I love the palewave items you have purchased, the clean lines keep them looking crisp, modern and not too sweet. Laughing at your accidental lilac capsule, that happens to me too, I suddenly find that I have inadvertently gravitated to a colour.

Yes I agree La Pedestrienne. Lots of pink, lilac and pale blue featuring here for menswear.

I have avoided pastels for so many years - I have a blush top and did have a sweater which wore out. But this year I added a beanie (wool hat) and adore it. I also added a $5 thrifted dusky lilac scarf and am enjoying that a lot too.

That's a lovely scarf! It's true that Ted Baker has done a lot for pastels (and florals!). I think "millennial pink" often gets the spotlight, but really there's a pretty big shift toward pastels in general. For menswear in particular I suspect the appeal is in the subversion and the fact that it's unexpected. I think that's why "tomboy" items like the sneakers and the fisherman's cap work so well in soft colours.

I’m feeling like recently there are a lot of options for styling pastels and even pastel prints in a way that doesn’t skew Lily Pulitzer. I think that Ted Baker’s popularity has a lot to do with somewhat more subtle pastels. Wearing this scarf today. It’s a few years old Baker inspired print from a few years ago. I probably should have written down the brand before I removed the tag....

Lovely pastel items. Am sure they look harmonious with your darker items. Mirroring your natural colouring is a great strategy.

Sara L, I have a funny relationship with purples in general, especially lighter ones. I always have a bunch kicking around in my closet, but go off the colour for years at a time. But I tend not to get rid of those items because I almost always come back to them (and a lot of them are gear, so the colour doesn't really matter). I'm going to write up a whole separate post on my accidental light purple capsule...

Adriana, I have dark hair with a smattering of greys too! I do wonder if the appeal has to do with mirroring natural colouring. I always find the full-on pale look so stunning on those with white or platinum hair; on myself I find I need to anchor pale colours with something dark somewhere (although yesterday I wore an all-light outfit and felt great -- the sunlight helps!).

Wow, I love that lilac bag. I've never been particularly drawn to lilac either. I love mint as a color but I can never figure out how to wear it. I've finally decided I need to avoid it in clothing items.

It is contagious. I'm palewaving too. Never had those colors, but now I have warm pale pink and a "watercolor painted" mint jeans jacket.
Maybe because there is grey now in my dark hair.

I think the "new" pastels skew a bit more greyed than earlier incarnations. Or at least I tend to go for the murkier/earthier iterations rather than the candy-sweet ones. The items in Finds are from previous summers -- I've been building this lighter capsule up for quite a while. Brixton has a similar hat this year, but in corduroy! I think it might be part of the NAS.

Nice additions.

I think adding a couple of key accessories that are well used is a smart way to add a new colour.

The pastels in 2018 are much nicer than in the past - or maybe I am just seeing them a different way? The shoes and the hat are my favourite additions!! Love a hat.

I made two purchases this spring/summer that qualify as wild cards. The first was a pair of Adidas Campus sneakers in dusty mint green suede. I have been searching for a pair of truly comfortable fashion sneakers for a long time. We had a long, cool, dry spring this year -- perfect sneaker weather! -- so these have gotten lots of wear. I don't think of myself as an Adidas person, or particularly loyal to any sneaker brand. I haven't owned a pair of Adidas since grade school, when black-and-white Sambas were all the rage. I went a long time without really wearing sneakers casually at all, but this year I really wanted a pair to wear with dresses and skirts!

I also added a lilac canvas circle bag, on deep discount on the Baggu website: https://baggu.com/products/can.....6233709575 My other crossbody bag is black leather, and I've been wanting a lighter, brighter bag for a while. This one is roomy enough, a fun colour and shape, and the price was right! It's become my everyday bag for days when I don't need a large tote or backpack. Added bonus is that 4yo DS adores this bag! :D

I'm having fun mixing these items with handful of other pastel or "palewave" (thanks, cindysmith, for introducing me to that term!) pieces -- see Finds. My clothes skew dark -- lots of olive, denim, black, and navy. I enjoy throwing in some lighter pieces for contrast. I especially like tonal looks -- olive/sage/mint or navy/sky or burgundy/blush. And of course I love these lighter colours as an unexpected pop of colour with black outfits.
