Recently on a patio a persistent wasp was bugging our table and the one next to us. The woman at that table was freaking out and would keep batting the wasp about, often over to me. Then she'd watch while I went all zen while it buzzed around my face. I can remember what part of a page a sentence is on, too. And I also have not the best <i>general</i> memory. I'm absentminded and forgetful. People make jokes about it. Often. It's actually embarrassing.&nbsp;I'm pretty sure that when I'm a granny and I&nbsp;get dementia, no one's even going to notice. :-)</p> <p>I'm quite good at academic stuff, though. I'm an A student. But if I don't use the information after the exam, it just falls right out of my head.</p> <p>I don't think I have any real superpowers. I'm merely OK&nbsp;at a whole lot of things -- running, singing, dancing, playing piano,&nbsp;sporty things that involve coordination, all that kind of stuff.&nbsp;I <i>am</i>&nbsp;good at drawing, like I said, and also painting and sculpture. Lots of people are, though.&nbsp;When I write, I know where the punctuation goes, and&nbsp;I'm good at spelling&nbsp;(probably a quirk of visual memory again -- when I say words, I also "see" them in my head). People always give me their cover letters to edit.&nbsp;And I'm nice. I really am. I'm sure I seem strident and opinionated on this forum, but in real life, I'm warm and funny and <i>nice</i>. I talk/rant a lot, and can be a bit incoherent at times, but then I say *it* and the other person smiles or even laughs, and I know I did it. I used to do that all the time when I was reading dialogues to my students, which always cracked them up. For the same reason, I am good at imitating other accents and famous characters. I've been told many, many times that my English accent doesn't sound Spanish at all, and that's because I can reproduce sounds I am not used to hear.&nbsp;</p> <p>I have a strange visual memory. My memory sucks (really, really sucks) but I know what part of a page a sentence from a book occupies.&nbsp;</p> <p>My really bad memory makes me an extremely forgiving person. I forgive and forget, and I am not resentful at all. Which is nice but dangerous sometimes, since I end up forgetting why I got mad at certain people and can't notice repetitive patterns in behaviour unless someone else points at them for me. I share a power with Una. I'm pretty darn good at "name that tune." I have a quite good auditory memory. My nickname at my college radio station was Captain Segue because I could quickly find a song that would sound perfect after the song that was playing. A skill I still have, but a dying art, as most music radio these days is now pre-programmed. I also have a good sense of rhythm -- too bad I didn't pick up a bass guitar earlier in life, I think I would have been good at it. </p> <p>It's hard for me to come up with a true superpower though. I feel like I've always been a little bit good at a lot of things, but not outstandingly awesome at any one. Photography comes the closest.
