We deployed all the time almost like tag teaming.</p> <p>We were married at 19 and survived until almost 29. We had to make the same painful decisions to leave the beloved Army. It was to much. But the transition was even worse. My ex did not want to go to college even though he said he did. We were living in his old bedroom with his family depressing for a grown woman who led troops. I had secured a position with the local Texas phone company. Life for me was so sad. I left everything I'd ever known and reaped what kept us together were the honeymoon phases of our marriage. The traumatic leaving and the romantic reuniting. Oh young love. Anyway I appreciate you sharing more than you will ever know. Being in the military isn't just a career...it's a way of life only those in the army understand...and it changes you in many ways. </p> <p>My husband loved the army too. He believed he was born to be a soldier. And he was a very promising young officer. He served for 6 years. </p> <p>He was really committed to the army. No fear. But love changes it all. When we fell in love, i had to steel myself to the idea that I was marrying an infantry man. Right in front for combat. I was worried and anxious all the time. And so was he...he suddenly had something to lose. </p> <p>We came to a mutual decision that we wanted to spend our lives together. Here in India, infantry regiments have alternate peace &amp; field postings: In peace stations, your family lives with you. But in Field stations (India has difficult terrain and active fields with plenty of terrorism on all sides) you can't take your family along. So I would have 2 years with him, and then 3 years living away...then repeat...all our lives. </p> <p>That made the choice for us. In my book, u don't get married to live away from each other. He made the tough choice and retired early. He went back to school while I worked and carved a new career for himself. I'm thankful everyday that it all worked out for the best. We're very happy now...no regrets. But he still refuses to part with a trunk of his uniforms and army-time medals, gear and other stuff. Even jackets or berets. Wow lucky your husband has you. I knew the tuck well . I had a hard time letting that go. I still do even my hair is regimental. I cannot let it grow wild and free it has to be a perfectly precision cut. Now I take pictures all the time because I love who I am now. I saw this happen to my husband after he quit the army. He was so used to living in his fatigues and uniform, he would tuck in every single shirt into his jeans! Even tshirts! I don't know how the army does it, but it makes soldiers think that a full tuck that shows zero creases is the only way to wear clothes!! </p> <p>It took him time to learn that there is a world beyond the tuck! Of course I helped him along ;P He's tall but naturally lean, so I started to 'gift' him shirts that could fit his shoulders for a tailored look but were too short to tuck in </p> <p>His style has come a long way. He looks casual and relaxed now...you can't make out he's ex-army from miles away anymore </p> <p>Just a few fun photos of that style evolution. He's veryyy camera shy, so I don't have too many. These are probably all the photos I have of him!
