Back at work and training two new staff so I only just got back to this. My hand is healing well although there will be a large scar....It was unfortuneate timing as some beach activities were curtailed for five days (sea-swimming, more biking, some walking etc). My leg was also very bruised and scraped...but it was all superficial. Wear bike gloves even on casual rides is my motto now!!

Thanks Loz_Ozz - where I work the dress standard is pretty casual so I usually think that nobody would even notice what I wear - which is freeing in a way!!

Thank you Star. I am enjoying having a white dress and plan to wear as much as I can over the next two months.

Haha Bijou - yes my almost 17 year old son can be useful can't he!!

StagF - thanks! I agree with all your thoughts - and I know being active is a strong part of your nature as well.

Helena - I do feel I am getting there with my style - definitely making less mistakes, and having a better eye for what will suit me.

Thanks Lyn - it did feel right to say energetic rather than bold. I am an active person but not especially good at traditional sports.

Nikki - haha - I am not very angelic but I guess I can dress like one :)

Suz - sadly I know you know about bike falls. I came off lightly!! And thanks for the lovely compliment.

Cardiff Girl - for me the Do Not Buy list is a reminder - summer clothes, active wear, black - all easy defaults for me.

Nemosmom - thank you! I have one unworn purchase from 2021 and am desperately wanting a reason to wear it. Life is pretty casual right now and I don't see that changing...

Thanks Angie.....It's nice when you have these moments of peace and happiness in your style and wardrobe. I know wardrobe nirvana doesn't last forever so I will enjoy it whilst it lasts...

Thanks Suntiger!

Shevia - thank you very much!

Brooklyn - here's hoping maybe 22/23 allows trans Tasman travel. I appreciate your words and thoughts about my style - I have circled around a bit with some misfires to get here (and partly I think current shapes, fabrics and styles are easier for me).

Happy new year!

Well done on having a good style year. I definitely feel that you’ve become more relaxed, confident and consistent in your style in the time I’ve been here. “Energetic” is a good tweak. I think you could incorporate a word like “approachable” in your style description. I’m not sure if it’s a goal or not, but you always look like a person I’d enjoy meeting and have a chat with. A goal I have achieved :)

The white dress is stunning on you.

Hope the hand heals soon.

Happy New Year, Sally, and what a great plan! I love your new moniker -- and agree it encapsulates your style even better than the previous one. You need your clothes to move with you and to express movement.

I'm really sorry about the fall, though, and hope you will heal quickly. Ouch!! Bike falls are never fun.

What a gorgeous linen dress, and wow, was that floral ever a fab purchase for you! So lovely. You look absolutely relaxed and comfortable in your own style. Your attitude is the best!

Your additional footwear this year has all been terrific for you. I agree that sometimes adding in that capsule gives us the biggest fun, the biggest lift, the most use-value. Footwear is usually costly but it can have an outsize value in the closet as well.

I so agree, sometimes new (and perhaps better choice of ) shoes can elevate a lukewarm outfit! Then I like the moniker "energetic" instead of "bold" for you, and it really shows your are one of that kind(energetic!). Your genuine smile and confidence is shining through all your outfits and -I learnt it here -"milk in one's authentic style"-you do this so great- and this is why you are a great inspiration for many of us here. Happy New Year, Sal, hope those stiches will heal quickly!

So great to hear you had a banner year! That white dress is super on you. Slicing up your hand is no fun, but the fact that you’re out there zooming around in your 50s kind of proves the “energetic” part. (That’s what I tell myself about breaking my foot while trying to do a handstand anyway). About the dishes—a friend told me recently that his mom always said “as long as I have kids at home, I should never have to clean”. Try it on your son

Smart planning points here. I agree that it’s just as important to have a what NOT to buy list. I also see the sense in not worrying about wether your look is current, flattering or repetitive - so sensible that improvements or tweaks may change how you feel.
That white dress is very you and so versatile and will look great with your white Birks and tan accessories, green bag etc
Glad to hear you had a mostly fab holiday, and hope you heal quickly.

Happy New Year (Belatedly)

I have been mostly absent from the forum for three weeks due to summer vacation, I have read some posts and commented on many less. I have enjoyed reading many reviews and apologies that comments have been sparse!

I am back home again after some time away, and have made my 2022 plans. We had a lovely break - I did have a nasty fall off my bike and had a long day at ED with two attempts cleaning my hand and in the end stitches from the plastic surgeon. It is on the mend now.

2021

Whilst Covid threw some spanners in the works, 2021 was not my worst year (2016-2017 takes that prize). Our business had some big wins, and my immediate family are all doing well. And from an overall confidence and style perspective, I actually think I had a strong year. This is due to a number of factors - but one of them is the guidance of Angie and the forum. Whilst there is stress in my life (mostly work related at the moment), style and fashion have been a fun distraction and I have honestly stopped worrying if my look is current or flattering or repetitive. If I wear something that doesn't feel right, I tweak it next time.

The numbers

I added 36 pieces in total for the 12 months.

- 14 were sports gear or practical pieces (eg slippers, laptop bag)
- 11 were splurges, experiments or statements (5 Piece French Wardrobe items)
- 9 were essential replacements
- 1 was a new essential.

My wardrobe is up to 101 for clothes, shoes, bags and about 170 if I include active wear, sunglasses, scarves etc.. It has grown mostly due to more footwear and more active wear/sports gear - and less editing as well. I have a couple of pieces that have been downgraded to lounge wear and have been replaced but not yet edited.....I didn't add any scarves in 2021 but have a collection of about 15 pieces that I can't edit down. I also have close to 50 pieces of gear.....

Having a few additional pairs of shoes has made my wardrobe feel more cohesive and fun...I added in three new pairs of shoes in 2021 and only edited one out.

I had lots of shopping successes and I have attached the finds for my top 5 additions (in terms of most wears for the year). There was also a white linen dress added at the very end of December that I have attached the find for - it was perfect for New Years Eve!!

2022

My wardrobe is in good shape, including lingerie and socks and basics. My sports and active wear drawers are full and I doubt will need much updating at all - I am planning more hiking so it is possible that additional layering merinos etc may be needed.

My summer clothing is also in good shape and I don't plan to add anything else for hot weather.

My needs will be for transitional seasons and winter - a new tailored coat, practical lace-up boots that can cope with pavement and fields, a replacement to my grey merino sweater....I am sure there will be more.

Style Direction

I am tweaking my Style Moniker and description to:

Grown Up Charlies Angel - relaxed, elegant and energetic (replacing bold). I do like bold colours, patterns and jewelry, but I think energetic encompasses sportiness, strength and my spirit better.

A do not buy list is helpful for me too.
- no more dressy/party clothes
- no more high summer clothes
- no more active wear tees or gym shorts/leggings
- no more puffed sleeves - I like them (unpopular opinion) but I have three pieces and don't want any more
- no more winter black near my face (trying to keep black to a minimum and have a more vibrant winter palette)

That's about it for now. I have attached a few photos from the last couple of weeks featuring some casual entertaining outfits. And of an aerial display right above us on a perfect summer night. The only new piece is the white dress in the first photo.

Thanks in advance, and comments, suggestions or feedback are most welcome.
