Lyrebird gully, the quality of Etal seemed ok but the 2 things I tried on fit poorly. I found the bust area too small for the rest of the garment. YMMV.

I also discovered an Australian designer for business wear. I have no need for it but quite like the look of it. For those who like tailored pants, jackets & suits check out Cubec in Flinders Lane, Melbourne. http://www.cubec.com.au/

Hi Elle, glad to hear you are having a good time in The Land of Aus -- and getting to do some shopping. It's great that your wardrobe is working out so well- and that you've bought some things that you love too! I discovered Life with Bird for the first time when I flew down briefly to Melbourne 2 months ago, and I remember well their store, and the beautiful fabrics and styles. I missed out on getting to Etal (it was on my to do list) so I only know it from their website. As you say, the prices are hefty. Was the quality and styling good IRL? and did you get to see Alistair Trung in Melbourne too? - another local designer with the edgy draped monochrome aesthetic. His designs are number one in my fashion heart this summer - definitely worth a look if you missed him. (The boutiques are only in Sydney, Melbourne and Byron). The prices are lower than Etal (though not by much), but a lot of store stock is on half price sale although there are no signs up - you need to ask the SA. http://www.alistairtrung.com.au/ NB.The website doesn't show nearly half of what is actually in his stores. Don't be put off by the more theatrical runway Trung styles shown online, his basics are really wearable for everyday. (His AW 2010 collection - on the website - gives a truer feel for the range of basics. The Trung SA's are trained to style you in the clothes -- it is an amazing experience! I have just bought a new season's cotton maxi sundress by Trung in a very dark camouflage green - it was $300, but I am wearing it day in and day out -- - and getting compliments from strangers all the time. His summer leggings are amazingly cool (i.e. not hot) to wear too - and available at half price on eBay :).
NB. Saxony has a similar urban aesthetic to Etal, and is having a sale in their stores - the prices are 70% less than what you would pay at Etal. Nice quality too. Worth a look. http://www.saxony.com.au/womens/tops.html Enjoy the rest of your trip!

Thanks Elle, glad you are having a good time down under and your packing mostly worked for you. I was hesitant about the boots (though not sure what else to suggest) so I am glad they did get worn. I haven't heard of those 2 Aussie designers, will have to look them up.

Though I'm having a wonderful time in Australia I'm missing a lot on YLF & not being one to take photos I'm not documenting all my outfits, but I am shopping. Maybe I will post pics when I get home as I can't do that on the iPad. I'm glad I took the tall boots as it was as cold as 13 Celsius some days with rain on several occasions. I didn't wear the DVF sheath as I haven't been anywhere dressy enough, so I sent it home with hubby as I bought a dress here that was lighter weight fabric, that I could wear to a dressy affair if needed. I've worn everything on my pinterest http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....month-trip except for the denim shorts. I didn't take the red bag but have used all the others. I have worn a couple of dresses loaned to me by a friend while I shop for my own. This hasn't been easy. The ones I found so far were too dressy for the beach. My new favourite Australian designers/stores are Life With Bird & Etal, though I don't know how Etal works for me as I didn't buy anything. It was too expensive for me right now. I love my new dress & shoes from Life With Bird & will post pics soon. I also bought a lightweight silk maxi dress from FCUK Australia, pics to come. It is compact & light for travel, though it does crease. The dresses my friend loaned me were synthetic & lightweight & perfect for travel. The looseness of them made it ok that they were not a natural fibre. I will share pics of those too when I can.
