taking back control of your situation, at least appearance wise.
I had different health challenges but I found that finding a few outfits that gave me confidence, and could be worn on repeat, were very helpful. (Mix and match separates in a limited colour range). My husband actually picked them up at Walmart. He knew my taste but also what was flattering. Also, as an engineer, he paid attention to details such as what could be easily put on and off, when there were physical limitations. Don't know if you have someone who would perform a similar office for you?
Good luck.

Tanya, you're so lovely! It's nice to see you again too! Thank you <3 It seems like olive is my killer color I need to get even more of it! I actually didn't find clothing a distraction. it reminded me of the weight gain, to be honest -- horrible and vain as that is. (Makeup has been more of a distraction, for some reason.) But I am trying to find some fun in all of it. thanks for a great rec re Nordstroms and Saks!! I honestly forgot about them. I also didn't realize their discount stores were online now. I love finding treasures, so I will go take a look! :D

Nice to see you again, Keturah, and I am very sorry about the health struggles.

You are a gorgeous woman and I think the Dark Autumn colors suit you very well -you glow in that olive top in #5.

I second everything Helena wrote about moving forward, one step at the time. I personally find clothing/dressing a positive distraction from not-so-nice reality, but know not everyone feels that way. I like to shop online at discount stores like Nordstrom Rack and Saks Off Fifth, it is much easier to search than in actual store and one often founds unexpected treasures.

Suz, oh it's lovely to see you again, too!! I remember you! I gained more weight recently and that is mostly why I felt kind of shook. Even the clothes I had purchased the last year or so that fit were snug. It felt frustrating. So... I went for comfy, easy, and loose. Thank you for sharing some confidence and breaking it down. I probably could do with a bit more accessories! Or at least to wear what I own. It's super easy to get into a slump. I homeschool my son full-time on top of everything else. So some days I'm proud to not still be wearing pajamas come 10am (or 4pm). But it's not a habit I'm loving, even if some days it is what it is.

Cardiff Girl, thank you for your kind, consoling words <3 I have had health issues off and on for years. But this has taken the cake. I hope you are doing well <3 Also -- It's nice to hear that autumn suits me so well!! I will definitely be investing in more autumn makeup and such!! I have been a machine about buying dark autumn items since I draped.

slim cat, thank you!! I was (am) so relieved to be a warm season. I'm not feeling better yet. But my treatment hopefully begins this summer. Just have to finish remediation before I can begin. And then we shall see!! I forget about Marshalls and the like. That is a great idea!! I am so glad I posted. It feels like seeing a group of lovely girlfriends posting here. :)

Sharan, I really hope your friend comes out of it well <3 I kind of wondered if my issue was mold--mainly because we started to see visible mold a year ago. But I denied it. I have a friend who went through serious mold toxicity and I didn't want that to be me. Well... tada. Anyway-- I remember you and it's lovely to see you again, too!! Thank you for the helpful feedback on the belt and cardigan. That's really nice to hear! I kind of knew the dresses aren't my best. But I also just needed easy. You're a gem, and I am thankful to see you again <3

RobinF, thank you! It has been a wild ride. But I am grateful to know what is going on. I think once I am through treatment I will definitely add more! For now, I think I will focus more on accessories. Those feel a bit easier or safer. But I'm also trying to stay open in case I see anything that catches my eye and would suit me.

Rachylou, oh I remember YOU!!! Your comment about not remembering a former co-worker cracked me up ha! I was actually thinking of you as I posted, I wonder if Rachy is still here. I really appreciate your concern!! <3 The one challenge I have found with mold is many don't understand at all-- unless they or someone close to them has been through it too. You can't just take an aspirin and drink some green juice. All of the potential dangers (cancer jeeeepers!) is scary. I even had a friend go through organ failure due to it. re: style. Thank you for the cute compliment! :) I feel I've been thrown into a bit of a style identity crisis maybe?. Window shopping sounds like a wonderful idea. I have been reading a lot of Angie's wonderful posts lately and I'm working to find a balance between practical mommy life and what I love. I'm hoping once the mold is all done I will have a better idea of things??

Vildy, you are so lovely <3 Thank you!!

