So frustrating! Even in stores, I find that I can try on 10 items and walk out with none. Since my wardrobe "holes" are issues of what I'd like, not really what I have to have, I've learned to just move on and be grateful that I've learned to pass on so-so pieces (Thanks, Angie).

Hope you find your seasonal refreshers soon!

I know how you feel, as that was me last spring. I needed a dress for a wedding and could not find anything. There was a parade of dresses coming in and out of the house. I finally found one but had to alter the bust, which is a pain in the you-know-what. This year, I'm up to four new dresses (and didn't go looking for any of them) and the only alteration two of them need is for me to let down the hem.

Talbots makes a side zip ankle pant but the rise might be higher than you want. J Crew has the side zip Martie ankle pant that has a slightly lower rise than the Talbots pants.

In the last month, I have had to return, to Zappos or Nordstroms, five pair of nude sandals. In the last 2 years --I have had to return a total of 3 items. It's making me nuts. My IRL stores have so little to choose from that it's either online, or drive 100 miles to Phoenix to walk my feet off looking and possibly being very disappointed.
I feel your pain.

I was tempted by that same Longchamp bag, too. Love the colors.

And I will tell you I really hate high rise pants. My waist is never narrow enough and my rise is not that high and they're just pinchy and awful. If they are back permanently I will die.

I keep striking out on trying for a flattering, well-cut, simply designed, good quality and dirt resistant light or white topper (preference for water resistant trench or moto style jacket) in my price range.

Yes, it can feel pretty frustrating. I have a constant rotation of trying and returning since I do pretty much 98% of my shopping online for both me and DH. I'm pretty used to it though and now I tend to order in groups and then do returns in groups so I can easily track the packages. I return much more than I keep and do take a hit on some shipping fees, but at least I'm better at only keeping what I know I will really wear.

I'm doing a ton of returning lately too. I keep wondering if Nordstom is going to ban me from ordering there. But every time I have things in my shopping cart they send me an email begging me to try them and promising their free returns. It's like their auto system is an enabler! One of these days a red flag is going to mark me as returning 90% of what I order and the enabler is going to cut me off.

0 for 3 on nude sandals and it's making me cranky too. The slight compensation is that a dress I bought on Etsy is smashing. But unless I want to wear it barefoot...but I'm going to wait like you until I can try them on IRL. The boxing up and flagging down the UPS driver is for the birds. They pay people in stores to stuff all that tissue paper back into the heels for a reason.

Shopping fatigue. It can really take the fun out of it! Good for you for not settling. It's great that you really know what you want - what works, what doesn't - particularly in fabrications. I'm learning something here! Is this PPP? Frustrating but smart. Some seasons in some years work better than others, don't they? It's good to remember this and not feel guilty when stocking up when there's a particularly good season.

I can relate to the purchase return cycle. So sorry these items didn't work out for you. It's hard to know about items when you purchase them online. The photos never really give you an honest sense of what the clothes will look like. I return 6 items for every 1 item I keep when I shop online. That may seem like a lot, but I'm happy with the items I keep, so I have continued my online shopping. It's my main method of obtaining clothing.

Thanks, ladies. Just needed to rant a bit! The thing is, I was really successful with spring shopping last year and it felt like I loved everything, and so it feels much more frustrating this spring. You don't even know about all the black pants and grey jeans I nixed right off the bat because they contained polyester or were high rise...

Jody, I generally find 5% spandex too stretchy but a lot depends on the way the fabric is woven. (I want a more twill like fabric, not a multiway stretch or knit fabric, which I tend to find hot and itchy). In a store, I'd try it. You're right about branching out store-wise - I mostly limit myself to free shipping and returns for online shopping so I really need to get out to some stores!

Janet, I actually think AS tends to be not so much tiny on the bottom as just huge on top... I always have to size way down on tops there.

Unfrumped, good to know those places are starting to get more slim cuts. I'll have to take a closer look. The pants I saw at AT a couple months ago all were too wide at the bottom (and not cotton, but it was still winter then.)

So no fun.
I am still cruising AT ( online), EB and Talbots for pear- pants. They have still been adapting to tapered- skinny so are not as wide- legged as a few years ago. Fabrications vary.

I hear you. I've tried a few things lately only to return it all, but that's ok. My wallet is happier for it, and it's good to back off th spending anyway. My happy exception was the successful Shopbop sandal order (on store credit so free according to girl math!).

That dress is very cute - so bummed it didn't work for you, but that's always been my experience with the few things I've tried on from all saints -- not hip friendly. And I sympathize about the high rise too! And the tote is so cool-looking, the lack of structure is really disappointing. Better luck in the future!

Diana, I feel your pain! Earlier this season I was in the same predicament. I sent back SO many boxes. I tried shopping IRL as a fix, but quickly remembered why I shop online.

The rise thing--I have two pairs of AE jeggings (that fit me like relaxed skinnies) that were sold as midrise that reach my navel. Really? And I have a very long rise! Plus they were also selling a high rise pair, can't imagine what those fit like.

I have a pair of narrow black trousers, 5% spandex (is that too much?) that are Calvin Klein for $60 at Macy's, when I shopped with Rachy. They are two years old but maybe you could benefit as I did from trying other stores, because I couldn't find anything at Nordy even though was willing to pay a lot because I was shopping for an interview.

Anyway, we all have shopping droughts, and they are no fun. Especially when you need clothes and have the money to buy them. Yours will end! Good luck!

I feel like all I'm doing lately is ordering things and returning them. I might need to lay off the online shopping for a while until I can try some things on in person.

Here are some of the things I've tried and rejected recently, with reviews in case anyone is interested.

Allsaints Liebe dress. Currently on sale. I am really sad to return this, because I love the shape and fabric (it's a 100% cotton shirting fabric with no spandex, hooray), and the fit on the bottom is great but the top is probably 2 sizes too big (both in width and length) which is just too much to alter away. It's less sheath-like IRL - the skirt is a bit more voluminous but still narrow at the bottom. Has anyone seen something in a similar shape and fabrication but more pear friendly? I'm looking for a cotton woven, fit ideally a little looser than the model here.

Vince Camuto side zip pants. Nordstrom lied. They are not mid rise. They are high rise. Gah. I hate high rise pants. They make my butt look huge. Seriously I would rather have muffin top. On the good side, the ankle openings are actually skinny and the fabric is pretty good (cotton, not too much spandex). Sigh. The search for skinny black pants continues. Anyone seen anything lately? I want cotton with only a low percentage of spandex, not skintight but with a slim (ideally around 10") leg opening. And needless to say, NOT HIGH RISE. I think the whole high rise pant trend is going to be making me cranky a lot this season. I've heard good things about the Loft ones, but I think I need to go to a store and try them on since I haven't bought anything there for years.

Commando footless tights. These get so many rave reviews and I needed new footless tights (I MUCH prefer them to tights with feet, particularly with boots). The fabric is nice and the waistband is indeed dig-free. However, it's also HIGH. (sense a theme here?) Like, not just I-don't-like-high-rises high, but really, objectively TOO HIGH. Almost touching my bra band high. Yes, they don't dig but I can still feel them on my ribs, which is really unpleasant. (My rise is a normal length by the way.) Thank goodness Nordies' allows you to return hosiery!

MZ Wallace Chelsea tote in Cosmic print. I really want another laptop tote for days when I don't want to carry my black Longchamp. Normally I love MZ wallace bags, but this one was just too floppy and unstructured. It was visibly distorting in shape when I put my laptop in. It looks so nicely shaped in the pictures but I think they must stuff it really full for the photos because when empty it's a floppy mess.

Also tried a bunch of grey jeans, none of which worked...
