Oh, so glad the snow has me housebound today and I can catch up with my beloved YLF!

Elizabeth, I count the oil cleansing method as the one thing that has made the most difference in my skin. I have oily, large-pored skin that was terribly red for years- I tried everything and it wasn't until I quite using cleansers and sulphates on it that it calmed down. Now it's just sort of ruddy- and I can live with that. I used to use a mixture of jojoba and castor oil with a few drops of ylang-ylang essential oil, but I experimented with just jojoba and that works fine. I massage it in, take it off with a wet washcloth (getting it all) and rinse off. Witch hazel in the morning, night cream at night.

I think Angie has a good point about dry/oily skin needing very different routines. BTW- I can't stand EVOO on my skin or hair- too heavy. But if it works for you, that's what counts. What sort of skin do you have?

It makes more sense that oily skin likes *an* oil cleansing effect - Kendall said this too in her skincare interview. Essential oils in their correct dosages are supposed to work wonders for oily skin.

Elisabeth, I couldn't stand the smell more than anything else. It also was not effective on my skin type - so why bother with olive oil smelling skin? I have dry skin and it needs other types of stuff. It's all so counter intuitive, isn't it?

I have tried masks made of oatmeal, scrubs made of castor sugar, masks made of pumpkin seeds, cleansers made of yoghurt - all awful. Never putting food on my face *in it's raw form" again.

I want to keep this method in mind for when my kids are in need--so simple in principle and pretty easy to apply.

I am a huge advocate of the oil cleansing method. I do this once a day. Started with EVOO and then switched to camellia oil, which is supposed to be better for my pock marks. I have oily, cystic-acne-prone skin, and the oil cleansing helps control both issues without drying my skin.

Olive oil does not clog pores! Something about the oil being bigger than your pores? Sorry I don't remember the specifics...

Anywho, I do the oil cleansing method a few times a week in the cold months. It should be noted that while I have conbination skin, my dry skin is VERY dry and can be excema prone. And I typically just use Jojoba oil but I have used Olive Oil in the past.

I wouldn't be able to use this method everyday bc I dont feel like it would be "enough" for my skin but I do enjoy it on occasion.

Not at all, Angie! There's no wind to knock out of my sails. If I already had an opinion about this, I wouldn't be asking. :-)

If you don't mind me asking, what are the reasons for not putting olive oil on your face? Clearly you feel very strongly about this. Is it dangerous? Does it clog up pores? Does it not take off makeup properly? I've only tried it once, so I can't really comment on its effectiveness.

I can't handle the smell. I tried it a few times and felt like Greek Salad all day.

As for it feeling effective - the first few times were nice, and then it lost it's effect on my skin type :(

Over the years and many, many blog posts later - with a whole slew of very opinionated comments - I have come to the conclusion that you should not be putting stuff that you eat in it's raw form on your face regularly. I've tried just about all that has been suggested and it's been an unpleasant experience.

I am also very opinionated! I feel strongly about this, Elisabeth. I don't mean to knock the wind out of your sails.

This is a beauty, not a style, question. Has anyone tried the oil cleansing method? Any thoughts? I thought I'd give it a whirl, and tried it last night, using a 50/50 mixture of castor oil and extra virgin olive oil. It left my skin feeling really nice and soft, but it sure seems weird to slather my face with something I use to make salads.
