Happy for your new find-consider duplicating such a top in white (or other neutral) couldn't be a true risk, you did so well!

Due to the different fabrication, those tops look different. A great idea to duplicate.

I don't duplicate wildcard items often - but I would say my three Bao Bao bags fall into this category. I think of my Bao Bao's as being signature to my style!

I am most likely to duplicate basics such as these simple knit tanks.

Good call. I love tops that are at that length and don't need tucking. So useful for us shorter waisted people!!

This is a great example of duplication. And the two tops actually don't look so much like dupes, at least in the thumbnails. The fading on the denim version is quite different than the crisp white colorway. I have lots of dupes in my closet - if it works it works!

I was going to say I don’t have any wild card duplicates like this, but realized I have 2 Samantha Sung skirts with the same cut and in very different prints. I bought them when I was having a hard time finding burgundy or warm green and the murky prints are gorgeous. They get equal wear.

Those two Rag and Bone shirts look like a lot of fun---I do enjoy the cinching part.
I am not much of a duplicator at all, but to your point...I notice I really love patterns. Especially a good patterned dress. If I were to do this, I would probably enjoy a great dress in two patterns.

That is indeed a great top . I really like Rag & Bone pieces but they aren’t widely available here - and tend to be very $$$. I duplicated a linen chore jacket from White Stuff UK in black and in moss green and have to hang my head in shame that I haven’t worn either one and they are at least a year old now . I expected it to be such a workhorse that I’d be wearing it all the time , but as you mentioned , I have no need for third pieces in the summer . This was an expensive mistake - but at least it’s a classic design that won’t date .

Beautiful summer top!

My best unexpected duplication this summer was this jumpsuit from Amazon. Originally I was on the fence about jumpsuits, but this one is very easy to get on and off and the material is super soft. As soon as I received the navy I immediately ordered the blue and they've both been strong wardrobe additions.

I bought a red merino wool sweater from Uniqlo in late ‘22 and wore it 20 times in ‘23 alone - 47 wears total so far and it’s in great condition. Decided to duplicate in black last fall and have racked up 21 wears so far. I’m thinking of adding a 3rd - possibly brown or green?

Yes smart move. Just yesterday I was wearing a black sleeveless button down in a cool material and fab cut. I commented how I wish I had multiple colours of the same top. It was thrifted so no possibility. I really like the white one. Is it also denim?

That was excellent duplication! I think the idea of buying an interesting summer top in one's key neutrals is really smart because in summer we need to change our tops quite often and if you have the top in your best neutrals you might be able to wear the bottom. you were hoping to wear even if you are in a bit of a laundry bottleneck. And that top looks fab on you.

Smart duplicating - fun top for summer!
I duplicated ( or triplicated ?..) linen jacket that I wear to work. I own white, yellow and dark green versions already. The green one is a shade too dark for summer - so I've got the light blue/lavender one and surprisingly it's very versatile. It works with my fav blue/white printed tops and graphic tanks - most worn linen jacket as of now .

Well done, Janet! An excellent item to duplicate for all sorts of solid reasons. Great idea, and suits you beautifully!

I’ve done a lot of duplicating over the years, and I find it especially helpful for basics like underwear, socks, bras and tees. Gear like running shoes and hiking pants too. But sometimes I’ll duplicate a less basic, wildcard item I fall in love with quickly, with mixed results. I’ve had a couple of disappointments that way.

However, this summer, after wearing and enjoying a distinctive summer top that really ticked all my summer style wants, I bought a second one of the same top, but in a different color.

The top was this one from Rag & Bone. I got the blue denim version while in Seattle last summer (part of a wonderful Angie meetup shopping and lunch visit!) and it went into heavy warm-weather rotation. The length works so well with the higher waisted lightweight pants and skirts I wear in summer, and the denim dresses down the skirts nicely. The style has a bit of edge to it, and is beyond basic, which helps my warm weather style feel more like me, since our summers are too hot for layering or third pieces.

I looked at the white version on the Nordstrom site at least a dozen times before I finally gave in and ordered it. It’s turned out to be a great choice — the white is a nice lift in my summer wardrobe and a good neutral for me. It has a nice crisp appearance but is still casual and cool. The ties at the hem can be cinched a little or not, depending on how I want to style it.

Just wanted to share a successful duplication story. Have you had any that were surprising?
