Because until quite recently, my hair was in a shorter bob than it is now, and I wear glasses everyday, and it just wasn’t the modern retro look I was craving. With my hair down it just didn’t work as well. Now that my hair is long enough for a short updo, it works. The glasses are still a little complicated but in terms of aesthetics I think my new clear frames will make the look less “cluttered” than my colorful higher contrast specs. </p> <p> I tend to like the flat or more fabric-style headbands that look more like a scarf rolled and tied. Usually I will wear my hair pinned back in a small French knot, arrange my bangs in front, make sure the hair on my head has *some* volume (I have a low/somewhat flat crown and fine hair, and I think headbands look best on me if some hair is visible), put headband on, and if it’s a more slippery fabric one without a “frame” bit just an elastic band, l’ll secure it in place with Bobby pins (otherwise due to head shape and hair type it might slip off.)</p> <p>These are not styled, including my hair, and I took these pics with my glasses off. </p> <p>1-3: Silk knotted headband, elastic. I like this one because it has the look of a scarf but it’s already tied up. It *is* slippery on my fine hair so usually I’ll slip in a few Bobby pins to secure it. </p> <p>4-6: Fabric slightly puffy headband with a similar knotted/twisted fabric effect. This one actually has a frame and stays on well. </p> <p>7-9: Gold and black beaded headband. Long ago I used this for some dressier events, when I had a long pixie cut. I might try it again. </p> <p>10-12: Haven’t worn this feathered doodad for ages but it’s kind of fun so I’ll keep it around as a novelty item. </p> <p>I also have a couple cheap cotton kerchiefs that I’ve tied and knotted over my head (mostly for some sun protection for my hair color) during summer swims at the pool or the lake. </p>
