They are limited to late spring to early fall for me, for that reason. In colder months I wear boots and booties mostly. Oxfords may be a suitable substitute for you, Thistle; I could see wearing socks with many oxford styles. It was quite cold. I don't know how I stood it. Funny, back then the only boots I had were snow boots or actual hiking boots. Now I would wear boots or booties. There's no getting through Central New York's lake effect snow in these, but I love them anyways. Socks are too poufy for this shoe style-wise but also size wise I'd be in a whole different size.<br /> I wear Gold Toes in cotton and wool also but with boots or chunkier shoes or shooties. I break rules and wear some loafers with socks but again, they have more substance than the ballet flat.<br /> I think for you these would be summer shoes. I would definitely not like these with socks, I think socks require a sturdier shoe. My office is cold, too, we're on an island on the Atlantic and it's windy!