Bluejay, my heart goes out to your friend! That is awful! Anytime I meet someone know with weird chronic issues I want to scream "have you checked for mold?!" Wow, you went through so, so much! That is intense, especially with a little one. I'm so sorry you went through all of that. I love hearing how you've adjusted/adapted to your life now. I adore being a mother, but I have struggled at times with making it practical but still wearing what I love. Thank you for your lovely compliments! I love being in dark autumn. It felt like coming home to be in these colors.

Roberta, harrowing is an excellent word! Sometimes I struggle to put the past 3 years into words. The house... our home is 700 square feet, with two adults, a very active child, and three cats. There are piles, messes, and more -- all for the upcoming remediation. One of my big goals when I'm all healed up and the house is done is to do a major declutter and cleaning over several months. Thank you for such lovely words! I really, really love being dark autumn. I love the cooler side of autumn, but some of my favorite colors are olives, burnt oranges, and golds. I missed them so much in winter!! I love all your ideas! I can't really swap clothes, as no one is near my size or tall height. But I hadn't thought to send out family!!! That's a superb idea!!

cat2, thank you! It was a bit of ping-ponging. Or perhaps more so, hitting massive walls? I tried many things and nothing got better or things got worse.--even with functional medicine. So thankful I ran across posts about mold toxicity. It finally made sense!

Lynn, thank you <3 I really, really love warm greens, and cool greens some too. The one color I cheated with like crazy the I was in winter was... olive green! Like mad!

Helena, it has taken quite a bit to get past how I look currently. I used to be morbidly obese and so uncontrollably gaining weight was well, scary. I took your advice and found some of Angie's past articles on refreshes. So helpful!! I will definitely be wearing more olive! It is one of my favorite greens!!!

Lesley, thank you <3 I do hope with time things will heal and even shift. So we shall see.

KMM, you are so kind! Truly! I struggle. I used to be carded all the time in my 30s, even with a baby/toddler in tow. That doesn't happen anymore. IDK why that has been difficult to let go lol! You sweet soul, what a lot to go through!!! I have issues with a narrowed esophagus and food becoming stuck with normal eating. So I can't imagine going through what you did, but maybe a little bit?? It sounds painful and scary. Feeling vulnerability has been my experience too. The whole experience has been traumatic; I don't say that lightly. I do think some emotional and mental recovery time will be in order as things progress. I love your reminder about comfort going forward! I have been thinking about that so much and will post again with my musings. I LOVE YOUR hair! I have so many silver haired friends that look gorgeous. I use retinol, so I do think there is a mix of grace and practical. Thanks for your refreshing words!

Well you are stunningly pretty so although you might be feeling rough that’s not what anyone else is seeing.l think the autumn colours really make you eyes pop and your skin glow so l would definitely go down that route even if it’s just make up or nail polish.
l do not underestimate how difficult long term health conditions are to bear so be gentle with yourself.

Nice to see you again! So sorry you have struggled with this mysterious illness during what was already a challenging time for so many. You must be so glad to have a diagnosis. And I hope you can get away from the source of the problem.

Like the others, I see a gorgeous woman wearing comfortable clothes in flattering colours. But I also understand the need for a refresh and an update.

I'd do as Helena says. First work on hair, underpinnings, and signature accessories (like specs if you wear). Then start moving outward. You've got gorgeous style already and you will feel better in no time! Yes, it is hard and tiring to build a wardrobe from scratch on a low budget, but if you break the process down into steps, you will soon start feeling better.

I echo the others to say your current outfits are great. I would add new items a little bit at a time as you figure out what is still "you" and what you want to change.

Ugh, what an ordeal. I know someone else who is going through the mold toxicity recovery process. It is harrowing. I don't have similar experience myself, so no advice. But I just wanted to say hi, it's good to see you again! You are looking so beautiful, Keturah! Those colors really do bring out your beauty more than ever. Maybe as you go along on this journey, you can return to these photos sometimes to remind yourself of your beauty, especially on those days when you feel less than fab. Because, wow! Also, I think the cardigan in 7 and the belt in 4 and 9 are great ways of giving shape to the flowing dresses that are most comfortable to you right now.
