Adore the pink on you!

The blush jacket is awesome sauce!

The dot dress doesn't live up to your sophisticated style.

You look incredible in every shot and the polka dot dress looks perfectly appropriate to me (and I go to a church where First Communions are celebrated...) I would just echo that you carefully evaluate how you feel about the dress when you're sitting down. I have a sheath dress that is longer than yours and I finally realized that no amount of smoothing and crossing and shifting makes me feel okay about the amount of leg that I bare when I sit down in it. So don't just sit--cross your legs, shift your weight, really move around and see what happens. It might be okay because in my experience knit dresses show less than wovens.

The pink one is cute and already at your knee, so I can't see how it would be longer.

The polka dot one is just ok. Return.

That being said, I do like the advice given on sitting in the dress for a final determination on whether it works for you... Fabulous jacket that is going to be a very versaitle piece!

The first shocking pink shift dress is absolutely killer and plenty long, Marcy. If it were longer in that style, it would look a little frumpy.

Thanks, LBD, Janet, and Karen!
Karen- The jacket is one of Angie's picks from the other day:
http://www.bcbg.com/Lloyd-Easy.....wvar_KEC4G
It would look great on you! You could probably wear that color way better than me with your blonde coloring.
I hear you on the black shoes- I'll try it with some and see if it looks better. I was sort of thinking that nude shoes might take attention away from so much leg, but black might "ground" it more.
You sure do how to boost a girl's ego with your model question! Heavens no, I haven't, but I'm quite flattered that you would ask that!

These look fab Parsley! What is that jacket?? I love it. On the second dress outfit I think you can try a black shoe or heeled sandal to "ground" this look. It kind of looks like you are shoeless to my eye, with the dark dress and nude shoe combo.

Wow, one would never know you struggle with dresses because these look great. I give an edge to the pink one, but I do like the polka dot with the jacket. That jacket is beautiful!

I hear you on lengths. It's my eternal frustration. I'm only an inch taller than you, and it's nigh impossible to find something non-frumpy that covers my ugly knees.

I so feel your pain! I've been searching for a dress to wear to a wedding in June and I have much the same issues. Add to that the fact that I really don't want to wear a sheath --- I don't like sitting with my legs plastered together in a rickety reception chair all night long. Finding length and sleeves is such a bear!

I adore the pink on you --- I think it's perfect for a 5pm event, particularly in that color. I like the polka dot, and it doesn't look too short while standing, but I would try the sitting test.

And the blush jacket? Yah. I'm going to look at that one right now --- and I don't even think I can wear blush!

I think both are pretty darn killer! LOVE the dotty dress and jacket combo - I personally do not see a problem with the length; you are pretty well covered up otherwise, and the proportions look good, so I don't think anyone will notice the length - just the stunning outfit as a whole.

Sorry to post and run- we had a dinner to go to this evening and I just got home. I really appreciate all your input! Thank you all so much for commenting!

Makrame- I'll check out David Meister dresses. It's good to know that there are some brands that are cut longer.
Gryffin- Thank you so much. I always liked shorter dresses when I was younger, and found them more flattering on me, but now that I'm over 60 I'm torn, because I still do want to look attractive, but I don't want to look weird, and sometimes it's a difficult balance.
Unfrumped- I do agree with you that a slightly longer length is more elegant.
DonnaF and Joy, unfortunately this polka dot dress is a very firm knit that seems unlikely to stretch longer. But Joy, your method sounds worth a try. Thanks!
Liz, I appreciate your honest opinion! I did have a Kamaliculture dress that I really liked, and it was a nice knee length. It's too big for me now, but a new one is worth considering. They're great dresses, and really flattering.
Runcarla- Woohoo! Emma Thompson sure can rock a shorter dress, can't she! That's encouraging!
Tracina, You're right- I think what I like about the polka dot dress is the way it's more fitted.

So, it sounds like the polka dot dress gets mixed reviews. I really like it, but maybe it would be better to save for casual occasions if I decide to keep it. I'd love to find something similar that's a little longer.

I'll check David Meister and Kamalikulture. Any other suggestions?

I won't be any help at all because I think you look great in all. I really like the pink color on you, but I kind of like the dotty dress a bit better (but I'm not sure why) maybe it's a bit more fitted? I think the length looks good on you too (dotty dress) but understand the comfort factor. The jacket looks hands down fabulous on you.

