I can see how they would be safer in that respect. I've never been on on horse, but DD used to ride when we lived in Germany and Texas. She was thrown once and we were so thankful for for her helmet when we saw the dent left in it by the horse's hoof. We were careful with the ATV's and had a guide to lead us on the trails, which more rugged than I expected. We also wore long pants and gloves. The helmets were pretty substantial and came down to cover our ears. I was glad we all had on sunglasses, as there were lots of low hanging branches. </p> <p>We are off this morning for Admitted Student's Day at my son's future college. That should be a whole different type of experience!
