I am very late here but had to chime in and commiserate about perimenopause/menopause changes, as well as finding chic, trendy clothes that won't break the bank!

One brand that might work for you is The Frankie Shop--have you checked them out? The do some tailored, oversized shirts, coats, sweaters, etc. in neutrals (camel, tan, white, black) plus some brights. Their stuff is available on TheRealReal too, at reduced cost (a few examples, below, though the selection varies a ton from day to day). The great thing about TRR is they list the chest measurements on everything but knitwear, so you can know with precision if something is going to fit.

ETA: I second (or third!) the recommendations for Uniqlo special collaborations, including the menswear. I wear menswear quite a bit (including blazers, pants, button downs, sweaters), and Uniqlo also provides the measurements of garments so you can evaluate fit quite easily. I think you are fairly tall? So this might be a great option for you to include in the mix.

COS really does need to be tried. I wear everything from a 6 to a 12. Sometimes it can be really hard to figure out, but worth it in the end. I persevere and probably 50% of my wardrobe is COS. The clothes are very well-made and the fabrics lovely.

I agree with Inge on the COS sizing. I’m M in most brands and buy the smallest size in COS oversized clothing. I would buy their size 6 straight cut shirt and size 2 oversized dress. COS clothing must be tried, their sizing is tricky.

I love those denim shorts, Anna, but pricey indeed. I'm holding thumbs that you'll find a fantastic pair of chunky loafers soon, and worthy replacements for your pink leopard work clogs (those sound awesome!-)

Is there a COS store in Seattle? Maybe go check out some of their tops in person. They might not fit, but the L's are sometimes surprisingly roomy, especially on the oversized/boxy items.

Apologies for the very late reply.
I love some of the suggestions. I looked again at the COS stuff and the fun boxy oversized fit tops only go to a L. Looking at their size chart, even if oversized in fit, I still don't think it'll work
Angie, I did order that boho-esque from CoverStoryNYC. Haven't had a chance to try it on. It's a bit grey/ off white.
https://coverstorynyc.com/coll.....variant=13
I do have more than one striped t-shirt. Thinking I need something more substantial
I need to look at other suggestions. I appreciate them all.
Considering these shorts, but a spendy for me right now. As I look at Prada shoes, Ha! I am looking at other chunky loafers.
I also need boring stuff, like new clogs for work. I wear Sanita, but not super happy with their colors and patterns of late. I basically try to find the most obnoxious crazy ones. Current ones are pink leopard

Lots of good recommendations for you already, but I can't help but think that COS trench cape would be outstanding on you! I'll keep an eye out for a good bag with the size you need. The pink is such a great color for you, I hope you can find it. I also love the idea of good chunky loafers for you, and there seems to be a decent selection of them at the moment, at a range of price points.

I sympathize. I am shaking off the far side of menopause right now. Think of it as an alchemical process, and know that you’ll emerge brighter and better. There is an upside to the down.

Can’t add much to Inge’s amazing inspiration upthread, but I will say that now is the best time to be shopping the men’s department. If you are struggling with fit in womenswear as I often do, you will find better quality and some pretty interesting styling in larger sizes for the boys. Premium collections at Uniqlo have been particularly good for this. Especially the Marni collaboration.

I love the Prada Loafer for you.
Ive been looking at stripes lately. Im also running hot these days, so the cozy wool I cant wear either.

What kind of bag are you looking for? leather or fabric? color?
These are some finds on my radar lately. I have the Nic & Zoe sweater & it has stripes, but different. and soft cotton.

Im looking for cargo pants too...utility-med weight. Ive seen some at LL bean and Duluth, that look kind of utility-cool, also in larger sizes. Have not tried any yet

Well I love those loafers, but also love the low Prada slingbacks I see everywhere. My other designer shoe eye candy right now is Toteme. When in doubt shoes always give me the most joy per buck. I am past peri and well past menopause too. It is a roller coaster, but really most of life is, isn't it?

I sympathise, having gone through menopause myself recently and currently don't fit into all my clothing from 2 years ago. I am treating myself as a work in progress and taking a bit more time to style what I am wearing. Fun accessories are how I am injecting some personality into what I am wearing.

