Elly, I think you have great instincts. I like the sleeveless crossover tops as easy care and will be loose enoupph for moving and lifting. How about slim cotton cargo pants, lux track pants ( maybe polyester), banded bottom tops. Do you have a Nordstrom's Rack near you? They have a wide variety of summer polyester tops. Prints will not show dirt and stains as much.

My favourites from the things you posted: ruched midi skirt, silk utility blouse, the sleeveless Pleione, the Uniqlo linen shirt and the Earthies Luma. But I think it all looks lovely!

Hi, Elly!

I love the idea of the tops that Elizabeth linked to. And I'm also super in favour of your getting a VC tube skirt. It will serve you really well. You won't be able to wear it in deep winter, but it will work for presentations and gallery nights in early fall and spring as well as in summer.

Linen would also be fab.

Our neckline preferences are not the same, but Inge just gave me a ton of links to various summer tops and other items. Here are a few that might work on you as well.

It's worth checking out Banana Republic - many have had luck with their summer tops so far this season. I have one of their linen v-neck tee's, and I've machine washed, hung to dry with no shrinking, and wrinkles I can live with :).

Liz! Thank you--- I hadn't thought about that particular top. I already have one short sleeved poly tee, which I like surprisingly well, so I guess I wouldn't be against having more. Sleeveless blouses are probably ok, but not tank tops (except I do need something to wear on the weekends, and would mind tanks there). Linen tees might be a good alternative. I sometimes have a hard time with button down wovens pulling over my chest/shoulders, but like the style fine when it fits well.

Wash and wear is great - and I do have to wash after every wear, which is part of the reason summer tops take a beating. I'm okay with wrinkles so long as it is meant to look that way, like crepey casual cottons and linens.

Can you give us a bit more info what you are looking for? Sleeved, sleeveless? is poly ok? Knits, wovens?

The short sleeved Pleione tops are great for low maintenance, wash and wear well. is something like that on the right track?

There have been a few threads about linen tees this summer. And Suz's current thread has a whole bunch of great tops in it, courtesy of Inge.

Here are some things I've collected, as well as a link to my Pinterest board.

https://www.pinterest.com/ellyelf/capsule/

Warm weather is always my weak season, since I grew up in a part of the state where it was very rare to hit 80 degrees.

Dressing professionally but with durability and ease of cleaning in mind in a VERY casual environment only complicates it, as does a budget.

I guess I'm looking for a little guidance or encouragement.

Ladies!

I've been remiss as a community member . . . it is a long story with an OT thread, but either way I need to apologize.

Before May comes and goes I need to begin figuring out what additions I'd like to make to my wardrobe this summer.

I only added a few pieces last year and then got buy with some new tees under light jackets.

Right now I have the following pieces: see finds below; not pictured are a pair of grey melange nike-flex-style sneakers that are on their second year, a black poly crepe tee/blouse, and blue scoop neck rayon tee with a zipper up the back.

I'm sick of rayon knits because of the fuzzing and piling issues, but also had my inexpensive cottons from last year pill (t-shirts and undies, something I've never had happen before, and cotton flannels) and the lining of my army jacket and my winter "shearling" lined denim jacket. The striped top, the green tee, and the blue tee not pictured are rayon. The navy skirt is also rayon.

The only unworn item is the silk blouse, purchased last fall.

The sanctuary blouse needs to be passed on to someone else because my back has spread doing additional heavy lifting at work that I wasn't doing when I purchased it and now it pulls in certain positions.

The white tencel button down and black poly crossover blouse will NOT work into high summer. The other button downs are too dressy/crisp/high maintenance for everyday at work, but they are an option for presentations, etc.

I'd like to add some non-jean pants/skirts/crops. Shorts are a no-no at work.

I also need to increase shoes and tops. Work is closed-toe and heel only, and I've got two pairs of leather thong sandals for weekends.
