I have trained my hair to stay off my face, glasses or not. I think your stylist is the best person to advise as to the PITA factor of any cut for you, but I would love to see a darker shade of blonde.

Well I am still wearing my angled bob if that helps, it's just getting long ;) I was thinking along the lines of the cut Una posted (a choppy angled bob) but with a long front so you're not fighting with bangs. I love Angie's idea of going a bit darker, too. Can't wait to see what you end up with!

Rabbit, I went to blonde because of the roots. I wouldn't go overall dark. Just take the blonde a little darker, if you know what I mean. Maybe some lowlights.

I love the suggestions so far, especially Anna's to embrace your waves! I love the site http://www.naturallycurly.com for good info, tips, etc. It's information overload in the beginning, though. I started with the book The Curly Girl and moved onto the curly forum from there.

I think you would look great with dark hair Mary K, but I will say that if you have any gray/white underneath (I do on top) the roots show FAST. Having a mix of highlights near the part line helps hide them for longer though.

You've gotten some great suggestions already, so I've nothing new to add there but encouragement. Have fun with it! I'm sure whatever you do will look great. I could also see a little darker working well for you.

I sympathize on the wavy hair dilemma. I'm less inclined to fight mine and blow it out fully these days. I mostly blow dry the bangs and the roots at the top of my head to encourage a little fullness and shape, and let the rest air dry so it ends up wavy. Some days it works better than others, but not much I can do about that!

FWIW, I think you'd look gorgeous with darker hair, Mary. It will bring out your light eyes and pretty pink glow in your skin. Personally, I can't see you fighting lots of hair in your face either - not for your profession nor for your style persona. So some of these do's look "cool" - but they won't work in practice. You also don't wear specs daily - which like for Una - keeps her hair off her face.

I don't see waves either. But I like the idea of choppy shorter layers - like Shiny's hair on this forum.

I think chunky layers would be great on you. I've had chunky layers for a few years and I really love them. They can be very polished for work, then much more funky for going out. They also work well with my wavy hair. On higher humidity days, I have wavier hair. On drier days, I have straighter hair. Oh! And I've started using Perfect Hair Day from Living Proof and it is fantastic for frizz for us not curly, but not straight haired girls.

Here is my suggestion....get some long choppy layers but don't bring the length up. Add some low lights too, I think that would look awesome. But whatever you choose I can't wait to see the pictures. Your hair sounds similar to mine with cow licks and waves....good luck and I hope you love it!

Yes, I'm going to try and work with my curls/waves going forward.

Yes, I'm aware of the supposed dangers of the Brazilian blowouts. I guess I'm just a thrillseeker. ;) My main complaint is they don't last long enough and are wicked expensive. Plus, as Anna says, I think that look is getting a little Over.

Would love to do some hot pink but that's a non-starter given my job.

Oh, and speaking of pink -- Claire, I was red for years but had to give it up because red dye + white hair = pink. And not in a good way!

I agree with Anna that if there is a way to work with the natural texture of your hair going forward, that might be the best. Lot's of great suggestions in this thread.

I think your hair looks great now and I'm channeling my mother here, but I think you mentioned you had Brazilian Blowouts? Just wanted to make sure you were aware of the class action lawsuit and some of the formaldehyde side effects so you can make informed choices. The FDA have been after them for years I think.

Another vote for inverted bob. The picture Una posted is fab. The ones you posted three hours ago are great too. I too have hair that falls somewhere between wavy and curly (depends how humid it is!) and I think the inverted bob is one of the easiest styles for my hair. It has to be a good cut, though -- lots of layers.

One trick I use it it's not behaving is to flatiron only a few pieces near the front, and I let the rest be kinky. Somehow ironing the whole thing is too severe now, on my increasingly angular face. You could try that. Your face is more smoothly rounded than mine, but you never know, it might look good.

Another option if you're bored? Dye some sections hot pink. (Worked for me).

Haha, MK, the pics from my board you posted (2-3) are exactly what I showed my stylist a few months ago.

FWIW I think that is a great option for you. It always works well with my hair texture which seems similar to yours. I find it easier to manage the longer bits in front and on the sides rather than the back so by having the inverted bob life is easier all around, less time styling and easier to let it do it's own thing back there. I'm glad my short haircut board was helpful.

Please post the "after" pics!

MK - First, just wanted to say, I always think your hair looks fantastic - elegantj, polished and flattering. But if you are interested in a change, I was going to suggest the same thing - inverted bob. Of course, that's how I wear my hair but with choppy bangs- it's wedged up in back like Una's pic and then I have my hairdresser follow my jaw line for length. According to Christopher Hopkins (one of those makeover gurus) the diagonal lines lilft the eye and face. Well didn't I just feel uber fab with myself when I read that! I don't think bobs will ever be out, they will just morph in slightly different directions. Look at Louise Brooks - that style still looks awesome to me. Depending on how piecey you make it and if you highlight it, it can be rate or polished (which seems to be more your preferred style). Huge bob fan but I am sure you'll look fantastic whatever you decide to do!! Good luck!!

I love all the hairstyle photos everyone posted. It seems like your face shape is oval which makes finding a hairstyle a lot easier. I would keep the long side swept bangs and length in the front and have your stylist stack the back. This way you can still work with the wave in the back to give you fullness (in the stack portion) and you can straighten the front. You can also keep the length in back in tune with the front or just go shorter in the back (not quite and inverted bob). If I can find a photo I will post one.

I was also going to suggest a stacked bob. I loved the cut I got back in Dec, but can't have it right now due to the state of my growing-out-grey-ness

As an fyi, my hair sounds a lot like yours - enough wave to be a pita, not enough to be cool (I don't think, haven't actually really tried...) I find less than 5 min with a flat iron and I'm good.

I think an inverted bob may be just what the doctor ordered for me, though, because the part that is driving. me. nuts. is the very curly part at the back of my neck. If I took the length way up in back, that would solve my problem, I think. I love AG and JAileen's photos, also No. 5 in Von's post. And these from abc's fab Pinterest board.

And yes, Missey! The Kate looks are fab although her hair seems to be pretty naturally straight. But I love the radical assymetry!!

I'm not a fan of the inverted bob, although I do know people who look awesome with it (just look at the forum!). I think it works best if there's no curl in your hair. If you have some like you say, and like I do, an inverted bob is gonna be one PITA to deal with in the AM.

I was just going to suggest some lighter and maybe some darker streaks up front. The look you have is extremely polished and professional as is, so I was thinking subtle color.

Hi MK

I think we have very similar hair in terms of color, texture and length.

Wow, thanks!

Here's my question: Is an inverted bob still stylish? I had one for quite a while and then got tired of it. Will it look So Early 2010s if I get one again?

Oh I love Von's first pic. I would suggest angled up the back and some choppy layers, like a modified wedge cut.

I agree with lyn67 - an inverted bob would look very modern on you. Here's mine before I went grey (and very short).