Hi there - just love 3-5. You are going to be able to do a lot with that dress - you must keep it. The jacket is fantastic and I love the rose and grey combination w/jeans in the last pic.

I am 52 and I wear that length, though most comfortable in an inch longer so I get your dilemma. You have the figure, it is completely appropriate.

Thumbs up for everything! How well I know the pain of trying to find a dress with a 39-40 length. You look perfectly age appropriate in yours. Donna F makes a good point though. It might be worth trying to see if the knit could be stretched a bit longer. Hang on a well padded hanger, spray with water or fabric release to dampen well, especially the skirt, weight the bottom ( I use 2 or 3 men's wooden suit hangers to clip across the bottom grabbing front and back and hanging some weight from them like more heavy wooden hangers. Don't let any metal that could rust rest on the wet fabric.
I have serious jacket envy and the nude tone of your shoes so perfectly matches your skin tone.

Pink dress is terrific.
You look fine in the dots, but I sure wish it were longer. It is not really a matter of looking bad or good, such as, are one's knees knobby or something. It is more that to my eye there is more elegance in a slightly longer length. But, you have a high "intrinsic elegance" level so I think that does not trigger the poison eye as much as for my own try-ons-- my "eye" won't let me wear my dresses that length.. In addition, I think there is a fashion shift to slightly longer skirts--at least I feel that in my pencil skirts--I'm having trouble feeling right in some that are at the top of the kneecap (now that winter is over and I would be wearing nude hose and night tights) and feel more current in something just heading over the kneecap or so.

OTOH the pencil-ish style tolerates the shorter length best, as has been pointed out on the forum recently, and the modern shoes and jacket add major power to the outfit, so it is not veering juvie.

So, I think you'd be over-the-moon elegant in knee length, but that's hard to find, so that will likely have to be your personal decision. You're asking what we think but it may be more practical, such as, you look great in everything and it's not worth agonizing over the length.Or, if you just like that length better on you anyway, then that's that.

The sit test is reasonable, and I will say that that fits into the length issue for me--again, it isn't necessarily that one will be "indecent" sitting, but the short straight dress does move up when sitting and I just can't stand fussing with it. So a "short" dress looks one way in a static, standing photo but behaves differently, you know?

Before I had to look for a MOTB dress, I might have thought, oh, that lady should wear dresses that are not that short. I had fully expected to have to hem dresses to some correct length (for the given skirt style and proportions) , and silly me, THAT was never going to be an issue. I went through dozens of dresses for length issues and then if you add in other fit issues it's just a nightmare. Now I'm likely to think, this is as long as many of us can get in an average dress--you go, girl.

Pretty round-about, huh?

Parsley - First, I think you look amazing in both dresses!! I love both on you. The rose is perfect for a wedding and I think the polka dot shift dress is adorable. I love how you've styled it and the jeans outfit, well you just hit that out of the park!! Amazing!! Maybe it's me, but what's the problem, in your heart, with the length? Do you feel others will feel it's not age appropriate? or are you uncomfortable? I only ask because at 54, I wear skirts and dresses that are shorter. I usually wear tights but in hot weather I'll wear nude hose and I have no issues with this - gosh girl, from my perspective, I'm not dead yet and since I prefer shift/sheath dresses too for elegance and conservative a little leg or back dip is where the classy but sexy comes in!! If you are uncomfortable, then follow your heart, but you look divine! You don't look inappropriate you like elegant, stylish, and chic!

You look great in all of the photos!

I have the same problem with dresses being too short (and I am of average height, 5'5", but with most dresses being 36-37" long, it is hard to find what I want). One thing I can tell you - I recently tried on several David Meister dresses and while none of them were perfect for me, they were all about 39-40" long. So that may be one brand to look at, and the quality is great as well.

The pink colour is absolutely gorgeous, really suits you. Polka dot dress is lovely too but I would think for another occasion - it doesn't light up your face like the pink does. And I love the jacket and jeans outfit. Keep the lot!

Parsley, I think these are both lovely. I have a similar issue with dresses and have been having any new ones tailored to fit:).

The pink dress is beautiful for a wedding and I think you could certainly wear it for other occasions after, the polka dot dress with the jacket is beautiful for the first communion. While I like the polka dot dress, I do prefer it with a jacket. How do you feel about that?

As for length you have killer legs and I don't find either of these too short at all.

And #6, totally fab!
