I have heard good things about Acne jeans (and have tried on many, many pairs in my hunt for my first premium jeans!) While they are generally over the $200 mark I think (they are around £170 in the UK) they would fit your budget on sale and what you want sounds quite classic so shouldn't look 'last season' even on sale.

That said I have bought gap jeans quite a bit too and they seem to hold up fairly well too and don't bag out as much as some others.

Also, check Revolve and Shopbop - they often provide front rise measurements which others sites do not.

The James Jeans Hunter style is my current favorite. It has a higher rise, and straight but not clingy legs. For me they are an alternative to skinnies.

I tried on several styles of Paige jeans last week and there are some with minimal/no stretch. Don't bother with the Canyon style if you need something high-rise.

Nordstrom, Rack, Buckle, Lucky Brand and Gap have a wide assortment of styles.

Good luck!

I have Paige Hidden Hills bootcuts and they work for my curves. They have higher rise and not too tight. They also don't stretch that much and sometimes you cna find them under $100 online.
Good luck with your search, I hope it is more successful that mine!

You might try Paige (the one I have is a little low rise, others might have suggestions on a higher rise one), or 7FAMK mid rise bootcut. For lower priced options I would go try on jeans at the Gap and Ann Taylor.

I am ready to search for a new pair of jeans and I want collective advice from the forum. I want higher-rise, form-fitting, minimal-stretch, dark-wash, straight-leg or boot-cut (not tapered / skinny), something that will last through at least 20 (gentle) cycles through the laundry, $200 or less. Brands, stores, other advice?

I am a curvy hourglass shape on bottom, generally size 8 or 10 in dresses and 32" inseam (bizarrely when I bought my current workhorse pair of BRs the size 4 fit best.) I buy jeans as tight as humanly possible knowing they will stretch out.

I am a skirt person through-and-through and I only own 2 pairs of jeans. And they get worn most often for the same reason my tots use bibs - as a receptacle for bits of baby food! In reality this means that many Saturdays I end up wearing them all day. Anyway the wash on my current pairs is looking kind of dated to me and also they are pretty stretched out, thus the search.

All thoughts welcome!
