Dusty, have you had a professional bra fitting?

I echo the recommendations for basics: great jeans at the top of the list.

I would start with a good hair cut and then some of the basics: a great pair of jeans, a skirt, black trouser, some nice blouses and a nice coat.

Thanks guys! I've got the underwear covered (hahaha). I can't deal with undies that are too big so I've been buying as I lose. I do need to go get measured and get some new bras.

In a couple of weeks I'll really get out and get shopping I'm just kind of planning now (the timing kind of stinks, because there are such great sales right now, but it is what it is.

I did stop for a minute at the clearance racks at Penney's yesterday (I needed to return some thing to Gymboree) and found a pair of Ponte knit pants on there for $12! They only had a size smaller than I thought I'd need but I took a minute to throw them on and I think they'll work! (they're a tiny bit snug in the waistband at the moment, but I've still got a few pounds to go0. I'll get a picture, soon to see what you guys think. I don't have a top yet, because I had a little girl with me who desperately needed a nap, but I'll get something soon.

My recommendation is that before you buy anything else, you buy yourself some new undergarments. Saggy, baggy panties don't look (or feel) good under anything, and you'll likely also need new bras to fit your slimmer silhouette.

I know I'm the last person who should be giving recommendations on style, but for a SAHM I'd say that Kristine's and Queenie's suggestions are spot-on.

Congratulations on your weight loss!

If you've never done it, spend some time figuring out which colors work best on you. I wish I had done that when I started. Then you can build piece by piece and everything will work together. Read up on your body type and figure out which silhouettes and necklines work for you too.

If I was starting from scratch the first thing I'd probably buy is a pair of straight leg dark wash jeans. You can dress them up or dress them down. Skinny jeans are popular right now and boot cut is nice too, but straight legs will never look dated.

After the jeans I'd buy a good quality cardigan (natural fiber or blend) in the neutral that looks best on you. You can change it up with different color scarves or shirts.

Even though you're probably feeling a little panicky with nothing to wear, try to build slowly. Only buy what looks great and is nice quality.

Each season I try to buy one or two nice things that will last at least a few years. Then I add in one or two inexpensive trendy things to keep it fresh. I don't have a ton of clothes, but I stretch with accessories and layering in new ways.

Congrats on the weight loss. You must feel so great. You look great! Have you seen Angie's mom on the go posts? That would be a great place for you to start your list from.

http://youlookfab.com/2009/10/.....on-the-go/

here is a link to the first post where she outlined all the formulas. I'd look over that list and pick some items that you think would work into your lifestyle. Don't feel that you need every single component of each formula. Personally, I'd start with a great fitting pair of jeans, some layering tops, and a couple jackets and/or cardigans depending on which you prefer.

Also, rather than go out and try to make an entire wardrobe in one afternoon, I'd start with a couple outfits, and then add to them slowly. Every time you purchase something, make sure it works well with what you already have-- otherwise you risk ending up with a bunch of closet orphans. Since you sew, you might be able to whip up a couple of great dresses too.

Good luck and be sure to post pics of everything you buy so we can all ooh and ahh over your new wardrobe!

Hi Dusty- Congrats on your weight loss! I'm 54 pounds into a weight loss myself, so here's my 2 cents (having gone through a couple of wardrobes along the way). Go through Angie's posts about Mom On The Go formula dressing. These are indespencible to me, and should help you form a general idea of the kinds of pieces that will work for your lifestyle and still keep you looking sharp. That being said- I'd treat yourself to a new hairstyle first off, and then look for a good pair of jeans.

I've recently lost almost 30 pounds (and it'll be 35 before I'm done, hopefully within a few weeks). So, needless to say, nothing fits. I was about due for an overhaul anyway, because my style seemed to have morphed into sloppy-frumpy mom (i.e. mostly plain tees that sort of fit and whatever jeans I could find that would zip) and I refuse to go there again.

Hubby promised me a whole new wardrobe if I hit that 35 lbs. lost but I just don't know where to start (and I know we're fairly limited as far as budget goes). What types of pieces do I need to build a brand new wardrobe on?

I'm 5'10", a "rectangular inverted triangle" (as Angie put it) with a long rise. I'm a stay at home mom of young children. It'll be winter for awhile yet so I think I'll need to start there and do more as the seasons change. Oh, I do sew, so I can add more "fun" things that way.

Thanks!
