Lisa, I tried both the small and medium in those Garage parachute pants and was surprised to find the small fit. (OK, they didn't fit the way they fit the models, but it felt way more wearable than the mediums, which were very puffy.) I'm sure you are smaller than I am, so it might be worth another look -- although they are still very long... My Zara parachute pants are medium, and not as poofy as the Garage.

I was hoping that when I was in California I might find the brand Janet bought, but no such luck.

Sorry the Collettes didn't work because I imagined them looking so good on you!

Fortunately, as you've said, you're not running around with no pants to wear, and something will crop up that tickles your fancy.

Angie , your styling suggestions are terrific as always , but you have far better options for footwear in the US than we do here . More refined lighter colours just aren’t available . I’m hoping this changes for spring . I don’t own snakeprint boots , or brown ( exception: a pair of pointy toe brown patent which I haven’t worn in years ) for that matter . This is the first year I can honestly say my boot collection is not great . And it’s not for lack of trying . I agree that the front pocket placement is fine - that doesn’t bother me . The pants would indeed be flattering on a slimmer body ;). But thank you , I appreciate your thorough reply !

Lisa, I'm so glad you decided to return the Collette. There are a lot of pants out there...you'll find a perfect pair for you!

FYI, I have the Collette in a summer print. They ran a little big (so they're all over the board.) Bought them in a 28 (my norm) and the 27 was sold out, but I kept them bc they were so cute, albeit not that flattering. Then I ordered the faux leather in a 28 and they were too small and REALLY unflattering on my butt (I shudder thinking about it)

I have The Maeve Collette's in orange pleather and white denim and love them! I find the front pocket placement clever, actually. It's higher on the hips - not on the thighs - and flattering. The back pocket placement is flattering too. I don't worry about the pockets because they are extremely well positioned, to my eye. Clients who have these pants across a range of fabrics feel similarly.

To answer your questions:

I wear simple refined boots. Low heels or flat. High shaft. No skin showing. My usual! I'm not adventurous with shoes. White, cream, taupe, burgundy, red. Bag or something else matches them. Easy! (In warmer months, I'll wear refined sneakers and loafers).

I wear knitwear that is cropped and boxy, or fluid and welted for structure. See FINDS. Nothing too long. Occassionally, I semi-tuck and fully tuck, but usually not!

Give them another try with brown or snakeskin boots - I think you have them! - and a fluid pullover to match.

kkards - love those jeans you've pictured . What are they?

Janet - I have a pair of Sanctuary joggers too (not the cargo style though) and they are a great pant, I agree. There is a pair from Athleta that is calling my name - more tailored and structured, like your Sanctuaries , and probably a longer-lasting style than the voluminous parachute pant.

Both pair are now packed up and ready to return - now to find the opportunity to hit up the mall !

The pants in photo #2 look like oversized scrubs.

The pants in photo #1 are cute, as long as you hold your breath and keep one arm stretched overhead, like the model. Without a photo of her with both arms down and relaxed, and doing something normal like making a sandwich, I can’t really tell.

But I will say this: if it isn’t lighting you up with enthusiasm, move on, because life is short, and you already have cute pants ❤️

I’m, of course, am coveting a pair of cargos and/or parachute pants. But…I’m pretty sure that I’m going to find that most of them make me yearn for my early twenties when it felt I could wear any thing. I was actually looking at these yesterday, but besides the fact that this is a new buy month for me, they are sold out on my size. As others have mentioned, I think, at least for me, there needed to be some level of structure to make them work.
and I think you already know they answer on the ponte pants…next

I think the parachute pant styles are becoming more available at a number of retailers with variations in style and fit, so I’d keep an eye out! I absolutely think that the others I bought (not the Zara pair) by a brand called Cotton Candy LA have a better waist fit and slightly less nylon-y feel than the Zara pants.

I am also loving these Sanctuary cargo joggers. They might be the highly elusive item that I can actually wear year-round. I’ve already worn them a ton since I bought them right before Christmas.

I agree that parachute pants work better on most people when there is some tailoring or “fitted-ness” at the waist/hips. Sorry those didn’t work for you.

And yeah, too much pocket on the Collette pants - I would not like the extra bulk.

I have been wearing the Zara olive parachute pants with cream
leather Nike hi-tops. I think brown boots would work too.

Suz, I keep expecting to find out Anthro store shuttered and closed one day . It’s such a big store that doesn’t have the stock to support it , and it’s never very busy . It doesn’t stock a lot of what we see on the .com site . I love browsing but I’m convinced it can’t last much longer . Or it reduces its square footage .

Well, what you say about those cargos makes me almost glad I waited to long for the Zara ones I had my eye on. They are sold out in any size that would conceivably fit me. I was worried about some of the issues you mention, especially the length.

Onto the Colettes. First of all, I'm just plain jealous of all you Canadians who can actually get Anthro...there is no store in Victoria so I'd have to make a trip to Vancouver. And when I do go there I am usually so crazy busy there is no time for trying on...

However, it sounds as if those Colettes are not your pants! If there are so many aspects bugging you, then -- nope! Onwards. Maybe they will make a version without the front pockets at some point. I would think that quite a lot of people might dislike those pockets.