Anna, you are a super stylish and beautiful woman at any size, don't let this get you down. I love the items Inge has selected, especially the cropped trench coat and the on-trend shoes and bag you have posted will make anything feel current. I'm swooning over that MJ pink tote and can see you rocking it.

Uniqlo U is intentionally oversized and if you are tall enough you may want to look at both the women's and men's Uniqlo U collections. My friend is 5 foot 9 and wears her Uniqlo U clothing to great effect.

I like the idea of a cropped boxy button up (camp shirt?) and new shorts.

Over our summer there were so many dress options in all lengths, mostly oversized, but some with closer fits. I fell in love with the colour of this one and am determined to wear it in Autumn with a blazer or jacket. Or a layer underneath! I could see you in something similar, or something architectural too.

If your feet are still going strong anc not the total boss of you ( like mine are of me), I would definitely emphasize footwear, especially when you find a combo that is practical AND fun/ trending/ your aesthetic. Like the lugse loafers or really special sneakers and such. Because then you will wear them a lot and can allow budget for them.

Pants are HARD but a little easier to allow them to function in some kinds of below- the- radar , basic way if can find some basic silhouettes -which might be in any retailer and might be upscale joggers or cargos or commuter workwear like Athleta carries or wide legs—all I can suggest is try on a lot of things, leaving no stone unturned! Then the shoes carry the day.

Anna, I love chunky loafers for you. I have got a ton of wear (indoors) from mine all winter and plan to take them outside soon. I also think you need some shorts. Casual, dressy, whatever. You look fantastic in shorts, full stop.

I also like Angie's suggestion of a more cropped button front for you. Everlane has boxy shirts -- to XL but these are quite oversized and I think they would probably fit in that size -- you can get garment measurements if you toggle.

COS might be worth a try too? The largest size in trousers is usually just a bit too small for me, but their knitwear, blouses, tops and dresses often do fit well (sometimes even a bit too big in the oversized items). And their knitwear, tees, shirts etc. are good quality.

The others must have sold out. I’m on my phone, I’ll try to find pics later. One is light wash high waisted cross over at the waistband. The other a more medium wash baggy/ wide leg carpenter style

Anna, you MUST get chunky loafers. Love these for you! Look VERY ANNA! They will be versatile :)

I can see you in slingbacks too. Fun addition!

Remind me of the jeans you got….

Try Talbots and Landsend for that striped top. Gap too. Let’s throw in some fun boho-lite blouses and cute shorts too.

oooh!! Cropped button-through shirt would look sooooo cute on you!

Cover Story has that lovely white blouse!

The light color, lightweight jacket is a real challenge for me too. I bought a Kuhl jacket at REI (in an XL), but I'm hanging on to the receipt as I am not convinced it is the one. Another possibility is the Athleta triumph jacket. About the same price, but do I love that latte color?

I own a striped cotton sweater and it is VERY useful. Cute on its own or under a vest/jacket, and goes with everything.

You might look at men's t-shirts. I bought several at Banana Republic last year and love them. They're a bit longer and I think they are better quality than women's tees. Lots of colors and graphic prints if that's your thing. https://bananarepublic.gap.com.....p,20613058

The pandemic is I guess now endemic. I’ve been wearing like many athleisure the last few years. Lots of sweatpants, joggers, sweatshirts, and sneakers. And I’m tired of it.
I do like the jeans I got from American Eagle, and despite what I said above I really like the cargo joggers. Cue, but they’re jeans, the different!
And also in perimenopause, yay extra fun. One of my symptoms is running a lot warmer. I’m not wearing my nice sweaters as much
Things I would like, I think. A cotton striped sweater, black or navy on white or cream, oversized. Long size nice t-shirts or casual blouses. A light color light weight jacket.
I’m currently a size 18 ish, so pickings are slim out there
Shoes? There’s always shoes. Do I still look for something like the Prada monolith loafer (seen in Wednesday)? A different color of birkstenstock Boston mule (I have black)? Or something daintier like the slingbacks Angie recently posted
Also I want a larger cross body bag. One that can hold a large notebook, paperwork etc
I do need to be aware of cost & budget
There were some other thoughts, ideas, but at this point something is better than nothing
Anyone else having similar or adjacent issues
