I think that a bra strap that shows is no longer an fashion no-no, especially when wearing a more casual outfit.
My strapless bra is not as comfortable as my regular ones, so I rarely wear it anymore.

Thanks Gigi, I was imagining a "boob tube" look - but I definitely want padding and not flattening!

I tried on some CK strapless T-shirt bras at lunch today. They were on sale, which would have put them into my budget - but sadly I didn't find them very comfortable and also, they are clearly too big for me - even the A cup. It is possible that with my recent slight weight loss I may be actually a AA cup.

Thanks for the input on going braless - I may adjust to that idea

I think a bandeau bra is one that is basically a stretchy tube that fits around your bust. There is usually some padding, and there are cups, but no straps or underwires. They are worn a lot by the younger set. I have worn them in the past and have found them to flatten me out, which I didn't like at all since I am already small.

I agree with Joy that it is also worth experimenting with going braless. It is uncomfortable at first, but after a while you get used to it and can embrace it as another "look." I often go braless, especially in the summer when I'm wearing looser garments that would show regular bra straps. Runway models go braless on the catwalk all the time, so I figure that the rank-and-file woman can be fashionable in this way as well.

Elpgal, I'm not sure what you mean exactly by a bandeau ?

I've had a fitting and was told that I am either a 12A and 10B, depending on styles. The bra I got then is great, but not strapless.

I agree with the above recommendation to try the Calvin Klein bras. You should be professionally fitted, I thought I was a 12B and ended up being a 10C. The correct fit makes all the difference.

I second Gigi on trying Calvin Klein bras. I have several because I could get them in pretty colors with matching undies.

Not if you wear the right fabric. My favorite is cotton denim...heavy enough not to show anything but stands away from the body enough to be breezy. Do not wear knits.

I agree with Joy that I would try a place with good bra fitters. I recently went to Nordstrom and found that I was actually a smaller band size with a larger cup--no wonder nothing was fitting right. (I thought I was an A cup but am actually a C.) Now I have some bras that make me look amazing, even though some have no padding.

One of the bras I got is a Calvin Klein strapless. It is a push-up, but the push-up padding is very comfortable. It's a very nice bra. Do you think you could get it in Australia? (Note: I did not have to order one cup size up but got my regular size.)

Oooh, radical Joy! I certainly often do that at home, but going braless out? There'd be nipples showing for sure!

I empathize as I have a similar problem. Get to a place with great bra fitters. Good fitters know what will work. I my case I needed a smaller band size than what I was wearing for a strapless bra to be comfortable. My strapless is Natori.
The other thing is to embrace your shape as it is. After a bout of shingles when I could not wear a bra, I began to like my braless shape. We who are small don't depend on bras for support. Try your woven clothes without a bra.

In summer I just about live in strapless bras, as in our hot Australian climate so much of what I wear has necklines that demand it, like spaghetti straps and cut out shoulders.

I am very small busted (I barely wear an A cup) and rely on bras as much for their padding as their other functions! Because strapless bras don't cover as much territory, there is less padding, so I feel even smaller. I'm not small over all, with fairly strong shoulders, a not-tiny ribcage, and lots of bottom and thigh er... "muscles" so I like to add something to feel proportional.

Any hints out there?
