See Steph - be careful what you ask for (lol)!

I honestly cannot thank you enough for taking the time to go through this for me and providing me with your insight. It has been tremendously helpful to get other people's "visions" and I totally trust your instincts.

I did laugh when you indicated "particular" and "detail oriented" - my hubby prefers to call it "anal retentive" ha ha ha! I'm going to read through your commentary again when I have a bit more time to absorb it all but I think you've really hit the nail on the head regarding jackets and accessories in particular. In fact, I just put a few vintage jewellry pieces into my cart on Etsy to stew over.

And I do indeed love Sveta's style - of course it would have to be scaled down significantly due to our height differences and also accommodate my apple shape, but I like the jackets, structure, cleanliness of it.

Thanks again Steph - you have a great day too!

Oh my goodness! You all have been very busy!! Honestly, that 'exercise' was something i just thought of on the spur of the moment, Shannon - i have searched teh archives here a bit so i knew that the 'team' posts would be easy to find, and other forum members have said that they've learned a lot just by doing the team quizzes. So it seemed a logical next step!

And a worthwhile one, too! ha, i'd like to do this myself! First, i think Claire and Natalie both came up with great thoughts/words. It's really helpful to have a touchstone or two - a catchphrase, a favorite outfits, a style icon - to refer to when shopping or faced with a new situation to dress for.

But with your 'Teams' you get a lot of detailed info pretty quickly! Looking at your choices i notice you seem very particular and detail oriented - this combined with your love of paying less & thrifting means you will need to be patient in developing your style and acquiring your clothing.

I agree with Suz about the importance of jackets for you. Spending some time trying on different styles and paying attention to fit, details, collars, fabrications will serve you well. A love of jackets does tend to point to a love of structure. In warmer months you may want to look for lightweight jackets (linen, cotton), tunics or blouses with more structure (button downs or just ones with more interfacing in the well-defined collars and cuffs), or even shirt dresses.

re: accessories. putting this together with minimal, edit, clean, etc. i am thinking you will want to put some extra effort in to find truly unique pieces. Depending on how 'into' it you want to get, you might want to educate yourself about some vintage pieces. i know we always think of funky over the top gewgaws when it comes to vintage jewelry, but there are some really gorgeous modern-style pieces from the 1930'-60's out there which are knockouts. and, because they are 'used', they don't generally cost more than new of the same or less quality. There is a shop in Berkeley, Annie Ayers jewelry, that carries just this kind of thing. no website, but nice description here:
http://www.yelp.com/biz/anni-a.....y-berkeley

i need to go there, i'll ask her for names, online resources if you're interested. Anyways, the point of that is that it seems a lot of your style will be riding on accessories, so it's worth it to really dig and find pieces that blow your socks off!

I hope that helps...i felt a bit like an astrologer casting a horoscope i need to do the teams myself!!! Thank you for thinking of me Shannon, and have a great day! steph

I agree that there's a lot of overlap in your styles. Very interesting! I didn't see it at first because I was so busy concentrating on the overlap between OUR styles, Shannon! (LOL)

I think perhaps (if I'm not mistaken) Natalie veers more towards the "ladylike" and you veer more towards the "tailored."

You and I are very similar in our passionate love of jackets and in our use of them to anchor an outfit. My fave outfits ALWAYS include a jacket.

Natalie - I love your descriptions - especially "structured whimsy"! You've got a good eye - and I think you're right. Our styles are quite similar in many ways.

OK I browsed back through your WIW's and here's what I came up with for you:
Retro ladylike--you love vintage/retro style and always look ladylike
Classic with a twist--since you like classic pieces but always have something else for interest, like a colorful bag, patterned top (like that purple animal print)
Structured whimsy--love of tailored jackets and crisp pieces, paired with fun details like the fish-bow pumps or cool pendants

Any of these phrases ring a bell? (I feel like I'm describing myself too! I think our styles have a lot in common)

Thanks Claire - I think I need to go lie down now. All that thinking has made me tired! (lol)
Seriously, I want to thank everyone today for all the input on this thread and my others about defining my style. I'm not sure why I was so resistant to the idea - maybe I just felt somewhat overwhelmed by it. But everyone's insights were so helpful that I really feel like I made some progress today. You are a large part of that dear lady!

WOW! You got all THAT from the list Claire???? Interesting...I won't comment on the "pretty", but I'd say you're pretty bang on about the rest of it.

After I read through the list again, trying to think of it as being someone else and not thinking about the question part of each response, I sort of see a style sense...that coupled with Angie's blog posts of who we are and who we are not, I think I'm seeing some clarity here:

1. I like classic pieces - and don't see them as boring.
2. RATE, ALGO, UWP - all styles I totally appreciate on others but are not me.
3. I like a fairly crisp, clean look.
4. I adore jackets - always have, always will - to me they are the icing on the cake and pull a look together.
5. I am feminine in my look.

I would love to find a way to combine elements of Parisian Chic, Retro/Vintage and Classic: OH MY GOODNESS: Have I just defined the style I aspire to???

WOW. It's amazing, but I actually get a picture of a certain "type" of person when I read through that list. I'm not Steph, obviously, but this is what comes to mind without looking back up at the list.

You seem practical, conservative, pretty, neat, clean-cut, crisp, creative, professional, prudent, thoughtful, dependable, attractive and pleasant. Am I close?
