Joy, I hadn't thought of ordering the Fluevogs--that's a possibility! I tried them on in store--twice, in fact--and I didn't want to go back and try them again unless I was pretty sure I wanted to get them.
Here's where I'm at, though. I kept the Dune Londons but did not yet wear them. I saw another pair, called Peppie, by the same brand and have ordered them. I have kind of high hopes for them; they have a lower heel and taller shaft than the Parnell and an almond rather than rounded toe. They are a little more expensive, but just over $100 (from Dune London, where I found my size; they are less at another place I found them, but not in my size), so still a bargain. Part of my original hesitation on the Fluevogs was that they are so nice. As in, the leather is so soft and nice, I would be afraid of ruining them. And I was really looking for a lower heel, although the heel could work for me; it's not a deal-breaker.

eta: Oh, and I hear you on Clarks. I'm that way with Eccos. Almost always between sizes. Though my recent sneakers from them seem to be the right size, despite the annoying break-in period that they are requiring!

Could you order the Fluevogs and compare to the Dune Londons, returning the one you like the least? I understand the fit problem. Our feet are all different. Many think of Clarks as a comfort shoe, but they don't fit me. I feel like I fall between sizes. The Dune Londons are certainly priced well. I am thinking of the pair of tan suede that look like SE Pettys but am not sure I want to add tan to my wardrobe. At under $30 they are very tempting.

Here they are, unfrumped. They have a very small back tab, small enough to be of little to no help in pulling on the boot. But it's okay, because they slip on easily for me.
On the Fluevogs, the back tab is a ribbon-like material, so you can tuck it into the boot if you want; I liked that option.

I can't seem to click on the right Find for Dunes. I do get annoyed with the back tabs which can interfere with some if my pant hems. My PG bootees have that but I decided they would be worth it for the rest of the style and fit, but will try to avoid on new items.

Beth Ann, it's true, fit is first. And I'm with you, looking for NON-suede options! I've decided that I'm not going to settle for even waterproof suede with this particular pair, because it's not the look I want this time. I have enough suede boots already. For your reference, I do like the quality of the Dune London pair. They seem sturdy and well-made, and the leather is nice--not luxurious, compared to the others I'm looking at here, but certainly very nice. And the style accommodated my high instep. So it's a brand to keep on your radar, perhaps. If the shaft on them were a little higher and toe a little less round, I would probably be keeping them.

FC, fit is first, in my book! Quality matters also, along with longevity in materials and style. In the PNW, I'd imagine that some water resistance is a good idea, too.

I'll be in the market for a black bootie for fall, also. This year, I was stuck with all suede options, which is definitely not ideal I'll be following your hunt closely!

Thank you Joy and Suz. I appreciate your opinions. It's so hard to judge for myself sometimes what will suit my style and needs best.
Joy, yes, a waterproof bootie would be great. I am keeping an eye out for waterproof ones, as well. So far I have not had good luck with Aquatalias. I try them on every Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, and they haven't worked for me! I do have a pair of Blondos, and I have made them work, even though they aren't a great fit for my foot. For most of my walking, a decent pair of leather shoes will work, as I keep them polished.

I think you need a great pair of black booties. The Fluevogs are my pick for your style but the R&Bs are looking great on you too. Maybe Paul Green will come out with just what you want next fall. Also seriously consider a weatherproof bootie given your walk and wet weather. I am sorry that the Aquatilias are too short.

Honestly I was so awe struck with your top in #1 it was hard for me to see the booties. And actually I think that is relevant. I think you need is a very comfortable black boot with a high shaft that will not detract from your creations. Considering what you have written, I would say the Fluevogs are strong contenders.

Thanks for your comments on my hair, Staysfit. I do like the option of putting it up.

Firecracker, your hair has grown out so nicely. I like how you can easily leave it down or pull it into a ponytail. This was a post about black booties right? I can see why the top contenders are the Fluevogs and the R&B's. I like them both, and while they are next to each other it is easy to see their distinctions. As soon as you pick one and commit, so to speak, you will certainly be content with the choice. It's win-win.

From what I can see in the photos, the Dune London and Rag and Bones are the sleekest. If that is what you're after, I would choose one of those.

I like the Dune London ones a lot. They look similar to my Sam Edelman 'Justin' booties which I love although they're not the most comfortable boots I've ever owned. Still, I wear them all the time.

JAileen, you are so right. The Dune Londons feel good, but not great, when I compare them to Paul Green boots that I've bought. I would need to put the Fluevogs and R&Bs to the same test--I think they felt that way, but I'd try them again to be sure. Maybe I have princess feet; they seem to feel best in my most expensive shoes. Ha ha! (But then, I don't spend a lot on shoes unless they feel amazing, either.)

I thnk you should get the most comfortable ones that are in your budget. If they're comfortable you'll reach for them over and over.

Bijou, high five--another Paul Green fan here. If Paul Green made the style I'm looking for, it would be a no-brainer. They made one with a wingtip, but I want something with a plain toe. Doesn't mean there won't be one next fall.

Jenni NZ, thanks. Yes, the R&B are dressier to me, too. Could be a plus, or not. My style is pretty casual, though I do often rely on shoes to add some polish or sophistication.

Ah, Denise, are you reading my mind? (And I didn't know what I was thinking.) The Fluevogs are very appealing to me. Your comment about the R&B not fitting your feet is so funny. I tried on Acne Jensens, which look SO fabulous on you (I tried them in black leather), and they felt all wrong on my feet. (Which was a slight relief, so I could eliminate them!)

Ah, Rachylou--heavy, yes, that's it about the Dune Londons. I've been trying to determine whether I might want a little heavier look, or not! I didn't know how to describe it. I was thinking "clunky," but they really aren't clunky.

Brooklyn and AndiB, good points. I think that's kind of what I'm struggling with, too. Do I want to be PPP (picky, patient, practical--yes?), and in this case, does that mean going for higher quality since we're talking a wardrobe essential and an anticipated workhorse?

One thing about the "practical" question is whether I want to buy beautiful boots that will get heavy wear, i.e., walking 1/2 mile to the bus stop often in wet weather. (Though I have a waterproof black moto boot for the worst days.) Also, I have a pair of brown ankle boots that are beautiful, bought last fall, which became instant workhorses. So the black ones are alternated with those, with other shoes mixed in as well. So I've been wondering if I need a really beautiful pair of black booties that I love, or a pair that I'm less wild about but that I like quite well? When I put the question like that, it seems pretty silly, doesn't it???? I mean, life is short; why not wear the boots you love? Because certainly I can and am willing to put out the money for the Fluevogs, or for the R&B at the sale price, if I determine it is a good value.

So. . . leaning toward returning Dune London and holding out for one of the sleeker ones. I am thinking the R&B are gorgeous but the Fluevogs may be a little more me, as they are a slightly less mainstream look. Maybe I feel more at home with the slight bit of curve to the Fluevogs (in the gore and in the toe) compared to the super streamlined look that gives the R&B its appeal.
