Likewise @rachy - thanks so much, @gaylene! Getting frustrated with not being able to find exactly what I want at retail anymore, so am tempted to take matters into my own hands (literally) ;)

At the moment, I'm just doing simple repairs & alterations because I can only hand sew here. Can't wait to move back home (eventually), where housing is actually big enough to accommodate a sewing machine!

There are lots of online sewing courses, videos, blogs, and pattern sites, but I think the key to successful at-home garment sewing is to understand how to adapt and fit a pattern to an actual body. Otherwise, it’s probably better to stick to craft sewing or voluminous, unfitted garments

For what it’s worth, here are some sites that I’d recommend looking at if you are keen on learning how to sew something you might actually want to wear in public. All these sites are run by professional instructors and have excellent videos and online courses.

Threads magazine is also a treasure trove of information, tips, and techniques. A good beginner starting point is this article
https://www.threadsmagazine.co.....-should-kn

Catherine Daze’s blog is fun because of her fearless approach to more intriguing designs and sewing challenges. It’s not instructional but inspirational…
https://blog.cyberdaze.org/page/2/

SarahD8, thanks! Not sure how I didn’t see the link. That’s exactly what I was looking for—that and other sewing sites

I think people were just talking about the site that Vildy linked to?

https://fashion-incubator.com/.....l_toe_pt2/

Alterations don't seem to be the only topic of her blog so if you go to the homepage the content might not look quite on point...but maybe if you follow tags from the camel toe/wad post to find similar content?

One of these days, I will get more into sewing and doing my own alterations. I’ll need plenty of advice and info beyond my 6th grade home ec class.

Several people mentioned the Fashion Incubator in Zaeobi’s Polterwang post, but googling brings up a bunch of sites with that name, none of which look likely to be what people are referring to. Would someone please give me the correct link?

What other sites have you found helpful for ideas and how-tos, please & thank you.
