Yes, Jody (Adelfa), I think I will ultimately have my optometrist oversee the filling of my Rx after buying frames elsewhere. It was interesting to watch her process as I pointed out that my current specs have an Rx that's older than the sunglasses I bought last year. It made her rethink how much of a prism she wanted to put in and how much change would make me comfortable. My reading/computer glasses have quite a prism, but putting a prism in the regular glasses would probably have my eyes go wonky and weaker.

Anyone know how long COBRA lasts? I think our eye benefits are under COBRA so maybe they expire after 18 months? As in July for me.

Echoing Janet, so very nice to see you! You have great hair and amazing bone structure in your face. So attractive!

Taking a minute to commiserate about the Asian nose thing.... I'm quite a big part Native American, which of course is Asian. The plastic frames trend is really a problem, so few have the nose pads!

This is what I believe about glasses frames color: you (everyone) will be happiest, by far, in frames that are the color of your hair. With your lovely salt-and-pepper hair, I so want to see you in frames that are the color of hematite. A deep gunmetal gray. I also love the idea of black-and-white.

To me, turquoise and brown is too warm for your coloring.

I went to 6 glasses stores to find my frames, and ended up buying just the frames from Warby Parker and letting my trusty optometrist do the lenses. Didn't trust progressives online, as I know from experience that they are art as well as science, and twice (in 16 years) I'd had to have them redone.

Good luck! Enjoy the journey!

The plastic frames look terrific! Did you notice what the width was? It would be like a 49, 50, 52.....I found frames at Costco that rock and cost way less than than the last pair I got several years ago. I also like the color contrast. Great look on you!

I haven't read the other comments yet, but I like #3 best - do they come in a wider frame? Lucky you, you can handle a wider frame - I'm always needing to go narrower.

Thanks, everyone!!! I think there's a b'n'm Warby Parker in SF, and I think I clipped an article (somewhere!!!) on a company that specialized in frames for Asian noses. Off to search some more. . .with a camera and probably DH to take pics. I mean, isn't that why he retired? <gr>

I too think you could carry off a more architectural frame, something more bold.
You can do the colour, but I think trying on some patterned ones in black and white might be interesting. Even Walmart has some good ones in that colourway.
Have progressive lenses also, and tried on the Warby Parkers in real life. Not bad, and the green tortoiseshells are under consideration. Their site is hard to use, IMHO, but if you can make it to a bricks and mortar store (or bus, in Austin) it is worth looking at.

I think these frames are too small for your face. I would also like to see some stronger frames on you. Maybe a deep blue or green. Please try various shapes, square, round, oval, etc. Then we can get a better idea of what shape you wear best.
It may be difficult, especially if you are used to the same style for years, but in the long run you will get a better idea of how different shapes look.

Donna, you look great in your closeups! I like your haircut, too.
I like the new frame choice better than your current pair--I think it looks more current, and it seems to frame your beautiful eyes better. I like the brown/blue (in your original post) better than the violet that you show in the photo you added below. It's hard to know if these are a 10/10, because I don't know what you are choosing from. I think they are very flattering.
I have one hesitation: Angie advises to get glasses that lift a little at the corners (especially at the lower corner, if I understand her guidance correctly), and these don't quite do that. Your current pair actually does do that, though, and I like the potential new ones here better, so I don't really know how critical "lift" is. Or maybe the new ones do lift, and I don't see it?

I like the brown/aqua frames, but them I'm biased because I think I own those very same glasses. I'm wearing a brown/aqua Prodesign pair. My experience is that most people don't notice the turquoise in the glasses because it isn't very visible from the front. A friend I see regularly didn't notice for months that the glasses had any turquoise. I still like the glasses, though I think I might get something bolder for my next pair.

Of the ones you show us, I like the violet and salmon best, although I realize that the color isn't correct in the photo.

I think you wear color very well and the colors look good on you but I agree that they might be too distracting. I like the brown and I think they're a significant improvement over the glasses you have now but I'm hoping Angie will answer this. I feel like there's something else you could try too, but I don't think it's color.

Actually, I didn't post the violet frames at all. Here they are, but the color in the pic does not show that they are a very cool blue violet. For whatever reason, none of the pics the guy took show the inside color. I believe the tomato red frames are red on the outside, so the red would rim my eyes.

I like the violet on you best. I am not fond of the blue on you, at least not that color of blue. Seeing the tomato red frames would be helpful. Because the color is to the side rather than around your eyes, I don't think people will see the glasses before you if it is a striking color. Red could be great as long as you like the color.

So now you get to see what I look like!

The first two photos are my current specs; the side view is to show how thick they are even with high index len$e$. I pretty much need silicone nose pads to get my glasses to stay up, so my choices in plastic frames are pretty limited. With all the stuff I need in my Rx, glasses tend to run me over $750 even with insurance, and these will be more because I will have to pay 100% for the $240 + tax frames. These need to be 10/10 for me to get them.

These frames are dark brown on the outside and turquoise/aqua on the inside. I rarely wear brown, but my eyes are brown. I can wear turquoise/aqua but I don't; if I wear blue it is not that warm but definitely not a cool blue.

These specs also come in other colors: Violet w/salmon; black w/white; tomato red w/white. They only had the violet in stock, but the color doesn't read properly on my monitor. I can wear tomato red but I was worried that one would see only the frames and not me. I wear a lot of gray and black'n'white, but somehow felt that black frames would be predictable. And harsh.

I've just started the search. Dunno how to use Warby Parker. I need 20mm below my eyes to fit the progressive part of my progressive lenses.

Please weigh in. Thanks for any and all opinions!!!
