After going through all the options with my doc, we elected to do a laparoscopic hysterectomy of my uterus (left the ovaries in place so I could still go through a somewhat natural menopause). The surgery revealed that there were SEVENTEEN of those suckers in there, the largest the size of an orange. Holy crap, no wonder I had such issues! I’m thankful to this day that I was able to have such relief from the procedure, which was my first real surgery ever. </p> <p>A D&amp;C is straightforward and generally very little recovery time, so you should be fine and feeling relief very soon! If you want to hear a personal detail story, read on. If not, stop now. When I was 56, my periods had become heavy/light, but never ending. Heavy for a few days, then light for a couple weeks, then heavy again, over and over for several months. I was about to have a D&amp;C, and was instructed to stop taking vitamin E the week before, which I took daily (along with other multivitamins and Lysine). Vitamin E can delay clotting, I learned. So I stopped taking it, and within two days, my non ending period stopped, never to start again. So the procedure was canceled.</p> <p><div>That might be helpful information for someone, not implying that it is relevant to you. They just called to tell me they were no signs of cancer and I am so relieved. They did find polyps, so they want to schedule a D &amp; C but it will be outpatient surgery. I’m hoping that will lighten my periods, since they have become so heavy, so I’m looking at it as a good thing. </p>
