Uplifting looks all around, Vicki. A belated happy birthday wish. You have what my mother would have called panache. Such a great collection of outfits that say summer fun, while simultaneously being current and beautiful on you. Bravo!

You are elegance personified!

You look fabulous and polished in each outfit. Love the latest blue jacket ---what a fab color on you!

I also really love the peplum silhouette on you. And I'm a huge fan of peplums!

The blue skirt outfit is so chic. But what I like best is your accessories....the killer bag, gorgeous jewelry and sassy hat! You're simply GORGEOUS in every single click. Radiant and inspiring...

Belated Happy Birthday to you btw. Hope that cake was as yummy as it looks!

Lots of fab looks here.

As for your hair, the contrast between your current color and your gray is small, so it will be easier to grow out. Same with the length.
I went gray, then after a while I had lots of lowlights put in, then let it go gray again. And I still ponder coloring again. I had no advice, long hair, and really bad grow outs both times as a result. I wish I had been on YLF back then so I'd have known how to do it.
And I agree if you change your mind it is easy to go back.

I think you have a young look now. I also think your gray hair is very pretty, and looks good with your coloring, etc. I think you will stunning. However, you may look older.

It can be a lot to wrap your head around to see yourself and be seen with gray hair. It might be more so for me because my hair was a very dark brown, almost black, so it is a big change. Also, because my husband is older than me, people tend to think I am his age, which is hard for me.

I say try it, and see how you feel. I know you will look good.

shevia, thanks for your supportive words, which are always appreciated and I love your wise suggestion that I can try it and go back to color if it doesn't feel right.

skylurker, wow, thank you for your compliments and brilliantly-written questions, which I find excellent in really examining this new hair territory in a deeper way. Haha. That "white" hair was a mistake (my highlights turned into solid color) and I feel like I've been living with a hair color I never really wanted.

chouette22, with your enthusiasm, I feel like I can do anything. Sending hugs to you.

suz, I really loved my travel outfit for those exact reasons you mentioned. As you may know, I've been a fan of your style for years, and now with your change to natural hair color, I'm taking a close look at this for myself. I really like your hair coloring strategy, which made the process somewhat gradual and even getting it to a healthier place. I always appreciate the wisdom you share.

kellygirl, it was so much fun finding this blue jacket and I was on Team Wear with its effortless style.

Angie, your endorsement always makes me shine even more in my clothes. Thank you for your very special words, which I hold close. It's an adventure reading YLF and using what I learn and seeing how others use what they discover here.

Diane, you made my day with your nice comment and, yes, a shared birthday was lots of fun. As for the peplum top, it's so comfortable, it's also becoming a workhorse.

texstyle, YLF gives me so much style, from what Angie shows us and from what I learn on the forum. Your wise words are reassuring; thank you.

Rachylou, ha! Strong is good! The blown-back look was a bit out of character for me and I was playing in the mirror to find a way to photograph my natural roots.

UmmLila, these are outstanding color ideas for the blue blazer. It's funny, because the SA suggested the same thing about pink/coral and I had to get my head around that. The more I think about it, I like the idea of it. Love the blouse you showed above.

RobinF, thank you and the blazer is just as comfortable to wear, because it's lightweight. Thanks for your support on the "going grey" thought.

Aviamariah, HELLO Stateside tee twin! Don't you just love the way it feels? Thanks.

AJ, I always appreciate hearing from you, my friend. You know I still think of you every time I look at my purse and remind myself to zip it up and/or close it! Yes, I need to post more. Glad you liked these.

Wow, I love all of these. That knit blazer is fabulous. I think you could do the gray, it wouldn't be a huge contrast with the lighter hair. But of course that is a tough, very personal question. I struggle with it every time I color my hair :)

That knit blazer is a great find, Vicki. I like your outfits in 1, 5 and 11 the best. I'm glad you posted and belated happy birthday.

As for the jacket, going beyond white you could also do some yellows or pink/coral (but not tan or beige because it would be too preppy.) I have a blazer in a similar color that I bought with a patterned shirt in similar tones (see find) and that's what I most often wear with it.

Vicki, you look sensational! Love the Massimo Dutti jacket on you. And that airplane travel outfit is so very clever. It combines ease, enough warmth, and style. Wow!!

Those pics with the fedora in the blue car are adorable. It looks like such a fun day. And such a clever sandal design.

I loved seeing the photos of you and brother and sister, too! Happy belated birthday.

The decision to transition to grey is such a personal one. And will depend on factors that go way beyond your hair. I think you would look stunning, but transitioning may require some mental and wardrobe adjustments, particularly living in California's vivid yellow light. You may face some resistance from family members, too. I made a joke about going grey after my brother did, but it's true -- it felt easier to open myself to the process once he was "there," so to speak. Your siblings have blonde or blonde-ish hair. So their reactions might be different. Parents, too, vary in their reactions. Some do not want to see their children grey because it makes them feel old!

