Oooh, thanks for replying guys! I was offline all day yesterday, so catching up now!
@KL - I think it is a great idea to look at ballroom dancing shoes - I will have to do more research on where to find those!
@grandfashionista - we should compare wedding craziness notes! Would your MIL be appeased by a white lehngha with a red border? However, the big question is, would you be happy with a white lengha with red border!
@Angie - I have found clothing, I just need to work on the jewelry that is actually tasteful, yet not crazy overwhelming on a five foot tall bride!
@MsMaven - I may borrow some jewelry from my mom. I am considering buying a splurgy pair of pretty, sparkley but not crazy Jimmy Choos - depends on fit and comfort though!

I can't help much in terms of what to wear for your reception, but I have an idea for shoes. Have you checked out ballroom dancing shoes (like professional dancers wear) or shoes at wedding stores? I bought 2 pairs of heels for my wedding (long story) at David's Bridal. Mine were both red, but one was about 2 inches and the other was about 4 inches. And they were very comfortable.

I'm in a similar situation, in so far as I want to wear a SK/lengha for the ceremony, but I am not at all into bling. You'd think the biggest challenge would be finding a non-blingy lengha, but it isn't. The future MIL is insistent that I wear a white dress, which I have never thought as wedding ceremony attire given my background. The colour above all is important to her, because of her fear of what people will think if I don't wear white. It makes me sad that what should be a fun journey has instantly become a battle, where the compromises I have offered have been rejected. I plan on wearing white to something to appease her, but I hope that I don't cave into the idea of white ceremonial garb. If the bride gets one thing, it's a veto on her attire. For shoe recommendations, not sure if this is your taste, but the Fluevog Queen Elizabeth transcendent shoes in black might fit the bill. They are literally the only heels of any height that I can wear without bleeding or nerve pain, and the the hidden platform adds comfort without detracting from the height.

You have PLENTY of time to decide what you will wear in August, which is a good thing. Perhaps you can find something that is middle of the road glitzy, but still to your taste?

I've never been to an Indian wedding, but from what I've seen from posters here, it will indeed be an extravagant affair.

The first thing that pops into my mind is: Do you have friends or family that you could borrow jewelry or shoes from for just the occasion? I've lent both items to my sister when we were both the same size.

Can you buy plainer heels that you could wear again in say a solid gold or satin, and add shoe ornaments?

Just throwing out some ideas--others may have better ones.

(Yesterday my husband came across the Rent-a-Dress website and was quite fascinated by it--eager to tell me about it. Yes, I do buy dresses for an occasion that seldom get worn again. I think you can rent bags--don't know about shoes.)

I am an infrequent poster, preferring to read rather than write! Something I have been musing on, which I really wanted to share and see if others had any similar experiences.

I am getting married in August - a small, yet fat, Indian wedding. Traditional Indian weddings come with tons of drama, and bling galore. I am so not bling-filled dress type, but there are so many expectations from others and also know that as the bride, I'd better look like the bride.

So I did buy some pretty lenghas that have some bling, yet do not look like a bling factory, but I cannot wrap my head around the shoes or the jewelry for the events.

The ceremony itself will involve gold etc, which is covered, but I want something more modern for the reception, but the whole question of my taste vs what the wedding demands are completely stumping me! If I buy something shiny and big, I'd never wear it again. If I buy something me, it may not even show up against the clothes.

Shoes are very important to me, yet again, the dresses call for fancy shoes (sparkly, golden) that I won't wear again. The reception calls for sparkly, 3"-4"heels that are comfortable - even without the sparkly, that is a tall order to fill, so again, stumped. I have some terrible pictures of my fittings for my dresses, so will add those later.

Wonder if anyone else has had the same experience of - this is not me, yet do I have to do it for XYZ occasion.
