Size 3 sounds right, Katherine. With the right layers underneath - you should be good in NJ.

I have TNF Thermabole, and personally find the Sosken warmer because of the insulating HIGH neck.

I don't think the collar - which sticks straight up as Smittie comfirms- will fold down that easily - BUT it's worth a try because of how it's folded on the model. The sleeves will be shorter in the smaller size too.

MUST look at Pendleton coats! They are magical.

Hi Katherine -- I believe I started with the 2 and went down to the 0. I was in the store when I tried it on, and was looking at the tags on the back/ I now realize those tags are completely not the same as US sizes!

Unfortunately, the size chart doesn't list the 0.
It lists 2 as a 34" bust. I have a 31" bust, so it makes sense that the 0 works for me.
In short: The size guide is likely accurate.

I would say that the thermoball and the sosken are about equivalent in terms of warmth. The thermoball is a slimmer fit, so less cold air will get up.

I love the look of the Thermoball and have wanted one for a while now. I like the length and the attractive stitching. So it's in my repertoire now, ready for fall!

The sosken cut is great though. I little different, and I just LOVE the high-low length and a-line cut. Very cool.

These are good points, thanks! Smittie, did you match up your regular size to their sizing chart and then go down a size even from that? I always have difficulty figuring out how far to go when there are ranges involved. Should I go as far as their size 2 (8-10) when I am normally a 14?

If I can get the sizing right, I suppose I'll have to think a bit for how much the interesting shape and color are worth to me. I feel like I often end up buying more variety in jackets and coats than I actually end up wearing. I bought the North Face ThermoBall PrimaLoft Hooded Parka coat a couple years ago in the anniversary sale and LOVE the bright red color and how light and flattering the diagonal line quilting design is.

Hi Katherine,
I tried this coat on in the store.
I didn’t find the arms long but the collar, yes. And it sticks straight up.

But I think you could play around with the collar a bit to get it to lie conveniently.

The cuffs can also be rolled back.

One thing is that I had to size down to get a good fit, not up.

The other thing is that this coat is relatively thin and the a-line cut creates a draft from below. I don’t think this is at all thick enough for a New Jersey winter unless you do some serious layering.

But I do think that if you live in NJ, you will need an assortment of coats of different weights and this could be used on those winter days that are not so cold, or in fall days.

I think you'd have to try it on to know fit.

As for weather, I lived in Delaware for a while, and the winters aren't as bad as Chicago or Boston, but they did still get snow and cold, especially wet with the ocean breeze.

I am not sure this will get you through all of winter. Probably fall, though.

Hello! I recently moved cross-country and decided to pass on the purple wool coat I'd been using as a winter coat for the last few years that was beautiful but also very heavy due to being vintage. So I am in the market for a winter coat that isn't too heavy weight-wise, but would still stand up as a daily winter coat in NJ winter. Interesting color and flattering shape are also priorities, as I had a baby last year and am feeling so bored with my limited wardrobe due to breastfeeding.I've ordered pretty much all of the Pendleton coats that are in the sale, haha, and had also picked out the Sosken Quilted A-Line Jacket last week because of the unusual color. I am usually around a US 14 but I ordered the Sosken in the size 4 (16) because I sort of figured European sizes would run small. The 16 looks a little big but I can't tell if that's just because I'm wearing it over summer clothes, so I reordered it in the size 3 (12-14).

I'm wondering if folks have any thoughts on whether this jacket will be warm enough for winter? Not Chicago or Boston winter, but certainly colder than Portland winter. I would feel more confident if the filling were down instead of polyester, but maybe between the quilting and the general roominess, it would work with layers? I am likely not to be walking around outside for long periods of time too much since we're in the suburbs now.

My other question pertains to Angie's recommendation that it's best suited for those with long arms and long necks. I have short arms and a short neck I haven't used my alteration credit so the sleeves looks like they could be hemmed to fit me, but I do see how the thick knit collar band might be easier to manage and fold back with a longer neck. Any thoughts on whether its stiffness and thickness will become too uncomfortable or not look as good for someone with a short neck? When the size 3 arrives, I could take some photos to compare. Also will have to see how I feel about all the Pendleton coats!
