How scary! I'm glad it was relatively mild and you got quick treatment. Please do rest up and mend quickly. It sounds like you are doing all the right things.

I lost both parents to heart disease, so it's something I am very aware of. Thank you for sharing the details of how it happened to you. My mom had stomach issues in the week or so leading up to her heart attack, and her symptoms the day of did not sound like classic heart attack symptoms as we are used to hearing them. She suffered from occasional panic attacks, and I know from personal experience now that those can FEEL like what one would imagine a heart attack feels. It makes me a little concerned -- I don't want to run to the ER every time I feel nauseous or ill, but I don't want to brush off symptoms too easily either.

I'm sending hugs and good wishes for a full and speedy return to health! Take care!

So sorry to hear about this! Please do slow down and take care of yourself. Bummer about the diet. There has to be a better way, and I hope you can manage. Like you, my diet is healthy, especially compared to most people; but it's not extremely restricted like what you describe. Cooking and baking from scratch will be a necessity, I imagine. Good luck, and keep us posted on how you're doing. Rest up!

I hope your recovery is speedy and uneventful. My parents both suffered from heart attacks and from my perspective, getting into a good cardiac rehab program (often run by hospitals) can be a positive addition.

I'm so relieved to hear that you are alright, L'Abeille!! And please, no stressing about posting on YLF!!-) Being "lazy", plenty of naps, lovely beach walks (with lots of rest on those benches) and an adjusted work schedule in the future all sounds like a good idea.

Hopefully the dietitian can help you with a more up-to-date plan, but it isn't easy to make those kind of adjustments, is it.

BTW, I recently started to cook a lot of food from scratch without any salt and I bake bread without salt too...apparently shop bought bread is one of the biggest contributors of salt in people's diets...that and cheese.

These things are so demoralizing and can really shake a persons confidence but it's true, you do look young and healthy, maybe you are doing the right things and that's why it was a small one.
I know you'll hear lots of stories like this but my friend's husband, always very health conscious and a runner, had a heart attack, is fine and feels great. He did go through a time of adjustment but it seemed brief since that all happened twenty years ago.

I'm so sorry to hear that and hope you do give yourself some rest. My husband had a "widowmaker" heart attack (with no damage, amazingly) three years ago this month and we've followed most of the recommendations from Dr. Stephen Sinatra's book, Reverse Heart Disease Now. He's from the Cleveland Clinic which has a great reputation for cardiology research and treatment. My husband was fighting genetics but also a very stressful job situation and long commute. Not much you can do about genetics other than modify your other risk factors and take some medication, although he's on the very lowest dose of all the normal heart-attack drugs (Plavix, Lipitor, metoprolol, lisinopril) because the lifestyle changes have been so successful. He takes CoQ10 faithfully, and if you're on any of the heart attack drugs I suggest you do, too, because they are hard on your muscles. We eat a pretty Mediterranean diet, he's dropped 30 pounds, he walks three miles daily, and he switched jobs and left consulting, eliminating stress and the commute. All in all, we look at it as a wakeup call which turned out to be a blessing. Feel free to message me if I can be of any assistance at all.

Fortunately the muscle damage was very small (only showed up with the sensitive blood tests).

Oh my god..I hope you're ok. That's scary!!!

Think of it as your body telling you to slow down. It's time for a break....a REAL one....not just few-days-off kinds. A real Time-Out

Totally unexpected (but isn't it always?) 10 days ago I had a small heart attack! I;m now supposed to "be lazy" for a couple of weeks.

I had thought it would give me more time on the forum, maybe post some WIWs which I rarely get to do, but taking naps and going for 5 minute walks got in the way...

The biggest changes short term are, I get tired very quickly. And my diet! I thought I ate pretty healthy before, but now I am allowed no salt, no sugar, no fat (at least until I see the dietitian. I was sent home with archaic guidelines like 2 egg yolks a week, so I hope my leash will be lengthened some).

Long term I will not be working as hard... I'm sure doing night shifts was a big contributor. For now, I'm enjoying my twice daily beach walks... and I am very glad they recently installed several benches near our house.
