We recently auditioned some voice-over talent at the company I work for and it was so much fun to listen to the different voices and imagine whose would be best for our material. Amazingly, six or seven of us independently picked the same voice as "our" voice. Good luck with the auditions! </p> https://youlookfab.com/welookfab/topic/soprano-in-the-closet#post-1014473 Tue, 27 Aug 2013 04:38:27 +0000 Beth Ann 1014473@https://youlookfab.com/welookfab/ <p>I've been meaning to tidy my closet since MaryK's fabulous closet challenge a few weeks back.&nbsp; It took a career turn to get it done!</p> <p>For the past few months I've been in training to do voice over work.&nbsp; It's now time to "go live" and begin auditioning for jobs in my home studio.&nbsp; But where to set up a sound proof recording booth?</p> <p>My closet.&nbsp; Yup.&nbsp; Did I mention that I live in a 1,000sq ft home with 1 bath and no garage?&nbsp; That both I and DH work from home?&nbsp; That we homeschool our two children (who are growing larger by the day)?</p> <p>According to the real-estate listing, this is a "walk in."&nbsp; Yeah.&nbsp; Like you can close the door after you walk in!&nbsp; I was determined to make it work better for my business venture and my wardrobe so.....I added the shelving units that rest on the shelf above the rod.&nbsp; My lego-master DS (11) assembled them by himself (go Eric).&nbsp; Because I now have more shelf-space, I broke down the plastic bin tower on the lower left floor and opened up about 20 inches of rod space for hanging.&nbsp; Woohoo!&nbsp; (photos 1,2, 3)</p> <p>My mentor has encouraged me to purchase sound absorption blankets to hang from the ceiling all around the closet when I work.&nbsp; I tried to suggest that silk and cashmere, when packed high and dense, would do just as well!&nbsp; You can see an approximation of what the "studio" will look like in photos 4 and 5.&nbsp; I still have to purchase and hang the blankets, which I'll have to put up and take down daily.&nbsp; You see my mic, windscreen and the music stand, draped to muffle sound, that will hold my iPad.&nbsp; Yep.&nbsp; I'll read the scripts and submit the auditions through an app.&nbsp; Unbelievable how much technology is changing the recording industry!</p> <p>Wish me luck!&nbsp; At least I'll be forced to keep the closet tidy now! </p>
