Sorry you struck out on the shopping - but it's early in the spring capsule phase and I'm sure the perfect item will come along.

Your brown faux leather jacket is a perfect topper! And I love the combination of brown with both teal and magenta - would definitely work in your capsule(s).

Well I struck out. I tried on a few dresses but the coral I really liked before was a touch roomy in the size I had tried and the smaller one was just a touch snug in the butt region. I would have had to have the shoulders taken up too. I may go back when I'm down a few more pounds. I also tried on a few pairs of pants in browns and black. I didn't see any navy I liked. Struck out on skirts too.

Mo, I keep forgetting to charge the battery for my camera. I will try to do that and take pics of each grouping this week. I agree with you that it is easier if you can see pics.

I have to admit, I have a hard time following along without pictures (I must be more visual than I thought) but agree with Vix's comment about choc brown with rose colors. It's a beautifully rich combination.

Thanks Christianne. I do have a denim pencil that I should dig out. It might work in a few weeks.

Vix. thanks for the pics. I love the aqua with brown. I have one brown skirt but its a bit short to not have tights so I will keep that in mind while I shop.

Vix, thank you so much. You reminded me of a brown faux leather jacket. I might be able to incorporate it into the mix as an extra topper. This is it last year with white jeans.

I think it would work with the pinks and teals too. I will be on the lookout for a brown or tobacco colored skirt and see what I find.

I am obsessed with capsules right now - sounds like you did great hunting in your closet. It all sort of pops out of you when you really everything out doesn't it?

Dark denim skirt might be just the thing to bridge the two capsules and carry you through a size down or two. The great thing about the shoes you have is that they work with black/blue and other neutrals.

What about looking in to some consignment or good thrift stores? If you aren't paying much, it might be a place to find another pair of pants or skirt to be bridge items.

Hi Dianthus ---

My color-color capsules are about 95% in the rose/purple/blue family (cool greens are another favorite).

Love the sound of what you have planned but I would be lost without my chocolate/espresso items. I actually prefer wearing deep browns vs black with all those shades (though I do wear them with black, especially if I have a patterned top). Something to consider?

When it warms up I especially like wearing dove to charcoal grey with those shades, so think you'll find that very versatile.

I'm not a huge fan of navy for myself in work separates (the whole flight attendant thing) -- and usually end up wearing the colors with dark denim. But navy is definitely great for the shades you're looking at, as is the olive you mentioned wanting in a leather jacket. I'm still trying to replace a pair of super-versatile olive pants and if you see some I would give serious thought to picking those over navy.

Warmer months are always a little weird for me because I've realized I feel unbalanced with lighter pants on the bottom (brunette here) but lighter skirts + exposed legs feel "right." Don't know if you share that but thought I'd throw it out there since your capsule will be working hard for you.

Whether pants or skirts I think you'll find pale neutrals like grey, pewter, light moss, stone, or cream/white are all great partners for your tops.

Good luck with the hunt!

ETA just saw your comment about wanting skirts/dresses over pants due to weight loss. I'm generally a non-belter, but I have worn some looser silk tops or tanks over closer-fitting dresses without dying of heat prostration. Maybe be something to keep in mind while looking?

Thank you all for the suggestions.

Michelle, I do have quite a few white button fronts and you reminded me that I have a cream lace top that I bought last summer. I can layer it over a colored cami for another look in either capsule. I have a deep teal fitted tank style cami that should be perfect and it will add texture and pattern.

Makrame, I am a flat from the side hourglass (little protrusion in chest or butt) so I try to keep clothes fairly close to the body without being tight. I have a skirt that may be a bit snug now that has volume and pattern. I will try it with the pieces. I am trying not to buy pants now as they won't fit when I finish my weight loss (10-12 lbs to go). I will keep my eye out for a wider leg pant though.

Shannon/Suz, I will be on the lookout for a navy skirt. I do have a few patterned skirts but again they are a few pounds too small right now. I also have the two halogen pencils that might work with some of the pieces. I had the magenta hanging with the Joie silk one day and thought they looked great together.

Thanks Jayne. I saw a nice grey jacket on the website of a local store and it is close to the shop that had the coral dress.

I forgot about the dresses but I bought a blue/black/white striped dress yesterday and have a nice tailored navy dress as well as a few others including a black sheath and a black shirt dress.

I just got back from the gym and plan to shower and be on my way shopping within the hour. I will report back on the shopping adventure.

Dang, Suz and Shannon beat me to the navy idea. Navy and rose and navy and teal are great together. So if you already have deep blues you might have the bottoms you need.

Like the idea of a grey leather jacket to go with both also, grey and rose is awesom!

