I think the second pair might work if you take the split higher. Worth a try. The first pair looks good.
Interesting, it kind of turns your straight leg jeans into baby bootcut jeans, don’t you think? I always liked the idea of baby bootcuts but I could never get the flared part to sit right on my boots. It would always end up bunching up. This solves the problem.

I noticed on the picture Carla attached, the inside seam is split, not the outside. Maybe you could try that on the second (blue) pair?

My favorite is the first pair with the flats

Pics 1/2 are in a grey area for me. I prefer mine longer, but they certainly don't look like floods to me either.

They are kick-a$$ with those metallic pink flats

The pants are keepers.

Carla, same here -- height and inseam! I need tall lengths when available, and then can hem maybe 1/2" to an inch, depending. I have some of those shorter ankle length pants, but prefer them to be narrow, and even then I often wear them with booties to disguise the length and create a longer line.

Janet, the split hem trend seems to be across all pant leg lengths. There seem to be just as many cropped versions as long versions. Victoria Beckham was showing them for S/S 2019 RTW - though Celine did their version in 2016.

Like you, PPL is a sore spot. At 5ft 7in I'm not a true tall, however 30in inseams are crops on me and 32 are ankle amd 34 are 'flood'. I had a pair of jeans that I extended with a strip of plaid. I wonder of that trend will make a comeback? And the Bay City Rollers, too!

I like the dark ones just fine as you've styled them. Try cropping the lighter ones (or pass on them if they are uncomfortable.)

Ha . I know , I didnt articulate that well at all . I was referring to the slit itself , not the trend in general . Regardless - I vote for the black pair

I agree the looser leg fit on the black ones works better.

As for the trend itself, well, what trend IS necessary? Why is this any less necessary than, say, cropped flares, or floor-sweeping flares? Just playing devil's advocate. I figured I'd try it on some old straight-leg jeans that I always had trouble styling. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. I can donate if they don't work.

The black ones look to be a better fit on you and the leg hangs a bit nicer. I'm not particularly in love with the slit side , or front for that matter, trend though - just seems unnecessary, if that makes sense?

So, it sounds like the black ones are worth keeping and wearing with flats or low-contrast footwear.

Should I give away the COH jeans (the blue ones)? Or try them again with a higher split and low-contrast footwear? I have plenty of jeans, so don't be shy about telling me if I should just let those go. They're a little snug right now and don't have much stretch, so not exactly favorites.

Well... no expert here, but I do have an opinion :)

I like the first pair. Angie may say they are short, but to me that length looks good with how the pants break in the front, and having a bit of "air" at the heel looks fine to my eye with this length... and is also more practical. I like skimming the ground when the leg is wider and fuller, but am fine with this on a narrower leg.

Something is off with the second pair. I think they are maybe skinnier? Or is it different boots? They are just not falling as nicely. This could be rectified by raising the split. What do you think of the idea of having the front shorter than the back? didn't AG do that with her jeans at one point? Not sure it's "you", but it is an option...

I’m terrible at ppl, but like both of these. I think the COH needs more of a split to hang properly. I will say that the longer the better after looking at Angie’s bootcuts. Do you have a lower heeled shoefor the first pair. Or maybe sneakers a la the new trend with bootcuts?

In optimistic anticipation of cooler weather, I decided to pull out all of my jeans and try them on. A couple of pairs had gone in the donate pile, which is good, but I have a question now.

I love the look of the split hem trend, and I DIYed this old pair of Kuts (I think they’re 8 years old??) to release the hem and split the sides, thinking it might make them a bit more current and wearable — I hadn’t really worn them in years as the straight leg style they were.

Trying them on now with a low-heeled pair of boots (the way I’d be most likely to wear them), I wonder if this length looks ok, or do they look too short? I’m really sensitive to too-short jeans since I’ve lived a lifetime of avoiding the “flood” look.

I’m also including a photo of some COH straight legs I also did a DIY split hem on. I’m thinking the split needs to be higher, but again, what about the length?

What is PPL when it comes to these new hem styles?
