The main reservation I have about this white one is the straight line cut of the bottom. I personally prefer a more curved "cutaway" look (or whatever it's called) as it seems more universally flattering. That said, it's not a deal breaker to me - it would depend on the comfort factor, rather it's lined with poly, etc. In my dream world I would find perfect cotton blend blazers that were unlined but still magically held their shape and were designed in modern cuts that fit to flatter. I never find those. sigh.

I like it from what I can see, but honestly, I think better photos and seeing it styled and Rae-ified will give this jacket a more fair shot of evaluating. Right now it's kind of tough to tell with the dim lighting and the running shorts.

I do like the white blazer. The lovely fabbers have covered a lot of ground and the only thing I will add is that I like how different the shape of this one is from the black blazer. If I were thinking in terms of my own closet, I would be hoping for an item that was different enough in terms of color and shape from other items I already own.

Rae- I think styling and steaming will provide your answer. I agree with others, that you can wear either well. I get the budget preferences and think the blazer looks like a good fit in the photo, especially if you plan to wear it mostly with pants. The question is will this always feel like "not quite it" or will tweaking make it a favorite. I have played these kind of dilemmas both ways. Sometimes, I find that the original goal is long forgotten and the better priced item completely fits the bill, and other times I have found that I don't gravitate to the substitute and worse, still want something with the features of the original item. Good luck with your decision.

Although it is classic, I would work with this babe, styling, steaming, walking it through ways to make it more my own...I guess what I am saying is I wouldn't give up yet...Give it more of a chance...

It's a nice jacket and it fits well but it is kind of a big jacket, I think. If you found a fit similar to the black one but in white I would say keep it. Of course, if you need the white one and have use for it, it's a different story. It can do the job but does not seem like fun.
Sorry... That's what I think.

On the thread about canaries in the mine shaft, a few people mentioned that one of the reasons they choose not to buy something is that it will take wears away from another, similar item in their closet. Can you see yourself reaching for this blazer over a different topper that you already own? Is it OK if wearing this blazer takes opportunities away for wearing other toppers that you already have?

Good questions, ladies, and thanks for asking them. Well, I am not willing to pay full price for any Theory blazer, so that question's hard to gauge. With the sleeves scrunched, I like it as well as I like my black Trouve blazer, which I pretty much always roll the sleeves on, anyway. Similar price point there.

I do like the other one a wee bit better, but not $300+ better. $150 + 3 moths of waiting better? I don't know. Maybe I should steam this one, roll the sleeves, and look at it in its best form...

If you are going to go for this style I would look for a white tuxedo blazer... Nothing ever looks bad on you so it's really a question of what look you are aiming for here. I love it objectively but what is your goal for it?

I think the blazer looks very nice on you, but I am a little unsure as to whether it's your style. To me, the built-in cuffs and the waist nipping read pretty classic—and from what little I know of your style, it is not classic.

Do you really like it, or do you feel like you're settling? If you feel like you're settling, I might let it go and see what else comes along.

A case of serendipity?

Found this Theory blazer on clearance, even cheaper than other white blazers I'd been considering from lower-priced brands. I had already fallen in love with this newer version at Nordies and planned to try and stalk it down to a reasonable price, but... *cough* for that I may be waiting a very long wait, IYKWIM.

The main differences are: built in cuffs, flap pockets, and the way the cut of the opening comes in at the natural waist and flares a bit wider at the bottom. (Please ignore the need for steaming and my lounge shorts!)

In a perfect world, I do like the newer, more minimal version a hair better. But the pluses to this one are that I have it (who knows if my size will stick around until fall in the other) and I could wear it all spring and summer.

Any wisdom? I'm thinking maybe this is a better buy than holding onto experimental jeans?