I am useless about olive because I don't wear it often in part because nothing else I own really works with it. But I do think cream would be great in summer and so would leopard.

Carla - if I thought those Joe Fresh jeans would fit you I’d send them to you . I never wear them - they really are too big , plus they are more of a spring / summer /fall pant ( don’t have boots that work with them ) . Good idea re the wide leg hack but I am now cured of any notion to wear an oversize cargo/ parachute pant . It’s too tricky on someone of my height and body size/type .

I do love the pocket placement on the jeans you wrote about here https://youlookfab.com/welookf.....-new-jeans, and when you can look this great in a cool modern jeans silouhette, I don’t know why you wouldn’t have these on repeat! FWIW, though they sold out, I’ve been stalking them, and you inspired me to the purchase of my similar silouhette Levi’s (without the cool pocket detail.)

Wonder if you could do a parachute hack by using elastics at the ankles of the wide leg Lulu OTF and tucking them up to hide the hack? You already know those pants look great on you!

Between the higher price in Cdn $s, the fit, pocket issues and the trouble with styling them, I’d say nah to the Anthro pants and go get your money back.

Although parachute pants do look pretty cool on anyone who can pull it off, I find this pant style can be rather tricky to get right.

The more I think about this , the more I’m inclined to return . This is the value of laying out all of the pros and cons - why should I settle for pants that aren’t great - especially at this price ? The quality is good , fabric really nice , but I’d be compromising my self confidence .

I’m thinking a pass on the Colette… they sound irritating and the fabric seems stiff in this rendition…

Well, I have Colette in cotton mix summer fabric as you know. I like the pockets but they are not that visible since I don’t tuck in tops. I think sizing depends on the fabric. I’m between two sizes and ordered bigger but had to exchange for smaller. On Saturday in the store I tried print ones in lightweight fabric and the smaller size fis. I like the style, haven’t seen ponte pants there (actually never own ponte pants). I was tempted by the same pants as mine but in different colors. Reminded myself Jenn’s “power of one” and left it behind.
A few years ago I had olive pants and my footwear was black, leopard or white sneakers (wore it with a white shirt and a black blazer).

As for parachute pants - not my thing, will enjoy on others.

Funny you mention sizing , Roberta , because my other Colettes are a 28. They could definitely have done without the front pockets . They don’t bug me but together with the back ones , I agree with you .

I bought and returned these pants(in a really fun print). I just could not get beyond the pockets in the front. They seemed both unuseful and unflattering. I loved the fabric so much, sob. Also, I think the Colette runs small. I did have to size up from my usual 31.

For styling, you'd need a sweater that hit just at the right spot. But olive goes with everything, so you have lots of options.

Well we all know I'm into new silhouettes and trends - at least trying them if they appeal aesthetically. I ordered these parachute pants from Dynamite (see pic below, no finds available for this Cdn retailer) after seeing them on Carol and Janet. I had zero expectations here, because I've never seen them on anyone IRL. These were only $65 , but Dynamite (while targeting a MUCH younger customer than I ) has consistently good quality clothing . I ordered a M, and they were hilariously big and long, and NOT flattering in the least. I think Janet commented on how a more structured waistband made all the difference in this type of pant - these have just a stretch cord drawstring through a gigantic waist. The length is also ridiculous. I could try an XS or S, but I can't see myself wearing these . Next.

My other pant purchase - right after Christmas and I only made myself try them on today ( playing mind games with myself ) is the Maeve Collette in ponte from Anthro. ( finds not working on either Safari or Chrome) I love this style and have it in a soft rusty red cotton blend from 3 or so years ago . Olive is a no-brainer for me and I don't have any olive bottoms other than an old pair of Sanctuary cotton cargo joggers. These are much more olive in colour than the photo would suggest. A couple of things are nagging at me: styling, footwear, fit, and the bizarre pocket placement vis a vis front and back.

1. styling and fit - they are not exactly loose fitting, which is dismaying. I bought a 30, expecting them to be loose and to hang lower on my hips, but nope, snug as a bug around my abdomen which provides a horrific side view. Not tight, just snug (they are stretchy so it's all fine, but I suppose I could size up but might be out of luck since so much time has passed - oops) so no tucking (French or otherwise) or cropped tops will work here. What would I wear them with in terms of a top?

2. footwear - they are longer than I remembered, which is good, and means that boots work well for winter and a sandal or sneaker will be fine for the other 3 seasons. But what colour of boots? Black seems so utterly boring and then limits me to black/black print tops. Cream? Don't own any because I CAN"T FIND ANY!!

3. bizarre pocket placement which is bugging me - the back pockets are lower the the front pockets (both patch style) and this doesn't make sense. From the side it looks odd. Am I fussing over nothing . Do the faux leather ones have this? ( I know a few of you have these)

4. And then there's the price: they are $140 Cdn , which isn't a fortune but it's not exactly cheap either. For those of you in the US, our $ doesn't go as far as yours, so we dont get as much for that kind of money . Do I keep something this $$ that I have so many issues with? LOL.

And then, then , then.....do I even need these? They weren't on any list I've made, I haven't lain awake at night wishing I had olive ponte pants, and don't go out often enough to need more pants.

All helpful thoughts welcome.
