Phew! Long story, but I ended up deciding to send most of my already packed up clothes and shoes to offsite storage rather than paying the movers to box up a bunch of miscellaneous items instead. We can then box the misc stuff ourselves for our onsite unit. This gives bit more time to get boxes and pack misc items away, and we will save hundreds of dollars (!) on the packing.

I am keeping some cold weather items on site. I’m glad I had already looked through my Finds to review my winter stuff - this made it easier for me to quickly decide on what goes and what stays.

In case anyone was dying to know how I’m getting on, there you go!

Thanks Sal and FashIntern. I will be thinking capsules as I pack things away.

What I can keep upstairs consists of a four drawer tall bureau (has a small upper drawer I use for bras and hosiery); my usual half a fairly long closet; and some underbed storage. Our shoe rack by the front door needs to go away, as does the coat rack. The currently used coats can go into the closet, but the shoes are going to be a problem. I will figure it out, though.

Sal, good point about 1-month capsules, especially for the time period coming up. Fall/thanksgiving are distinct from December/holidays is different from January/real winter. As you say, wear the heck out of each!

I think that capsules is a good idea. I would almost think in one month lots and wear the heck out of that month, and then pull out the next. I know there is always the crossover with a pair of jeans or pants that get worn once a week.

Your WIW are great - that floral dress is especially good on you!

FashIntern - alas, I've tried that those bag and they always break on me. Anyway space is not an issue once I clear out the storage unit and send most of it to permanent storage. The clothes and some kitchen items we want to keep on site will fit.

I am more concerned about organizing but really don't have enough time on the timeline we're currently on. They're all going in plastic Sterlite bins organized either generally by season or by item type (shoes). In a few weeks I will need to fish out more colder weather clothes and may be able to more thoughtfully organized then.I will also need to pick which coats stay upstairs, since we've been told to empty our coat rack (it clutters the entryway/kitchen).

I already DO store my out of season clothes in this same basement unit so it's not a huge change for me. I will definitely buy silicone packets though. Soon I will have two big closets and no need to put anything in the basement (though our basement is one of the two finished floors of our duplex).

I'm glad there is so much love for that Boden dress. It really is surprisingly comfy too.

On the vacuum bags--there are also some that you just roll up tightly to squeeze the air out. You can do that with the ones made for a vacuum nozzle too.

Thanks everyone, I will address more stuff you said when I can. Very busy at work today.

I can’t use vacuuming sealed containers because I don’t have a vacuum with a nozzle.

Minaminu, I want my clothes onsite due to the change in seasons, the distance to the storage unit (it’s hard to travel in NYC without a car during covid), and the fact that the storage unit doesn’t come with this apartment. They’d have to put themselves on a waiting list for a storage unit.

I already know I am using gasket sealed plastic bins for most of it. I suspect this will suffice for the length of time involved. Capsules are a good idea, FashionIntern.

Fab outfits! Boden really suits you :)

I wonder, would it not be better to store the clothes in a storage unit? What happens if the possible buyers ask to check the basement?

We are in a 43 square meter apt, so I hear you on how tight things are currently. It must be frustrating trying to plan when you aren't sure if you're moving at the end of fall or in the new year. What would you think of packing clothes in capsules, packing each capsule in something like this https://www.target.com/p/sierr.....A-78260547 and storing them someplace that isn't damp?

What a hassle to not know when you will be able to move - but in the long run well worth it.

Love JAileen's idea of packing in plastic bags inside a bin. I was going to suggest plastic Rubbermaid totes. They are great against water but I'm not sure about plain old humidity.

I’m tempted to say do vacuum storage bags. I stored a lot of bins in my mum’s basement and that was not the greatest success. Admittedly not water tight bins, but my mum’s basement is not damp.

Love the Boden dress on you and the FS shoes with chore jacket are a fab combination. Great all around. No suggestion about bins but to make sure they are all the same and stackable. And keep a list of what is in which if you have the energy. Lessons learned the hard way. I would put lavender satchels or your preferred moth repellent in them too.

You are smart to store items in a waterproof bin and keep photo records of clothing items. We had a few boxes damaged in storage when we left California (one was lost somehow), and it would have been helpful during they claim process if I had done the same.

Ooh, how I've missed you. I love your outfits--especially the first one with the clogs. I LOVE that pairing. The clogs are awesome. Totally fantasy shoe life for me but love seeing them on you!

More love for the Boden dress in #1. I also like all things with print paired with white pieces like your outfit #2 - pretty! The dress from GAP looks like great one for summer time.
Good luck with your preparations for the big move!

Love that first dress on you! No advice from me either, but can't imagine living in a 450 sf flat. Bet you can't wait for your new house!

That Boden dress was made for you, Christina! Put this in your top 10 for the year end review.

No help with the staging of your apartment, but wishing you luck. Real estate in my neck of the woods is booming - a seller’s market.

Looking fab, Christina! I love how you've styled #1 and #2! That dress is very flattering and pretty.

And now the big move......I empathize with the not so fun part of it. But SOOO GREAT once you've settled :)

Staging your flat for resale is tedious, but worth it. Let me know if I can help. I'm sure it will go like hot cakes. Goodluck!

I wouldn't know how to store clothes in damp conditions, sorry. But those outfits are great, as expected from you :). The Boden dress is so lovely I looked into it myself but tbh, that print wouldn't be nearly as fab on me.
