Sorry, Sisi. Knit tops are not tees or knitwear. They are tops made of jersey knits and more styled than a tee. These are knit tops. Not necessarily for you. Just showing an assortment:

Thank you all!

A lot of interesting suggestions. Many of you mention oxfords and perforated or cutout booties for Spring. This is exactly what I would like to find. A couple weeks ago I spotted a beautiful pair of cream perforated booties but alas! the heel was too high. I will continue the hunt.

Angie and Others who mention knit tops - sorry, I am not English mother tongue and I am not sure of what you mean. I translate with "t-shirt" or "tee" the Italian word that I would use to describe Suz's white and red BR "sweaters" .... Are those knit tops?

I immediately thought of elevating the t-shirt component of your formula with blouses ... I also think there are a lot of new necklines and styles of t (e.g. ribbing, square necks, puffed shoulders, etc.) that you could use to make the look feel fresh.

I hear you about this transitional weather being the hardest to dress for. At least for me spring time is the hardest to figure out what to put and feel both season and temperature adequate. My office doesn’t have a dress code either, but I have developed the following formula:
- long sleeve top - either knit top with some interest (interesting cut or interesting color), or button down shirt/blouse (some of mine have unusual cuts as well), or thin sweater
- smart trousers - again prefer those with either some pattern (stripes, checks), or color, or interesting detail (wrap over cut, pockets at unusual places)
- jacket - have two leather jackets, several blazers and some knit jackets. The light colored ones get more wear in the spring. Last year found a printed relaxed fit blazer that became a workhorse - the abstract print made it more casual than a check blazer would have been but it was still more elevated than a sweater or a cardigan
- closed toe shoes if its 15C, peep toe cut outs if it’s 20C. This is the hardest one for me in spring - want shoes in lighter colors but it’s hard to find ones that tick all the boxes. So far what I’m wearing is ankle boots in light colors (have burnt orange and gray), brogues (one in blush, one in white&cognac), fashion sneakers in beige or blue, cut out shoes in blush or olive.
What I find is that the shoes are mostly what sets the tone of an outfit - a blazer and pants ensemble feels much more in place for a casual office if paired with fashion sneakers. Another way for me to find the not-too-casual balance is to add one very trendy element to the outfit - this again could be the fashion sneakers, or top in an usual cut, or fashion forward color combination. This way a simple combination feels more elevated than if I’m wearing the basic options.
Hope that gives you some ideas how to evolve your spring style.

The temps you describe are what we have here during spring too, and yes, it can be chilly. I like to wear short-sleeved sweaters with either a pattern or some kind of texture (Anthro had some cute fuzzy ones last year), and then I wear a lightweight jacket on top (leather or denim). I add a scarf when appropriate.

For bottoms, I usually wear jeans with booties. If I am wearing cropped jeans and a bit of ankle is showing, I will wear nude knee-highs so that I don't freeze. On days when it is a bit warmer, but still not warm enough for totally exposed flesh, I may wear an open-toed bootie with nude fishnet knee-highs. Fishnets are surprisingly warm!

I also like to wear knit skirts in spring with tights (either opaque or fishnet, depending on the temperature) and knee-high boots.

Spring here can be long and sometimes rainy (early part) or sunny and warm (later part). Some items I would wear in earlier (cool) spring in the Finds. I layer....

Note, I work from home mostly so don't have the office wear issue. So I don't have a lot to show, but still...you get the idea. A lot is about fabric weight and texture.

Closed toe flat shoes. I use loafers, ballet flats, sneakers, even oxfords with light weight socks or nylon knee highs.
Spring is a time I use a few polyester woven blouses as they are warmer than cotton and easy care.
I will wear pull on pants and skirts rather than jeans these days, and a variety of toppers, light weight jackets, long linen knit cardigans, ponchos and silk kimono jackets. Some of these are useful indoors in the summer.
A cotton or silk knit tank is usually a base layer.

Your spring temperatures sound like my summer temperatures. :-)

A few suggestions:
● Shortsleeved knit/knitted tops + bomber jackets
● Longsleeved blouses/pullovers + beautiful woven (solid or patterned) shawls
● Loafer hybrids in light colours

Spring here is short, and most of the season is too wet and cold for much change from winter. This winter is mild, so I expect spring to be more of the same, but we will see. One craves a change because of the light, as stated above. I like to keep a few lighter color sweaters and tops for this purpose, even if they are warm.

I second the suggestion of fine-gauge knits. There are also merino tees at places like BR, which you can layer over.

Switching to blazers and non-boot shoes (as weather allows for the latter) is also helpful. Or perforated booties, or booties with open sides.

Look at how a store like Nordstrom is styling things for spring in stock photos. It gives you ideas along with the examples of kinds of styles that will be prevalent on the racks right now.

Mules or loafers would be stylish - or smart lace ups. A light jacket, knit tops that are not tee shirts?

Spring for me is about layering and the wind and rain. It is an unpredictable season. But I want to get out of the winter clothes and into something more fresh.

I have a long sleeve blouse that I wear in spring and not often the rest of the year. It is warmer than it looks and feels joyful on a crisp day and I sometimes wear a layer underneath.

If you run cold, fine gauge knits instead of a tee may be a good option. Shoe-wise, sneakers are big right now, if you could make those work for your environment. Joggers and other looser pants, too.

Sisi, my office doesn’t have a dress code either. But I’m maybe a bit old fashioned. I like to wear jeans with a coat or a jacket, oxfords or low heel pumps so I don’t look like I’m on a run to a grocery store :)
I like how below the knee cardigans look elegant and can be paired with anything. I got one from BR. Instead of t-shirts I wear short sleeves thin sweaters or silk woven t-shirts under cardigans and blazers, looks a bit more dressier. I wear snickers to work sometimes but only with dress pants.

I generally wear long sleeved blouses with cropped length pants and a closed toe shoe. I prefer loafers, oxfords, booties - shoes that will be too hot in the middle of summer and are too cold with mid-winter.

Well, it depends on your lifestyle. I had a goal last year to build up my spring/fall outwear collection as I need more options for 5 days a week work in the office. I bought 2 cotton coats, a wool long vest, a linen blazer and leather jackets in addition to my soft jackets and a black blazer.

Dear Fabbers

I need your wisdom. I must replenish my Spring capsule, I have remained with very few things left. Think temps in the 15-20 C range (60-68 F, that feels chilly to me).

I would like to try something different from my usual formula but I am in a stuck. In Spring I generally wear a cotton tee + a cardigan or soft jacket, or a lightweight wool sweater. What else could I wear?

For what concerns footwear in the last few years I have had the ballet flat period then the slip-on period and finally the moccasin period. Now what? Oxfords? Light Spring booties?

Suggestions are welcome! Thank you.
