I hope not, though I've only been in a couple B&M clothing stores in the last 6 months. Having a mask on and being worried about social distancing takes all the fun out.

I was in a couple of my mom and pop local stores this weekend, 1 of the store owners told me she had not decided what to do about fall, and my though was its August, you’re not having a plan is basically a plan to close...sad, i will miss this store, but will also admit this store sold very little that was not easily accessible thru Nordstroms or Zappos, often for much less. I was willing to pay a little more to support local, but i would have loved for her to have stocked smaller lesser known brands.

As long as my Anthroplogie, Banana Republic, Ann Taylor, Loft are still there, I'm happy with that. TJ Maxx is hit or miss for me although I did find a few things. I haven't really shopped for clothes on Amazon except for running shoes.

Janet - Your Nordstrom is closing? Egads!! I think the one near me is still open but I haven't gone to that specific mall for a long time.

I had to make some Amazon returns yesterday, and they take those at Kohl's, so I ventured into Kohl's to do that little task. Another store that looks like it's on its last legs. Nothing appealing in sight, and barely a soul in the store.

I went into TJMaxx and Home Goods a few days ago for some storage bins and baskets, and those stores seem more like "normal," although not what I'd call busy. On one hand, I'm happy to see that not a lot of people are out shopping casually, but on the other, it's a little surreal and I wonder where it's all headed. Cindysmith, I worry about just the thing you're talking about -- will we be left with just Amazon and Walmart? Ugh.

I have been unimpressed with Macy's for a long time. Stein Mart hasn't impressed me since the great economic crash of 2008, when I got a pair of Theory wool skinny pants for $2.95 + tax. Less than $4 for a pair of pants that I literally wore to death? I think my cost per wear on those pants was around 50 cents within a month, and probably around 1/100 of a cent over the lifetime of that pair of pants.

Stein Mart and Chico's both seemed to carry an unusually large amount of blinged out boho polyester in my area. Macy's wasn't much better. Dillard's hasn't impressed me in over a decade, either.

I only shop Walmart and target clothes for stuff I know I'm just going to destroy at work; same for Gap, Old Navy, and several other mainstream retailers. When I do shop those retailers, it's clearance and/or deeply discounted sale items. Nordstrom and The Real Real have become my go-to solutions for clothes to wear when I'm not at work (which isn't often these days thanks to the joys of being an essential worker).

While I'm not a fan of most retailers, I do lament the loss of choice for lots of women. All of these store and restaurant closings remind me of that line in that Stallone movie "Demolition Man": they're on the way to a gala dinner, and Stallone asks Bullock what restaurant it's at, she replies "Taco Bell", he is dumbfounded that he had to put on a tuxedo for dinner at Taco Bell, she informs him that after the restaurant wars of the 90s "all restaurants are Taco Bell". All drugstores are CVS/Walgreens, all grocery stores are Kroger/Walmart, all department stores are Target/WalMart, all the hardware stores are Lowe's/Home Depot..... Its like that Canadian show "Continuum" where all governments collapse and there is now a 'Corporate Congress'. We are losing mom & pop operations, we are losing small banks, we are losing choice. It's surreal and it makes me sad.

I hope you find some suitable alternatives for shopping for yourself!

It's kind of depressing. Not that I'm shopping much or even tempted by much lately (my rather boring recent shopping efforts include stocking up on my favorite V-neck tees at Madewell thanks to a birthday month coupon, and trying to replace hiking shoes and boots). I was pretty excited about the mule sneaks from NAS. But our Nordstrom is closing, and I worry that other b&m stores in the area are not far behind. Oh well, I'll save money! I certainly have enough to wear.

If this pandemic goes on long enough are we going to e left with Target and Wall Mart? In my little world of lots of older women Stein Mart and Chicos seems to be the places everyone shops. Some others like Nords for special stuff, and throw in some Marshalls and that is it except for on line purchases. Stein Mart is going out of business. Stopped in yesterday as there is one next to the market I go to. Things were mostly only 10% off so far, but there is soooo much merchandise in there. Stein Mart and Macys seem , to me, they have been overstocked for a long time.