I am no good at shoes, sorry

These sound really lovely, Dianthus!

For capsule 1, I wondered about a skirt in a different shape, perhaps thinking along Makrame's line (only she was thinking of pants)...something to work with closer fitting tops in the capsule. Another thought I had was that it might be fun to introduce even more colour here, via a bright pencil (or other) skirt or even a skirt with some pattern, since most of the tops here are solids. I have no idea if they have any colours that would work, but examples: http://www.jcrew.com/womens_category/skirts.jsp

I also think a navy skirt would work really well with both capsules.

This sounds really good and you've obviously done your home work. I think adding a navy skirt to both capsules will finish off your bottoms portion. Navy works equally well with the aqua colours and with the rose colours. There's also the idea of a dark wash denim skirt - this could provide a more casual vibe to either capsule if that would work for you.

I think a grey leather topper is a fab idea - again, can work with both capsules. But keep in mind our weather is already hot so you'll want to find one that isn't too heavy or thick.

Other than that, I think you are well on your way!

These ideas sound great! Sounds like you have wonderful combinations for you capsules.

For the first capsule, do these tops look best with non-voluminous bottoms? I know that the Joie tunic is pretty long and works best with straight or slim pants and skirts, what about the twinset and other tops? The reason I am asking is because based on my preferences, I would maybe add wide-leg trousers in a dark color (maybe black) if you need another bottom. Sometimes with slimmer tops (like a fitted twinset), I feel like adding volume on the bottom).

How are you doing on lightweight toppers for the second capsule? You have a couple of sleeveless tops - would you need another lightweight topper (like a cotton blend jacket?) for those, to alternate with the cardigan? I find that I cannot use jackets (like leather jackets) as my indoor toppers because I get too hot but sleeveless is usually too cold. Again, could be a personal preference.

Dianthus, it sounds to me like you're well on your way! These all sound fabulous.
I agree that a patterned blouse in either of your colour capsules would be a great addition. The other thing that jumped out at me was the lack of white/cream. Are you averse to those colours? If not, I bet they'd work marvellously with both colour schemes and be a perfect nod to the season you're trying to dress for. Maybe a white denim jacket as an inexpensive topper? More practically, I'd suggest a light-coloured pair of jeans or skirt, particularly for your first capsule.
Grey leather jacket sounds fun. Or a cream one.

Have fun! I'm going through the same process right now - it's kind of enjoyable, no?

I have re-read the capsule blog and every comment a few times and am going to try to put together two using mostly pieces I own and some fillers and would love opinions on the plan and advice from you fashionable ladies.

I love teal/aqua and rose. I also like deep rich blues and some purples so am thinking of two capsules with a few bottoms that play in both.

I have a black skirt suit that is of fairly good quality that fits at my current weight and will for a month or two so I will add it to the first capsule.

Capsule 1 teal/aqua/blue

Five Tops
I bought a deep aqua twinset in a silk blend knit yesterday even though it wasn't a popular idea. I will count it as one even though it can be split into a shell and topper.
I was using this as inspiration.
http://www.anntaylor.com/ann/o.....036/272005

I have the Joie silk tunic in a teal/aqua color I love (my avatar).
I have two white button fronts: one has a twist detail and the other a ruffle detail.
I have a black tie neck top very similar to the one in the blog.
I may have to find a print - not sure I have one that would fill in the capsule.

Three bottoms:
black pencil skirt from suit
grey straight leg pants
I have a few skirts that fit but am not sure they work with the palette so I may need one more bottom. Suggestions??

Two toppers
black suit jacket from suit
I am going to look for a spring leather topper today. Not sure the color but was thinking maybe a soft grey. Suggestions??

Two shoes
soft greyish green wedge
taupe pointy toe flat
(I have a pair of nude heels but will see if my feet like heels this summer)

Handbag
I have a taupe structured bag that should work.

Capsule 2
Rose/Coral
Five Tops
BR deep rose silk rolled neck sleeveless top
Deep dusty rose satin sleeveless top (AT) with petal detail
stone soft shirt with camp style button sleeves
black brooks brothers ruffle neck shirt
white short sleeved AT button front.

Bottoms
grey pin striped JC pencil skirt
May need to look for another neutral skirt. stone? navy?
Black skirt from suit

Toppers
grey cardigan with open weave front
olive green leather jacket (similar style to the one in Angie's capsule)

Shoes
peanut colored wedge with wood heel and gold chain detail on toe
nude flat

Handbag
I have quite a collection including a purple Matt & Natt day clutch and a deep bright blue slouchy and ...

Any thoughts/suggestions/comments?
