Quite actually, I do have a pair of these that I wore last winter with my pumps, I like them quite much - especially compared to the hosiery versions that offer no warmth. I find that they prevent the sticky feet + help on cold days (here, that is around 30-40F though!)

I'm a total sock person--but knee-high only, I don't like leg showing above sock, except for some types of summer casual, when it's way too hot for tall socks but sometimes I need some kind of sock.

I used to collect lots of different patterns--not so wild, but argyles, dots, checks in various neutrals or color combinations that picked up outfit colors. i would really search for the exact shades to match trousers. But, I sort of got away from that being part of my style, at work at least, and I mostly want a quiet sock in black or brown or gray.

I like GoldToe cotton blends or merino--they last a very long time before showing wear-- when I can get them. I just found it easier to do socks as multiples, wash day especially. I would have liked to have almost all of one type so no sock-matching whatsoever, but a) they keep changing the styles offered, so they're different in different years or b) I'm still fickle and want slightly different colors or weights. So I still have a lot of individual types and have 3 small drawers of socks only--very thin almost hose, thin dress, and medium weight (most are that type)--because I'll find that some of my shoes fit better with one or another and I'm fussy.

Mine aren't stylish at all, although I've learned today I need to invest in more warm, quality ones for winter. I do know several people who make a statement with their socks though - don't know how stylish they are, but certainly unique!

I love a sock with flair. My office dress code is pretty tight, so socks are the one place I get to have fun! I wear socks with booties, heeled or flat oxfords, and boots. I also wear fun trouser socks with pumps, but only on certain days.
Because I wear black, white, and grey, my socks are usually jewel colored argyle, stripes, or seasonal. I'm afraid I don't have any pictures of the socks in action.
As far as showing them off, the trouser socks (which are more in the texture realm rather than color) show all the time. The true socks show if my wide leg pants are flapping around or when I cross my legs.

I am not sure I qualify as stylish but I love Hue black pindot knee socks. I must have 20 pr in various states of wear. The sock of choice for the girl who always wears black and has cold feet. I hate socks that fall down and they must be soft. I do wear Hue sock liners with clogs, booties and sneakers but I really hate sweaty feet and sticking to the soles of my shoes. So I know going sockless looks so cool and I love the look but comfort wins out for me!

I wear socks in all my closed shoes but most of the time they don't show. I tend to like to buy my socks for this purpose in fun patterns. Hey, why not, right? I do have some plain black too.

The exceptions are sometimes I wear knee socks that show over the tops of my boots (just the cuff with tall boots, and sometimes scrunched down over my midcalf boots), and occasionally I'll wear ankle socks with my oxfords. With the latter, though, I prefer to see some bare skin above the sock anyway, so it's still not very practical for cold weather.

I do socks all the time, but they almost never show, so they don't count as part of my style. I consider them important but invisible underpinnings, like a good bra.

It sounds like the consensus is that socks are best worn with boots, booties, and oxfords. I'm guessing that most people wear a stocking/sheer with pumps/flats.

We have 2 votes for smartwool, 1 vote for gold toe, and 3 sugar eyes for argyle (I love them too!)

Please keep the sock insight coming...

Like Thistle, I enjoy argyle socks. But, since crew socks aren't at all elegant with skirts.... Most of my socks are therefore chocolate brown to blend with hemlines & shoes. The fun patterns have to be restricted to at home lounging or gear/walking.

I usually wear mine with oxford heels, boots and booties. When I sit down or cross my legs, you can see the socks, and I've come to terms that sometimes people are going to get an eye full of what ever loud sock I've picked for the day. My favorites are argyles and multi-stripes though. When I wear boots with dresses and tights, I do try to coordinate my tall socks with the dress because they will often peek out a little.

No wild or coloured socks here. I wear black trouser socks with my non gear (non runners) - all exactly the same.
For the gym/walking etc, I have black/grey stripe athletic socks.
Since I found the brand that works for me I have stuck with them.

I wear plain and basic socks. Very seldom do you see them anyway. I prefer gold toe socks for winter wear. They come in a variety of colors and thicknesses, and I find them perfect under booties and trousers.

I do have a sugar eye for argyle socks, though. I used to have a pair I just wore around the house on weekends until they got so thin on the bottom it was time to let them go

I wear my Smartwool socks in the winter, fall, and early spring. Like Von I have thinner versions for shoes but have thicker versions for tall boots. When I am wearing socks I'm usually wearing boots, booties or sneakers. I've found that with my dressier shoes socks tend to slide down my foot so I've gone back to wearing sheer stockings.

When it is colder I wear my trouser socks with oxfords, booties, and boots. They are the same color as the boots or shoes-black with black, brown with brown, etc. They don't show except when sitting they will show a little with the roll ups, or straight leg jeans. For wearing when I go to snow, I wear my wool ski socks with my snow boots, snow shoeing, etc. Otherwise I wear regular socks in grey, black, tan, and brown to go with whatever running shoes, sneekers etc., but mostly these are for wearing when doing dog sports (agility, obedience) dog walking, other outdoor exercise. I actually like socks, and fancy socks too, but where I live (in flip flop ville ) they feel out of place. Went to theater last night. It was in high 50's and there were women in flip flops worn with jackets and coats. I wore booties, and did not see anyone else wearing them. Most were in flats. I swear, there are women around here I think don't own anything but flip flops and sandels.

I always buy wild socks, and last year I started buying some smartwool (and REI brand). They are thin enough for the work shoes, and I found that if you buy "Ski socks" they are perfect with tall boots. All of mine are "socks with flair". Argyles, stripes, rainbows, polka dots, glitter, and off season sock colors.

The one pair of black socks I have on now, I don't remember buying and I'm pretty sure they belong to my 8 year old :).

Socks have never worked for me as part of my style. but I can't wait to see what others have to say. Most of my favorite socks are wool and gray (smart wool socks).

I have fallen in love with argyle angora socks but I feel silly wearing specifically to show off. I discussed this on Angie's blog post this morning, I need to wear longer pants and look stubby when I wear pants with legs short enough to show my socks

Can I see some pictures of stylish socks in action?

I pretty much never wear socks except with sneakers or boots. Even with sneakers, I usually just wear them for working out/being active. With boots, they can't be seen. I think I find the look of socks unattractive... but my ankles do get cold in the winter. Please enlighten me!
