I only wish I had found it before I lost both of my parents so I could hear some stories. Dad passed away when I was only 25, and he almost never talked about his time in the service. I know he was very young (quit high school to go to WWII) and it had a very profound impact on him. But I bet he would get a good laugh out of me wearing his jacket as a fashion statement. That is my olive Belstaff motorcycle jacket. Love that thing. I had wanted a Belstaff ever since my husband got one (that he wears for real for motorcycle riding). When I found that one, which fit well and was on an incredible sale, I pounced. It's been a couple of years and I only seem to wear it a few times a season, but it's the kind of thing that doesn't date terribly, so I'm keeping it forever. It's going to get some love soon as part of my jacket project, but it's a bit more challenging to style. It's a snug fit and looks great closed up and belted, so it looks good in the context of an outfit, but it's a little stiff to put a coat over it. I'm going to work with it though. At least I think it was dad's! And not my mom's boyfriend before dad, who was also in the Navy (dad was in WWII and Korea). </p> <p>It's definitely worn -- pilling, shoulders that have torn and been mended, even a cigarette burn on the back. But I guess that gives it the story and the authenticity, right? </p> <p>So should I wear it? I just threw it on over the top and jeans I'm wearing today, so not really styled. No makeup yet, as I have not yet left the house, so don't look at my face. </p> <p></p> <p>ETA: It actually looks better on me than I expected it to!</p>
