Oh Brooklyn. So so fab. I love how you show us 2-3 looks in succession with the same shirt - it's impactful! You are amazing.
I took notes on the cropping length. I almost never wear tshirts because they hit the widest part of me all wrong and are uncomfortable. And often cropped tees are too short.

You are most certainly set for a long and stylish summer.

(passed out from fabulous new collection of graphic tees)

Seriously though, I can't even pick a favorite, each one is stellar.

I find graphic tees help add interest to summer outfits without having to layer (and with our hot summers in the southern US, layering is NOT happening unless I'm in heavy a/c settings).

Congrats on putting together a superb graphic tee collection!

Momo, I got the classic t-shirt. It’s 100% cotton. No side seams and it rolls well.

ClaraT, I cut mine so that they are about 56-58 cm long from shoulder to hem. They are shorter than that after they roll. When I cut the Redbubble tees I try to maintain a white border at the bottom of the pattern that is a similar size to, or larger than, the white border on the upper side of the pattern. Once or twice I have cut too much off, so that the bottom border looked a bit skinny and it didn’t look right. So I start slow now. You can always cut off more later! Just be mindful that not all cut t-shirts roll (see my earlier comments). If they do roll, they will roll more after washing. Below is the website picture of my peacock tee. I think it’s much better cropped.

And thanks Suz, Bonnie and Janet.

This is really interesting -- the switch from patterned to plain bottoms and the corresponding wish for pattern on top! Fascinating. I have not read all the comments yet but will go back to see if you talk more about what's driving that evolution. In any case, these are all fantastic summer looks and you pick the best graphic tees! I love an arty tee, or one that has special meaning to the wearer. You do such a brilliant job of marrying the colours. Fabulous!

I have several graphic tees that I don’t wear b/c they are too long, and I don’t sew. Cutting them seems a great solution (love your looks!)
May I ask what length you cut your tees to (I am assuming you measure from the shoulder and cut at the same place for all tees?)
The length is just right on you, and I know that the sweet spot might be different for me, but it would give me a starting point for cutting a few non-precious tees and seeing how I like it!

Fun style evolution! I love how you manage to be strategic and methodical but also super creative in your wardrobe approach.

Long summers really do require strategy, I know! I’m grateful ours are not longer than they are — with our humidity, most denim is out of the question for me, with the possible exception of my very lightweight Rag & Bone wide-leg jeans. Although they are now super roomy because I dropped a few pounds. But I’m not mad about that. ;-)

I love graphic tees and have literally dozens. Most are from concerts but also many acquired on travels, etc. They tend to be affordable wearable mementoes. I also started cutting several inches off of the hems of many of my tees — most are super long on my short torso, and they are much more comfortable and flattering this way. I also just let the hems go so they roll a little bit but that doesn’t bother me.

Cat2, I like cotton gauze too. Surprisingly hard to find. I got a couple of tops from H&M this year in cotton muslin, which is similar.

Sal, I’m definitely wearing more colour than I did a few years ago, and lighter colours than I do in winter. Mostly dusty however. And I agree that travel tees make a good souvenir and talking point.

Carol, you can get just about any design you want on Redbubble. It was a bit overwhelming when I went looking.

Lyn67, I think that the planning is a big part of making the season more interesting for me. I can wing it more in winter because there’s so much to love about cool weather fashion.

Firecracker, Allsaints is a go to brand for me. They do prints so well.

Bella, I’ve washed the peacock tee the most because it’s the oldest in the group. So far, so good. But I too have had bad experiences with micro holes, strange spots appearing after washing, and loss of shape. I try not to invest too much in a tee.

Thanks again everyone!

My warm weather discovery has been cotton gauze. It’s not as scratchy as linen, and I like the wrinkles better than linen wrinkles. I stumbled on it by accident; an end of season Caslon dress buy. I now keep an eye out for it.

How fun to see your style evolution. And your rainbow of colours in your skirt closet. I feel as though it’s lighter and brighter than in the past? More blue denim and of course the white.

My most favourite is 5, and I love the Egyptian cat tee as well.

But they are all excellent and a master class in colour and how to wear a graphic tee.

Jon loves a graphic tee and buys them a lot travelling and I do for him too. It’s a fun memento.

Ha ha Jenni, that’s my favourite warm weather skirt too! Love the pattern. And it’s cotton. I even bought a spare in a larger size when it went on clearance - just in case my shape changes or something happens to the first one. My precious :)

Karie, just cutting the hem off is much easier! Just be aware that some tees don’t roll - ribbed tees, tees with elastane, double knit tees.

