Marina, you reminded me of a Danish quote that goes something like this "There is no such thing as bad weather, just bad clothes." LOL

Viv, I hope that you enjoy them and get as much use of "sleeves" as I do . :-)

Well, I live in a city where "seasons" make more sense in therms of statics than in reality. We can have mild cold fog at 9am, searing hot Sun at 12pm, thunderstorms at 6pm, cold rain until 9pm and frostbite winds at 12am. A cold summer day has low/high temperatures around 18-24C (64-75F). A hot summer day is more like 22-32C (70-90F). A cold winter day is 10-22C (54-72F) and a hot winter day is 20-30C (68-86F). Low temperatures will fall below 5C (40F) twice or thrice a year (and this can happens on winter or mid seasons) and higher temperatures will surpass 35C (95F) twice or thrice a year (this can happens on summer or mid seasons). Only thing we know for sure when it comes to weather and clothes is that no matter what you wear, it wont work.

On the bright side, I don't really have winter/spring/summer/autumn capsules. I get to use most of my clothes all year, just layering them in different ways.

Isabel, you seem to have the perfect wardrobe for crazy weather. Actually many pieces that you mention are my wardrobe holes. Funny gloves!

Viva, thank you! Well, at the end of it all crazy weather may be annoying, but let's say that it helps us to be creative!

Like Angie, I LOVE Spring too. Unlike Angie and more like you, it is a VERY difficult time to dress. I live in the Northeast. It is always difficult. Sometimes it is just rain, rain, rain. Sometimes it is humid and hot and rainy. Sometimes it is cold and rainy. Sometimes it is warm and sunny...well, you get the picture.

I was just thinking yesterday that a bright colored wool coat and a lightweight cashmere wrap are wonderful for this time of year. BUT, when it is 15 degrees with windchill one has no choice except to bundle up like Winter.

I layer a ton. Move onto lightweight merino wool and cashmere wraps and silk scarves with more vibrant color. I also have a couple of wool hats in more "springy" color. I use merino wool t shirts or camis as under garments. They keep me warm but do really well in hot weather by wicking away sweat. I also switch to cardigans because they are easier to take on an off. I add vests. And I get the elbow length fingerless gloves that I wear as "sleeves" for extra warmth but are easy to take off.

https://www.amazon.com/SAMGOO-.....F8&qi

I have them in gray, black and navy. Good Luck.

Right, Suz. Lightweight pullovers are the best. I only own one navy pullover in the perfect weight for Spring (it's a merino wool) , and despite it shows the signs of its intense career, I continue to wear it. I have not found yet the perfect replacement.

I hear you and know what you mean -- the fluctuations are so tricky to deal with.

In March I put away the puffer coat (except my lighter, brighter one for walking if the temps are really poor). This is when the wool coats and the trench begin to take over. I layer under these for warmth depending on the day. A scarf, gloves, and hat can be helpful in my climate.

I also own two cashmere sweaters in "spring-like" tones to boost my mood on days when it is still too cold to wear true spring clothing. \

Our springs are terribly short -- almost nonexistent -- so I pretty much focus on winter clothes and summer clothes, but I did learn that a few mid weight items are key to surviving mid-temps!

I hate spring. I shouldn't say that, but I do. I hate the weather fluctuations - I'm either too hot or too cold. Also, spring is typically windy here and I just hate the wind. Days that would be beautiful otherwise - 70 degree temps, blue skies, are ruined by 30 mph winds.

Like others - I dress in layers (but I'm still either slightly chilly in the morning or slightly hot in the afternoon) and watch the weather constantly. It's supposed to be 80 degrees today and only 64 tomorrow.

Thank you so much for your comments! I enjoyed reading them and I got some inspiration.

Angie, what a beautiful Spring collection! I love that white overcoat. I am just looking for a white overcoat - it is one of my (numerous) "unicorns". :)

Analyzing the situation, I have realized that I make some typical mistakes during the transitional season. In addition, I lack some strategic pieces. I have to ponder.

Ledonna, you made me laugh with the "bipolar " weather! Well said!

I agree also. Our spring is very unpredictable as well. And because I always have more summer clothes I want to start wearing them, but often get caught out!!

I agree. It's the variation of daytime temperatures that makes it a tricky season. I wear soft layers in early autumn or late spring (a cardigan that can easily be put in my handbag) and harder, heavier layers (jacket or jacket+cardi) in late autumn and early spring. I tend to err on the side of wearing short sleeve or sleeveless tops and layering over, that way I can always cool off by removing layers, if necessary.

I agree, but I love spring because I'm a gardener and I go nuts.
I hate shivering g in the morning so I do add scarves and have some lighter weight coats.
Then I have to remember the air conditioning is still very cold even when afternoon temps bump up to 85 - I tend to forget and wear woven blouses that are not enough in a/c. Need indoor layers or lightweight merino.

I'm with Lisa. I'd rather lighten up and be a little chilly than wear too-heavy clothes and feel hot. But I'm also at that age where I seem to create my own heat more than I used to.

I like spring but it's a short season for my climate (even shorter when I'm in TX, where I am now sweating in 80 degree temps on a walk). I don't get much wear out of "spring" clothes per se. I'm better off investing in summer wear and adding a jacket and some closed toe shoes for the more truly transitional days.

We had a 20 degree swing the other day . My theory is - it's now spring, and puffers and fur and clumpy boots and thick sweaters and all other assorted winter detritus just looks wrong now. The light is so different too . Layers for me - and I can put up with feeling a little chilly if need be. I hate being overdressed and hot. I love spring - not the clothes necessarily , but the idea of the season in general.

Zoiechic, Lisa, Ryce - yes, layers are the solution, but it can be troublesome when you are out and about. Where do you put them once that you have removed them? A bag can not be enough for, say, a woolen pullover. I was thinking of a dressy backpack.

Jenni - I thought that New Zealand was more consistent weather-wise! I see it is not so.

Jaileen, Lisa - those are crazy temperature swings! Wow.

On certain mornings I do look at the weather forecast, but you know, the same temperature can feel different depending on humidity, wind ... I just think it is a lost battle.

All that said, I agree with Angie - despite all this, I love Spring and Spring clothes!

This is more af an issue for me in fall than spring, but I think the strategies can be the same. I look at the hourly weather forcast and plan my clothing for what the temp will be in the middle of the day, or the part of the day that I expect to be out and about. I'd much rather be a bit cool in the morning than get sweaty in the afternoon. And I focus on using smaller items for warmth, like a scarf around the neck and even gloves, which make me comfortable enough in " too light" clothing. As the day warms up, the scarf can be tied on my bag and the gloves go in a pocket or the bag. I also don't get as hot if my feet can breath, so I might wear footless tights or above ankle pants with open toes booties or slip on sneaks.

Also, I pay very close attention to the forecast. After such warm weather last week, we're expecting some snow later this week. Yes, it's crazy.

I am with you, my area runs from 36F as the high one day and 66F as the high the next. It drives me batty. My solution is layers, lots of layers. But unlike my winter layering where I layer thermals and fleece, in the spring I layer lighter materials. For example today I'm wearing a tank top, with a flannel over it, then a 3/4 sleeve cardigan, and finally a leather jacket.

Yes I have this same problem. Last week we had two days where the temperature swing was over 40 degrees (35 to 77) in the same day! I tend to dress for somewhere just below the max, and shiver a bit in the morning, even with a jacket.

Love your rant! Our whole summer was like that. Jackets and cardies on, off, on, off...
