I think a colored trench can be done in a minimalist wardrobe, but it was got to be that signature color that works as a neutral for <i>you</i>. My DIL finally found a Burberry in the right shade of stone-beige after hunting for a couple of years and on a few continents for just the right shade (she gives new meaning to Angie's PPP!) but she looks amazing every time she puts hers on. She was the one who convinced me to buy my trench in an olivey-bronzey shade of khaki that I thought looked terrible in the stone, but is actually exactly the right neutral for my skin tone.