Such beautiful tees! When my tees are too long I have thought about hemming them (but never got around to actually doing it) and I love the idea of cutting them and letting them roll up. I’ve got to try this! Thanks for the inspiration.

Slimcat, that’s interesting. I prefer 100% cotton to cotton/modal for hot days. Have you tried linen tops? I used to be put off by linen because of the scratchy feel. But I’m a convert now because of my linen skirts. They feel much cooler against my skin than cotton. The fabric really softens with wash and wear. Of course you have to be ok with wrinkles.

Star, no, I don’t overlock. I just cut and put a few stitches in the side seams to prevent them opening up. I have had a few that didn’t roll - hence my questions to chat. But when they roll they look good, IMO.

Angie, yay to style worlds colliding!

Jenni, good memory! I have been gradually phasing out the Zara tops. They feel too short for me now. I like my skirts longer than I did when I bought them and I address that by pushing the skirt down on my hips. That creates a midriff gap with the Zara tops. But 2-3 years for a tee is decent. I find tees fade in the sun, stretch, develop micro holes and develop spots in the wash. Sigh.

I still like patterned skirts and have a decent collection for warm weather. But I’m fussy about both pattern and colour. I can address the latter with DIY dye but not the former. Here is my current collection of warm weather skirts. Mostly solids and most solids are DIY dye.

I always admire your eye for detail and even more your determination to carry through. Those little stitches to hold the roll make such a difference to the whole look. I like how nicely you coordinate the colors of the tees with the bottoms without it looking overly contrived, just right. Also like your slouchy flares/wide legs a lot. Beautiful outfits all around!

For years now am always in awe how very consciously you plan and fullfill your next goals in fashion and style- you leave nothing to the blind chance!

Love your graphic tees and was great to read about the science behind my own reasons why I love mines, too. I probably couldn't articulate it better than you did it, them beeing an "opportunity to bring some more colour, interest and, of course, personality to an outfit" and me also love "prints(...) in colours that go/tone with the colours I generally wear on bottom (...) because that helps to reduce the amount of contrast in the palette".

Loved hearing about how you boss your graphic tees, too! I sew in the sides quite often, and sometimes cut a bigger crew neck on my tees, cutting off length just didn't occured me to date. Oh, and I also love your choice of colors/shades, thanx for the beautiful inspirational outfits- all are perfect and killer to my eyes!

Oh, my goodness, what graphic tee fabulosity. All of these are stellar looks. I am swooning over the burgundy metallic tee with the burgundy bag and blazer in 3 and 4. And another burgundy outfit--the cargos and matching sneakers with the pretty burgundy and pink tee. The peacock tee is so gorgeous, too. I am always on the lookout for graphic tees that appeal to me, and they are rare. I've been tempted by the AllSaints ones, including the striking floral you show here, but I then I remind myself I don't really need another black summer tee. Thanks for introducing me to Redbubble--now I know where to look!

Amazing. More evolution in your style. I remember the last lot of plain tees, all the same sort, I forget where they were from, possibly Zara? I think they might have had a highish neck. I looked back on your old posts especially one from a year ago when you had been 10 years on YLF but sadly you don’t keep photos up.
This might mean you won’t be wearing your beautiful patterned skirts so much? Do your tees wear out in your hot weather? Still such recognisable
Brooklyn style here.
My favourites of these are the peacock tee (I am also keen on peacocks), the metallic tee, the gold and the burgundy. I don’t think I own any graphic tees, but I like these!

I love your graphic t-shirts! All are so fab and look great on you.
I’m more of the solid color myself but adore a good graphic tee on others. Excellent collection!

Thanks everyone!

Angie, thanks! It’s still only spring here. I do wear jeans and cargo pants in spring and autumn. Occasionally summer if it’s cool enough, but that’s rare. It was cool enough in London to wear jeans, despite it being summer (temperatures in early 20s). White is definitely a big change. I think I now how more white tops than black. Imagine! I’m doing some solid white tops too. I have 3 other s/s refresh plans going. No big changes to silhouette. More about colour and vibe. A work in progress. I will report back.

Chris987, see my comment to Angie re jeans. About cutting hems on tees - sometimes they don’t roll. ChatGPT was very helpful identifying for me what makes a tee roll or not. Basically you are looking for a tee that has a tiny v stitch on the front and a tiny purl stitch on the back. If it’s v front and back, it wont roll. The Redbubble tees are great because not only do they roll, they have no side seams. No need to reinforce the side seam after cutting. Easy peasy. I get the classic style. It’s a somewhat heavy cotton. It might be a little too heavy for super hot weather. We’ll see.

I’ll be back later!
