I’m liking that cinder color because it’s unusual and goes with many things you already have.

I’ve got a lavender puffy vest that I layer under wool coats to make them truly winter-worthy. It works with many other colors.

Another nod to the brown. I feel it’s a neutral but exciting and would work well with your style. Also this a most excellent collection of items!

I vote the brown - fab and different on you! - and let's see the Winter accessories that could work well with it.

The brown is reading green undertones to me and I love it. But I really love that vest as I hate wearing coats. I would like all of these in my wardrobe. I’m loving this whole color palette

As fas as winter accessories go... pretty much what you'd imagine based on the rest of my wardrobe: mustard hat in profile pic, lightweight navy gloves, slightly warmer rust gloves, black mittens, burgundy mittens, a red hat, a light grey hat. Scarves are black watch, olive, grey/black, and off-white... For hikes, I usually wear a bright red (or blaze orange, ugh) beanie, navy blue gloves with black mitts if needed, and an eggplant neck gaiter. It's all sort of one big capsule because I just can't bring myself to be matchy. :)

Today I'm leaning toward trying the black simply because I'm shocked that my only black coat right now is the wool one in my profile pic. And because the black would, as Helena points out, work with pretty much anything I might add in the future.

Windchime -- I am rooting for the lavender vest too! But vests are a tricky fit for me so I'm trying not to get my hopes up. My current down vest is over 12 years old because I have yet to find another one that fits as well. I love the idea of a vest with extra length *and* a hood. That's hard to come by!

I’m curious what color(s) you already have in hats, gloves, and scarves that you would be wearing with the new coat. How do those colors play with the brown, as opposed to the black or blue? Or would you be open to a new complement of winter accessories. Just thinking through the larger picture...

Since you will wear this coat so often, go with what you really love. It sounds like that gorgeous vintage lavender vest meets that requirement so here’s encouragement to get that for sure! :)

I'm going to be the outlier and vote black! I think it will look the sleekest, and you can always then add any colour you like in the form of a scarf, hat, etc.

LaPed - I like the light brown too, although as you say this colour can be tricky to photograph. Another colour that I think you wear very well is burgundy like this LLBean coat in Dark Plum:

Another vote for the light brown. I think it’d have a nice tonal effect with your other pieces.

I will vote or light brown as offering more diversity to your coat wardrobe than blue or black and working with most of your existing jeans and leggings.

As you all know, I have a difficult time choosing colours! I like all three of these colours for the Primaloft coat below (top row of Finds), and I'm debating which one would have the greatest utility. Unfortunately, they are out of stock at my local LLBean, so I cannot go try them on in person. At first I thought I was torn between navy and black, but the more I consider it, the more I like the idea of a lighter brown, especially since it has a bit of a sheen to it. But it's hard to know with that colour if it will skew more brown or grey, lighter or darker, IRL.

My main goal in adding some long but lightweight jackets and coats is to expand my "outerwear to go with leggings" options for cool-but-not-cold hikes, dog walks, etc. Current leggings are olive/black, solid black, and dark floral. I'm sure I'd wear it with jeans and such too. Fall/winter footwear is mostly black, plus some chocolate, oxblood, and olive. My other puffers are both navy (one shorter and lightweight, one longer and heavier), so maybe I can narrow it down to black vs taupe? Or perhaps navy puffers work so well I should just add another one to the stable?

(I have a gift card I'm hoping to use, so for the moment I'm not looking at other puffer options, just want to see if this one works first. I'm also ordering the vest from the same line in this awesome "vintage lavender" colour so it may turn out that I keep the vest instead and look elsewhere for a coat at a later date.)
