Try Uniqlo while you are in Soho. I had some fantastic straight leg jeans from there last year and the price can't be beat! Check out Scoop for all the high end denim brands.

Thanks for the link, Inge. I've got a few more brands on my shortlist now. Thanks for chiming in about the Matchsticks, Maya, that's good to know. 7.5" is a bit lower than what I'm looking for. If I find myself in a J. Crew I'll give them a whirl, but I won't bother otherwise.

Good sample sale tip, too. I'll be in Soho on the first day to get my hair cut, so I'll keep a lookout. I've mainly stuck to department stores for jeans in the past- my friend who I'm visiting loves Bloomingdale's, and I've had good luck at Barney's before. Other than that I don't really shop too much when in NYC- I'm usually too busy eating;)

Anyone else have ideas?

I am not a pear and even I found the Matchsticks were just too slim-cut to fit around my hips and bum. They are also low rise. Mine were 7.5" in the front, and 11" in the back. It never hurts to try, but I wouldn't go out of my way.

I can't rave enough about my Rich and Skinny High jeans, but I don't know where you would find them. I got mine online. It seems a bit harder to do such specific shopping in a brick and mortar store, unless you go there knowing in advance (through a friend or whatever) that what you want is there.

I would also stroll around Soho and look for sample sales. With the current recession, they are all over the place and you can get premium jeans for $80 or so.

Hi Ele

I'm sure they others will chime in with excellent suggestions soon. You can also search for jeans by 'rise' on this website. Maybe that can help narrow it down too?

Hi, ladies. In preparation for my trip to NYC at the end of the month, I'm trying to plan out some of the shopping I'll be doing. I won't have a lot to spend, but one thing I'm on the hunt for is a new pair of jeans- I usually try to get a new pair every time I go, as the prices for premium denim here in London are ridiculous. (The cheapskate in me can't stand the thought of paying £170 here when the same thing would cost $190 there!)

I am looking for dark wash, straight leg jeans with a high-ish rise. I am slightly pear shaped, so straight-ish legs work better than true skinnies on me. I've got two pairs that I'm getting wear out of right now- some Paige "Blue Heights" skinnies, and some Earnest Sewn Deccas. I like the cut of both, but wish the rises were a bit higher. I don't mind spending around $200 USD, but won't go too much higher than that.

I think I'm going to hunt down the COH Elsons, and maybe try J. Crew's Matchsticks (although I think the consensus here might be that they don't work for pears? ) Can anybody think of any other specific styles that I should check out?
