Well, I'm feeling much better that the white sandals are now sold out in my size!

I do think that a nude or metallic is your best bet. White shoes are hard to wear. I bet having a heel of some wort works bets with the length of your skirts, which is why the flats did not look as good.

Taylor, we posted at the same time... And yes, I think you're absolutely right about the OTK factor. The skirts I have in mind tend to be on the slimmer side, as opposed to a very full skirt like you might wear to a hoedown. They have a little volume when you move--like the Boden Swishy Skirts--but demand a more formal-style heel and a more delicately constructed shoe, at least to my eyes.

Thanks, Tanya and Jonesy! This has given me some new direction--I will try out some nude/beige pumps and see how they do when paired with skirts. I'm encouraged by this, as nude/beige pumps would have less of seasonal limitation than white sandals (which I was uneasy about). Nude/beige pumps always seem to be on those lists of wardrobe basics you're supposed to own--perhaps now I'm beginning to understand why.

I agree with Tanya. Nudes work so well.
I think you may be having a hard time finding a shoe also because of the otk factor on the skirt...unless they are flowey I think a slim skirt needs a dainty type shoe for a longer length

Those pumps would be great for office!

In my opinion, nude/beige shoes do go with everything, and are the most neutral of all neutrals when it comes to sandals, since they blend with your skin. I think they go great with all the combos you mention, much better than white, which can look harsh and is a bit more a of a statement that blend in.

Tanya beat me to it! Ditto what she said. Depending on what sorts of neutrals or metallics you like, you could go warm bronze-y, cool silver or gunmetal, gold, mixed metals, camel...So many options right now.

Tanya, I was eyeing those Laguna Coves while doing web searches this weekend. I remembered they were popular here on the Forum. And I've also been wondering about a basic nude or beige pump like this http://www.zappos.com/steve-madden-ulltra for more formal office attire. But I wonder, does nude and beige really go with everything? I know it's supposed to be versatile as a neutral, but would it go with a dark taupe & white print skirt or a red & white print or a light green & white print?

White would certainly work well, but I personally prefer a nude or metallic strappy wedge sandals. Nude/metallic goes with virtually anything, and wedge helps with stability while elongating the leg line.

I have these two and both have been working great with skirts/dresses this summer:

http://www.6pm.com/clarks-laguna-cove-tan-leather

I posted an inquiry about this a couple months ago, but sadly, we've reached the end of summer and I'm still hopelessly confused. I'm still finding it difficult to pair shoes with my summer skirts--with almost all of my skirts, for that matter! And I have 25 pairs of shoes, so I feel that I must be buying the wrong shoes or not using my imagination very well.

Here in SF, we've had a very cold and foggy July and August, so this hasn't been too much of an issue lately because I've stuck to dress pants to stay warm. However, our warm weather traditionally comes in September and October, so I'm hoping to actually get some wear out of my summer skirts in the next 6-8 weeks. Right now I'm favoring fuller OTK skirts to cover some unsightly knee scrapes from two recent falls, and I have been relying heavily on a pair of yellow Seychelles pumps. But yellow doesn't work with everything. Many of my skirts are a print of some sort, and several have white in those prints, so I'm thinking that it might be useful to pick up a white shoe or sandal for a little more footwear variation. Would it be too awful to wear a white sandal like this (http://www.6pm.com/sofft-ingrid) post-Labor Day, since our weather is so backwards here? Also, should I avoid certain shoes with OTK-length skirts? I've noticed when trying on some of my beloved mary janes that they seem to make my calves and ankles look a bit chunkier with a skirt of that length. Are there specific rules on what kind of shoe to pair with a specific skirt length and what kind of shoes to avoid?

Phew! I don't even want to think ahead to the fall version of this saga. Hopefully boots will resolve most of these issues when we move into the truly cold weather.