In the end, though, it is your decision and not theirs. I think the trick to it is a fantastic cut that does not look like an afterthought.

It will be relatively easy to make the transition in your case. I would simply leave the base colour alone (i.e. don't cover the roots) and do as I did -- add some very ashy highlights (or in your case, probably low-lights, to break up the blonde wall). You can either keep doing that for a while, (some people do this for 3 or 4 appointments) or you can do what I did and cut it off after six weeks.

(Clarification -- I did not colour the base or highlight for 8 weeks, then got ashy highlights without base colour and wore those for 6 weeks, then cut very short to get rid of as much dye as possible.)

As Shevia said, it is easy to go back to dye if you want. So if you don't care for the look, you can return to what you had, probably with healthier hair that has had a few months free of dye. :)

I'm dazzled by so much style and sun.
Peplum, pearls, fedora, jewel sandals, pastel bags, pretty prints, blue sky and sky blue. Wow, what's not to love ?

As for your hair, it looks white, so it could be like going from butter blonde to platinum blonde ?
It's hard to help, it's such a personal decision.
Would you say colouring is essential to look well groomed and polished ? Would you say it makes you look youthful and let people know you're still active and alert in the modern world ?
Are you worried by your audience reaction ?

(just throwing out questions here as a starting point for thinking the issue through, not asking you to answer any of it in this post, of course)

Reading recent threads encouraging us to post more reminded me to share more of myself as so many of you generously do. Honestly, I take many selfies, but I don't post them. So, here are some from the past few months. I've PicStitched some so there wouldn't be as many.

#1-3 I wanted to show my new purchase, a Massimo Dutti sky blue cotton blazer, which I love and plan to use a lot this summer, with jeans and as I wore it in early June with my white Banana Republic ones and my Vince Camuto cage heel sandals.

I also paired it with my old Banana Republic cropped windowpane pants, my Lush white blouse from Nordstrom, coral Vince Camuto cage sandals and a coral and silver necklace that was a gift from a friend.

Any suggestions on how I can enjoy this blue blazer in different ways is greatly appreciated. I may try it with the H & M blue print blouse that Janet, Suz and a few others purchased (shown in #3 with the yellow Halogen skirt).

#4-5 The Stateside striped tee Angie mentioned in the above blog post has been worn often and I wore it on the plane for a trip to the Midwest last week. It's so comfortable. Here it is with my Democracy skinnies and an old pair of blue animal-print Aerosole pumps. I added the navy J. Crew schoolboy blazer for in case I was cool on the flight.

#6-8 While this neckline may not be my best, I had a boho moment and saw this pretty Lovestitch cream and aqua print drawstring blouse and had to have it. I've worn it with jeans and this turquoise Ann Taylor skirt. The sandals are Fibi & Clo and I love the curved feature of the sandal as it camouflages my bunions. These were one of my first purchases from YLF.

#9-10 This cream and blue Boden dress is from last year and I added my Banana Republic cream denim jacket and Fibi & Clo sandals with a J. Crew fedora. I wore this to a car show on Father's Day.

#11 I'm twirling in a blue print Loft dress which is a favorite, as it feels so comfortable any summer day.

#11 Marley inspired me with this sleeveless blue J. Crew blouse I'm wearing with white Banana Republic jeans. I also wear it with my grey American Eagle skinnies.

#12-13 Here are three fun photos from my birthday weekend (June 8) that I celebrated with my twin sister (she's eight minutes younger) and my brother (six years younger) treated us to lunch in downtown Los Angeles. It was a great day.

#14 One more photo biking at a B & B, which always give me great joy and a feeling of freedom. I threw on my Vince tee and American Eagle grey jeans. One of these days (maybe next year?!) I'm going to sign up for a nice, gentle bike tour abroad, like VBT or any other tour company that comes highly recommended. If you can recommend one, please let me know!

#15-16 Okay, saving the questionable for last. I, too, have been considering going natural, aka grey, and letting go of my years of color to embrace the real me underneath. Scary? Yes. But, not overly so, since I like saying "yes" to life as it comes.

Today, I played around with pushing my hair back to see the natural growth and I saw a glimpse of my paternal grandmother. Of course, I wouldn't wear my hair like this, as I prefer fringe or bangs on my forehead to frame my long face. I took the photos to show my natural color as best as I could for you. This is trust, sisters.

I deeply admire the YLF ladies who've shown the courage, grace and beauty to do this. I'm looking in their direction and considering taking the same steps.

After several miscommunicated highlighting appointments (where my hair is too solid and yellow) I hope that I can convey that I want highlights that will work with my natural hair color. We'll see what happens. I would appreciate your thoughts on this, if you have any. Do you think I can wear grey well?

Thank you for taking a look at all of this, if you're still here. I hope this wasn't too long of a post for you. I guess that means I should post more regularly. I value everyone here on this site for your kindness and contributions.
