It's a pretty skirt, but comfort is everything. We can't feel stylish if we don't feel comfortable in a garment, and passing it to a friend is a great way to honor the garment. Thank the skirt, and send it to its new home. I'll even ghost write the thank you post for you if you like :-)
P.S. that's a serious offer. If you want to post a farewell to the skirt, I'm in

Sounds like you won't miss this so I would hand it on. I like pencil skirts with stretch too - I think we probably have similar shapes in some ways. Woven pencil skirts are either too tight on my thighs or too loose on the waist or not tapered enough etc....

It is nice but not for you.

Nice thing about virtually carrying things off is there's no clutter and no maintenance :)

My hz is a bin, and there are a few other pieces besides that I'm questioning, so it'll be a series of posts. Pants will probably be next- including some Angie pants. I looked at them, but want to measure rises.

But 2 new rules have come out of this so far:
No bottoms without stretch. Those are for the straighter figured, stabile size people- not me.

If I want contrast, go with color contrast (like orange + blue), not value contrast (dark + light). I'll be higher contrast when grey, but still no more than medium. Flowy sunset prints will still be the best

Exactly what Lisa said. The things you keep in your wardrobe should work without a heroic effort. Plus, it sounds like you have plenty of other options, so it's not like you'll be running out to buy a replacement.

I'm surprised with all of the stuff you cart off from the forum (haha) that your holding zone isn't gigantic ! Anyways, I'm of the mind that something you have to work so hard to make work and that isn't immediately appealing is due for a new owner.

It sounds like it is a good time to let this skirt go to your friend. I also learned from your analysis. As my hair gets whiter, I am losing contrast and need to think about that. I also do not tan much due to staying out of the sun and using sun block.

Glad Tippi is hanging in there!
My parents both had very dark hair, and I think I was probably influenced a lot by their coloring.

Medium low value contrast. My skin is about 5, hair about 8, eyes about 7.
Higher color contrast- neutralish warm brown hair, hazel eyes, golden skin. Or rather, strong color but analogous. That's why I like the sunset colors or olive with turquoise most together :)

Ah, such a good analysis of why it doesn’t work for you (the white is appealing to me, but I have the kind of coloring you describe). The lack of stretch makes a pencil skirt so much more fussy and problematic for me — it becomes an occasion thing rather than something wearable for a full day, and how many of those pieces do we really need, right?

I find it much easier to let go of items if I know someone personally who will enjoy them. Great solution!

I want to continue my holding zone work, thank you for the inspiration. Our sweet little doggie is still hanging in there and acting nearly normal for the time being, so maybe this is a good activity for these hours when she can just hang out quietly with me while I try stuff on.

Keep the analysis coming! I love seeing the editing process that other people go through — I always learn something.

Kudos to you for identifying why it doesn't work for you - that is half the battle! Is your own coloring lower contrast or high contrast? I wonder if it fights with the skirt... If you have other pieces you would reach for in lieu of this one, it's a good indicator to let it go. I need to keep that guidance in mind!

Yep Toban, exactly! I have this print skirt that is stretchy and is in my palette :)

Every time I have an item with white in the print, I want to dye it to soften the contrast Brooklyn. Sometimes I buy things and then realize they should belong to a lady with dark hair and light skin. Audrey Hepburn or someone like that. I need to stop shopping for that lady and shop for me instead :)
Eta- I have shopped for Angie too!

Reread your post and I suspect you’ll see your answer . It sounds like you’d grab many other options in your closet before this and that it doesn’t fully align with your preferred palette. Pass it on to your friend who might enjoy it more.

First thing in the holding zone- this Talbot's skirt. Bought in 2017, and only thing I ever bought in there. I decided that year that dark florals would be my solution to spring dressing. I like the print, and it goes with many of my colors- but overall, it's just not my palette. Way too much white.

The fit and fabric are problematic. It's woven so no stretch, and cut so straight at the hip I had to go up 2 sizes, then the waist was loose. I altered it to taper to make it more flattering, more Romantic Classic instead of just Classic.

Last worn early summer last year, when it fit. I don't track wears but certainly over 20. If it fit I'd wear it, but I have 5 other pencil skirts that are stretchy. Those are much more comfortable, and wearable at a large weight range.

Considering offering it to a friend, who seems smaller than me and of stable weight. She's currently laid off from her job as a housekeeper, and said she felt bad she didn't have anything nice to wear to church. She may get some of my other things too.
