There really is a much narrower lane of acceptability, and, I feel, a limiting of creativity for boys. Ethan also took a lot of flack for being a cheerleader, and he handled that with the same confidence. He did eventually get tired enough of the teasing over his cheer duffel bag that was white with beige polka dots (with his name embroidered in cursive) that he asked me to get him a plain navy blue one (I happily complied).
