lozz- oz words of wisdom - We are such complicated being and if I know that a topper is my jam and looks great on me, and the pencil skirts are my thing I'm not sure why I fight it. Because I see other people and like their look. However, their look is not my look and I need to stay true to my aesthetic.

Chris 987 - indeed it is embracing our true personas

Unfrumped - I'm so glad I'm not the only one. I really could not do Konmarie in one swoop. For me I have to pick what I perceive to be a high joy piece and test it out for the day. Hone in on what makes it high joy and then remove things that don't fit that category. I probably have to do it this way because I'm on team save and not team wear. However I'm loving this challenge I have worn some pieces I have not worn in years and am so excited to wear them again because you really can't beat feeling totally joyful in your clothes.

Christina - yes I look at the calendar figure out what the weather forecast is going to be and choose my outfits from there. I will be honest I had a couple days that I had to get creative about because of the weather.

I've been doing something like this, but more like a running list of things to wear from my summer closet before it's too cold (I have too many summer clothes). I've been hampered a bit by cooler than expected temps and a big bruise on my shin from walking into a fire hydrant - so I'm trying to wear only long skirts or pants to the office. I like your way of doing it was by Sunday you can have a good idea of what kind of outfits you need to that week, and what the weather will be.

OMG I need to do something like this to my closet/wardrobe. I have pieces that I love love love, and I have started wearing them because it's such a waste of money if I don't. However, lately there's been some weight gain, and I've had to add pieces in new sizes and I need to sort through and get rid of the boring dreck that was merely meant to fill a gap. Thank you for the inspiration!

Love your system and I could almost have written that! Not doing a challenge exactly, but for whatever reason, I could not simply do the " Joy" or even " love" test by holding things up to edit my wardrobe, and even doing try- ons I would say, oh, this looks fine" and hang it back up.
But in the past 2 months I've been making myself wear items to work or at least out and applying all sorts of " tests" to help me figure it out and finally it's paying off. I'll have occasional flashes of insight as you describe also, after wearing something I can see really works, then the " not right" items will finally stand out. Also as you seemed to do, I'm doing more of it from the perspective of relaxing about my own style apart from any trends, and letting that " emerge" more by whittling down.

This is so insightful. I too am often swayed by a lovely print even if fit and fabric are not right, and I love your comment about pretending not to love the types of pieces you DO love. I do it too although I have no idea why. Maybe something about wanting to be an imaginary persona rather than embracing ones real persona. Maybe I need to try this challenge myself...

I find this whole process very interesting. As humans we are complex in our thought processes + our behaviours, yet as you point out, 'focusing on only wearing clothes that are high joy only has been a game changer for me. Such a simple concept"

I suspect many of us (I've got my hand up!) can relate to so much of what you say. Saving the things you love for best (like life is a dress rehearsal) or trying other 'looks' yet inherently knowing what looks + feels best for yourself.
I look forward to your further posts :)

I'm really enjoying your posts and I'm glad that you posted the "rules". I tend to save my "good" clothes, too, with the unintended consequence that some pieces began to look/feel stale while never having been worn. So, I can totally appreciate what you are doing. It also sounds like you've gained some valuable insights so far!

This sounds like such a good idea. I would need to do a casual edition, which is hard because dressy brings me the most joy. I'll have to consider how this could work and what I need to spark joy when staying around the house.

First it is my made up challenge to rediscover my wardrobe. Read the link below to find out the back story.

https://youlookfab.com/welookf.....y-wardrobe

I like the idea of konmarie but taking everything out of my wardrobe and putting it onto my bed at one time just isn't going to work for me. So I came up with a personal challenge.
I tend to buy clothes I like save them and not wear them. I am not part of team wear at all. So I decided this needs to change, and came up with my personal challenge.

Each Sunday I pick 5 pieces that bring me high joy and that I have saved from wearing and the challenge is these pieces become the basis of 5 different work outfits.
If it is a Saturday I'm most likely wearing my one of three bottoms, My Good American jean which are so high joy it is ridiculous, or for the summer some lucky denim shorts that I have in a dark wash and light wash that I had tailored to fit me perfectly.
Sundays are a free day

I have been doing this personal challenge for 3 weeks and have learned so much.
A. I really like my wardrobe for the most part - for a while now I have really focused on buying base building pieces and it has paid off in spades.
B. I tend to be suckered in by a pretty pattern and I have learned some of my high joy pieces are for the pattern while the fit is not perfect. So I have to be extremely careful moving forward to make sure I'm not lured in by a beautiful pattern.
C. Going into week 4 I picked my 5 high joy pieces and looked into my closet and without even thinking just purged 5 pieces that were not high joy. I got over the guilt of the money and mistakes I have made.
D. going onto week 4 I am totally ready to repeat some pieces from week 1 - so my repeat tolerance is 3 weeks. This is helpful for me to know.
E. Because I'm picking a piece I tend to want to highlight that piece so I'm am combining clothes in new ways.
F. I love, love, love a great topper, a tunic and a pencil skirt. I just need to accept these three facts and move on. Every so often I like to pretend I don't love these three things and try dress differently but really they are my thing and I feel great in any combination of them.

I look forward to continuing the challenge and learning more and purging more from my closet until I have a closet that is completely high joy.

Focusing on only wearing clothes that are high joy only has been a game changer for me. Such a simple concept.
