p.s. I'm not sure if someone asked here, but what are the brands of your cross-body bags, Suz? I love the size AND color of both of them and have been looking for a red one, maybe a bright red. I love cross-body bags. Thanks.

This is a superb travel capsule. Everything mixes so well with each other. I tend to pack light on footwear and bottoms when I travel too. I figure you usually see my top half in photos and when sitting down/most interacting with others anyway so why add to the luggage right? Have a safe and fun trip.

I just saw that you are driving down - but your packing strategy worked out well. And now you have room in the car from any purchases. This could work out!! Hope you get some nice pictures and have fun as NYC tourist.

You've done a brilliant job - I love the combination of the colours, with the pops of the red and yellow bags! I hope you have a lovely time.

I am a terrible packer - it was only reading your post yesterday that I realised it's because I just don't have enough warm (or warmish) weather clothes - I can pack a bag for a weekend away in this country in a heartbeat, but if we are going somewhere warm, I agonise for days and am always unhappy with what I have when I'm there

Having said that, in this case maybe it's a good thing I got it done professionally, given the amount of walkin' THESE boots are going to do! Knowing my luck if I'd done it myself it would probably have fallen apart.

Suz, those look absolutely stunningly gorgeous and comfy *and* detailed to the last dot! I'm beyond impressed, especially after your frustration yesterday. And great idea to have photos so you won't have any last-minute confusion --- I'm always a little woozy the first day or two of travel, and unless I have it written down, end up staring blankly at the suitcase for a few minutes!

This is fantastic, and indeed, as AJ notes, it's nice to know you're covered without having to depend on shopping or new things in the mail!

I KNOW you must be relieved. (I nearly fell asleep on the job yesterday after I had my packing sorted, which was when I realized just how much anxiety and adrenaline I'd been storing up!)

Have a great trip! You should be walking tall and toasty with that lot in your bag!

Aw, thanks Sarah and Vicki! Vicki, the violet top is from BR and is one of their no iron shirts. I got it on sale last year. They have them on sale again but I'm not sure they have that colour. Might be worth checking. I got a petite 2 in that shirt and it works for 5'4" small busted me.

Suz, is your middle name "Angie"??? Your outfits are perfect and I love your staging and want to copy a few of these looks. Also, your Report booties are super stylish and go with so many outfits. What brand is the violet shirt? I really adore that.

Your toppers are diverse and provide such great colors and different looks and yet blend well with your chosen pieces. Everything truly just flows, Suz. This list is a really helpful and a practical guide for so many of us! In fact, I plan on copying a few.

Have fun on your trip and I hope you find that navy pencil skirt! Keep the photos coming when you can. Enjoy!

I just took the shoes to the cobbler and asked him to apply a rubber bottom to the shoe. He checked with me about the colour (he had a sort of pinkish beige that blended well with the sole) and then put it on. I must say he charged me half the price of the booties to do it! I was stunned. But he is the only guy in town and he did a good job, so I didn't complain. In any case it was worth it to me. Now they have the soles, they are waterproofed, and they're good to go! It's actually quite a simple procedure and any shoe repair should be able to do it.

I tend to use the roll method, Makrame. This time I actually compromised between VCs method and that. VC, I did understand what you were talking about (at least generally!) So I did what you suggested for several blouses, a jacket, and the skirt, and put them in a different part of the bag (it has its own semi-garment bag). I didn't include the hangers, simply because I figured I would have enough there, but I am keeping that idea in mind for future trips because I have often been in the position of not having enough hangers when travelling. So I think it is an excellent suggestion.

I like Velvetychocolate's packing idea. I've done some version of that, especially when using garment bags. The other option I used, which I only learned about from this forum, was to roll things up and pack them in large ziploc bags (i.e., an entire outfit or two in a ziploc bag). This really saved room, rolled up things did not seem to get too wrinkled, and I liked the "capsulized" look of everything.

Oh Suz - this is BRILLIANT! I love every single one of your combinations and reading your list, it is so well thought out. I've favourited this post so that if I'm ever packing to go somewhere, I have a starting point with your knowledge.I hope you have a wonderful, wonderful time in NY and that the things you've ordered to greet you there work out perfectly!

Just for clarification - I don't bag each and every outfit at all...I pack all the clunky stuff into the bottom of my suitcase (shoes and so on). Fold up things that don't wrinkle (ie. jeans, socks, camisoles, pj's etc.).

At the end, I've got some stuff on hangers that I've hung up on the shower rod in the washroom...gather those all up and use a single green garbage bag over top of all of them. There might be five or six hangers worth of stuff hanging up - I just poke a hole in the top of a garbage bag (or re-use a drycleaning bag) and cover the whole group of clothes on hangers with the one bag.

Note: I wouldn't do this with nice wooden hangers or even those nicer velvety-coated 'thin' hangers. Just the cheapie plastic tube hangers that you can get for $1-$2 for ten hangers.

Just think of it as getting some drycleaning back - you might have a few hangers' worth of stuff, and the whole lot is covered with a single clear plastic dry-cleaning bag. That's kind of what I do with the stuff I don't want wrinkled/smooshed in my suitcase - leave it to the very end, one bag over top of five/six/ten hangers of stuff, fold in half gently and place in suitcase last.

I'm a bit worried that I didn't explain it all that well. One bag for several outfits hung up on some cheap hangers that you don't mind taking with you. As if it's a drycleaning order that you just brought home. Folding it all gently in half after slipping an old drycleaning bag or garbage bag over top gives you the effect of a garment bag - minimal wrinkles - minimal fuss.

In any case, it sounds like you're well sorted and I hope you have a wonderful trip.
