Be your authentic self first. If you are not feeling the 70s thing, opt out. There has always been so much boho in Cleveland that it doesn't even feel fresh to me. I'm still loving my look, hard edge with a little punk, a little avante garde, and a whole lot of Urban Warrior princess. But if you want to participate a little, you can give a nod to the seventies without going all in. Maybe a fringed purse or a little jewelry will give you just enough of the trend. I like the new flares that break below the knee, but I'm so not a dainty pointy toe heel kind of girl. So do I wear them with the footwear that I do love, and someone will tell me how clueless I am or pass on them? I haven't decided so I don't have them yet. I'm not giving up my skinnies or stiraights any time soon. YLF may have to stage an intervention soon. Just know that you are not the only one that feels this way and viva the Ugg boot.

Sterling, that's a good thought. There has to be a strong element of current in your look in order to look stylish. That's why I always put a MODERN in front of Classic - because classics do date.

I agree with Angie and others, but I need to add one tiny comment regarding aging and being out-of-touch. From my observations of real women, the ones that look "aged" and "out-of-touch" are wearing silhouettes using clothes that are decades old. The silhouettes would be absolutely fine IF these women updated the garments themselves to be more contemporary. They opted not to do so and the outfits age them tremendously. And they are not that old. They just seem to be stuck.

I like to wear what I like mostly and sometime follow latest trends. If you know how to wear it, every dress looks amazing. So wear what suits you, it doesn't need to be in fashion. Sometimes only small changes are enough to make them wearable according to current fashion.

I agree with Angie!

I live in the heart of Manhattan, and every direction I look I see every kind of fashion. The best is when a person seems to have their own flavor! So I would say not to worry about not seeming in fashion. As long as you play it well

I think that this used to be much more of a challenge as recently as 5 years ago. About 10 years ago - most of US retail was Boho Casual - and all I did was buy shoes, bags and shirts that season, waiting for it to pass.

NOW things are very different. Skinnies, boyfriends, straights and flares - at any length - are ALL on trend. Take your pick. Boho Chic, Tailored, Modern Classic, Retro Futurism, Steam Punk, Hard Edge, Goth, Arty Eclectic, Urban Pretty, Urban Warrior Princess, Avant Garde, Preppy - and much more - it's ALL available at the same time. The emphasis is on PERSONAL style. Take the trend and make it your own.

this capsule has some great skinnies and slim pants which balance out the tops and look great.
All the fashion stuff is saying why do australian women cling to skinnies? But it seems our American sisters are not swapping all their pants for flares.
I'm short and curvy. Flares look rubbish on me. So this is where that whole follow your style not the fashion comes into question. How do you stay true to your style when fashion is showing something totally anti you? How do you not look aged and out of touch? Does it matter if you look "fab"?
Peplums were easy, never ever went there as my hips didn't need the froufrou, but pant styles can really mark you as out of touch.
